really happy you mention how the community is actually really nice and discussions are more often than not in good faith, a veeery hard thing to achieve in youtube when talking about literal religious studies. i think its got a lot to do with how high quality the content is in the first place, i think it naturally attracts open minded people that care about well sourced material presented with the same love & respect they themselves have for the topics. anyways thank you for your vids like always filip! and happy holidays.

Came for the Neoplatonism, stayed for the great content. I had seen your videos around and I figured you were an atheist-esque content creator (I kept seeing videos like "The Gospel of Thomas" and others like that), but you make really good videos.

Thank you Filip . I really enjoyed the videos on sufism - particularly the sufis of north africa and andalucia . Although i am very broadly an Advaitin ( who is devoted to Sri Ramana Maharshi) some of the sufis seem to expound ideas very similar to advaita vedanta . I know you cant get too political on here but i am confused between the contradiction between the beauty say of Rumi's poetry and the horrific treatment of say of the Yazidi people. I have seen on KZhead people justifying the treatment of the yazidis as being in accordance with islamic principles.??? What is the Truth here . ✌️

I think the main reason for the comment section not being a "battle field" is due to the fact that most of us are interested in the study of Religion as a phenomena. One of my minors from my first degree is Religious Studies (East Asian Buddhism/Chinese Religions) and I can tell that you take the same sort of 'objective' approach to the discussion of Religion as any Religious Studies scholar would do, or at least 'try' to do in their work.

When you said "came out well," it was funny, I thought it was an English mistake. I don't think I've ever heard you make an English mistake; you're incredibly fluent of course, but I noticed that and was surprised. I taught English as a foreign language for years, so I notice these things. However, I was going to write about how "came out" is a usually a linking verb that uses adjectives, not adverbs, so you should say "come out good," but suddenly I got the urge to google "came out well," and found a million idiots saying that it's the correct way! I say they are idiots, because both are potentially correct, using "well" verses using "good" just changes the emphasis from the feeling of how the process went to the feeling of what the result was. As I was going to say, "come out" can be a linking verb, as in "I tried making a purple dye, but it in the end it came out blue." No one would ever say "*it came out bluely." For me, as a native speaker of American English, "came out good," would have sounded slightly more natural in the context where you used "came out well." However, what I was surprised to find is that the latter, "came out well," is seemingly considered more standard by many, to the point where some people think that "came out good," is UNGRAMMATICAL! Those are the idiots, with a very, very narrow prescriptivist view of "grammar." I'm a scholar of linguistics, so I know that "grammar" is not the bullshit taught in gradeschool, but the dynamic underpinnings of how a language can be structured and restructured to create discernable meaning, and it's obvious to anyone who looks at the linguistics evidence of English that the grammatical structure of "come out good" more closely correlates to its intended meaning of "the end result is good," so it makes sense that it would evolve in that direction. Some people don't even know what a linking verb is, and say shit like "I'm good" is not grammatical. So F%&ing stupid. Anyway, it's perfectly normal that you as a non-native speaker would have learned the "correct" (ie older but still considered standard) way, even though it sounded slightly off to my native speaking ears. These are some of the difficulties and controversies of learning and teaching English. Any language is a moving target, and there's always a tension between teaching a standard register vs the way people actually talk, and textbooks and educators are often behind, sometimes dismally behind. Hope you found that interesting. Personally, I do suggest "came out good," but then if you use that, maybe a bunch of ignoramuses that were taught only outdated textbook English might criticize you, so your really can't ever win.
You should definitely consider traveling to some Eastern countries. I would really like to see more videos on Eastern Religions. I know it’s not your forte but still…
