1995, the ps1 was already out by then. Although it's still good looking for a SNES game
Spiderman 2 was the game changer. Still, Web of shadows remains the one I enjoyed the most (swing, air fights,...), amazing game !

Hot take: web of shadows is still my favorite web swinging. It nailed momentum and really made you feel like you were super high in the air. The buildings all felt way taller than in the PS4 game, which was also fun and nailed the flow of swinging and parkour
I feel ya, I played web of shadows recently but the only problem I have with it is the fact that the camera can just glitch tf out sometimes, especially when wallrunning

Nice that people talk about this game. I used to play Web of Shadows ALL THE TIME. I love the fact that you swing really really fast, you can get to your destination quicker. And the combat... It was beautiful

The first time swinging on Spider Man 2 was insane. It still holds up as one of the greatest examples of controlling in video game history.
Yup, the PS4 game was made with the intention of recapturing that feeling of playing Spider-Man 2 for the first time.

@@VegetaLF7 If that was indeed the intention, then the PS4 game failed in that regard. While obviously far more flashy and visually pleasing, the PS4 game's swinging isn't nearly as physics-based and skill-based as Spider-Man 2's swinging and therefore not nearly as satisfying.

Web of shadows is so underrated that web swinging is so good and one of the only Spider-Man games that allow you to fight basic enemies on the side of a building
I wouldn't say it's underrated but I agree with your points, It is a Great Game.
The game feels clunky and like a downgrade of Spiderman 3, downloaded it and uninstalled after maybe 15/20 minutes of playing.

Man I'm getting old. I remember spiderman from the 80s as a little boy. And played through Spiderman (2000) multiple times. Wasn't just a great spidey game, was an amazing game on its own for its time.

If Spider-Man 2 had this new gens mechanics it would be undisputed number one hands down to me that was the best Spider-Man game ever, it was original and gave you the feeling of the movie with video game enhancements.

If you want realism, you go for Spider-Man 2 (PS2/GC/Xbox). But in my opinion, Web of Shadows (PC/PS3/X360/Wii) has the most fun web swinging mechanics. Spider-Man 3 (PC/PS3/X360) has a great Web-Zip because of how fast it goes. Ultimate Spider-Man is also worth mentioning. This is considering you have the necessary upgrades to speed up, not necessarily to the max.
Not gonna mention the new games at all? I grew up on some of the old ones but Spider-Man ps4 should at least be worth mentioning considering it has some of the best swinging animations while still being pretty fun

In my opinion I didn’t really like the web swinging in spiderman 2, the camera was so far from him that it made him very hard to see, it also seemed like he kind of camouflaged in the sky.
Yeah but trust me.. trying to master it is a lot of fun! (I own it and play it to this date). It’s so responsive!! I also own the PS4 one but I find more satisfying the one of the ps2.. the first 10 hours are better in the PS4 one but after a while it gets boring you know.. the same doesn’t go for the ps2 which the longest it gets played, the cooler it gets

Web of shadows combat was on another level, it had so much potential to be a good spiderman game. But I still remember buying it two days after it launched and the amount of bug and lag in that game was annoying as hell. Ultimate spiderman deserve a remake.

Looking at it now, the web swinging really hasn’t changed. They’ve only added tricks over the years and most importantly made it smoother which is why ps4-5 is the best.
That's actually incorrect. With spiderman 2 the swinging is more skill based with a heavy focus on physics to use your moment to become faster which makes swinging more difficult but satisfying. The new ps4 game and miles morales have smooth swinging but in the form of a safety net that ensures smooth sailing and thus prevents you from doing crazy tricks. Its a bit more complicated than that but there is no best swinging set per say

Just started playing Spider-Man remastered for the first time ever on steam deck… my last spider man was ultimate!! And dam how spoiled are we to play such amazing games in this day of technology!! Always loved spider man! Played since the ps1 version. But took a 7 year hiatus until now and the difference is AMAZING! No pun intended!

Yeah it was genuinely better! Insomniac’s one is kinda a hybrid.. a little cinematic and a little like Spider-Man 2 on the ps2.. the amazing Spider-Man has that cinematic vibe that hits harder 🔥
