Hollywood Screenwriter Tries to Write a Scene in 7 Minutes | Vanity Fair

2019 ж. 29 Сәу.

We challenged screenwriter Emily Carmichael to write a scene on camera--in seven minutes. Emily talks through her process and takes us into the mind of a screenwriter. She had only seven minutes to write the first draft, five minutes to write the second draft, and three minutes to write the third draft--see what she ended up with.

  • Thanks for the love for this video! A few things: 1) Emily used Final Draft 11. 2) Many people have asked us about the length of the video - the clock was paused every time we asked Emily to explain what she was doing. 3) What movie genre should we do next?

    • Hi Vanity Fair! You are always on top of the game with your content. For a next genre, could you do a drama or coming of age? I would like to see how they think of such poignant lines of dialogue grounded in reality as opposed to this video, which was mostly centered on world-building and action.

  • One thing I noticed is that Emily seems to have a very good relationship with her inner critic. The critic is certainly there, and it is helping her make quick edits and revisions, but she can just as easily stow it away and just try something without being overly fearful of writing something "wrong". I wish to learn this skill.

Next video you have the casting directors do a one day audition sequence to get the characters, and show us quickly what goes through their heads, and why they do the choices they do to get the actors they want. Next a director takes the script, and story boards it, or whatever they do before shooting. And then they try to use time constraints to put together this scene in one afternoon! Then editors take the scene and finalize it! It would be amazing!
