    • I just started watching these videos yesterday. We have a 1.5 year old GSD/Australian Shepherd mix, who we rescued in March. We took her to Obedience part 1, and she did great. But we didn't keep enforcing what she learned. So her Aussie side came out, and at times, she tried to tell us what to do. We enrolled her in Agility for fun, and she's not solid on recall, on sit/stay, on attention. But after seeing some of your videos here, I began applying the techniques. We are not nearly perfect, but as they say, practice makes perfect. Well, I know she can't be 100% perfect. I need her to get tighter on behavior. And that's really up to me. Dog training is mostly about training the owner; the dog follows your lead. Thank you so far!!

    • I used to feed my field lab that way, but noticed that when she's made to wait for her food she then eats it as quickly as possible and I worry it's too fast even with a slow feeder bowl. She doesn't do that when I just give her the food. Is there a way to address that?

  • I train rescues too and i love this channel. He is really clear and honest. Now, for some dogs, especially rescues, training and reconditioning are not easy and take a long time. The keys to success, for any dog, are patience and consistency. You have to be consistent. It is hard, but you can't get lazy. And have fun with your dog like he says. They love play and it is so good for their mental health. You want a confident, secure and loving dog that trusts you and knows he or she can absolutely count on you for guidance. You don't just want a dog that obeys orders. My rescued Catahoula is super smart and can learn any command or trick, but getting him to look to me every time and listen to me when he is in a stressful or unknown situation is still a work in progress after 2+ years. He had a rough life before me. Because of his past, i cannot force him to do anything unless he has a muzzle on and it isnt nice for anyone to force your dog. Instead, he trusts me now to know that when i ask him to do something, there is a reason and that im keeping him safe. If your dog doesn't feel safe, he will deal with in his own way. Some dogs may cower and hide, but my Catahoula learned to fight back when afraid. It is hard to remake that mindset. Dogs are smart, but they cannot reason like us and their survival instincts are strong. And every dog, big or small, has teeth and knows how to use them. So try to think like a dog, not a human being. A dog is like a 3-year old toodler and needs consistent, patient, loving guidance. A confident, secure, well-behaved dog isn't sad. He is supremely happy. Spoiled and bratty dogs are just as unhappy as spoiled and bratty kids. Dogs crave structure and as the human being in the relationship, it is your responsibility to provide that. Thanks again for this great channel. Every day, every walk, every time you are with your dog is a learning opportunity for both of you.

  • I freaking love this guy’s videos. Amazing trainer. I have a near 2 year old goldendoodle. My first dog. I’ve been slack with his training. He understands most commands just listens only like 50% of the time. I’m going to start being strict with him to try correct his issues and this guys videos are what i watch to do it. I remember when my pup was only 6 months, he was already pretty big and pulled like a train. I walked him on a harness. Watched Fenrir loose lead vids and switched him to a slip lead and within literally 10 minutes he was walking on a loose lead. Couldn’t believe it.

  • Wow Will what a breath of fresh air you are. I have just discovered your channel and already you have made the issues I have with my Border Terrier seem so hopeful to fix. You are so clear, concise and talk common sense with lots of warmth and love thrown into the mix. Perfect combination which I can apply to my Reactive/Fear Aggressive dog towards other dogs. A vicious circle that he can’t be let off to play freely with other dogs for fear that he will start a fight. He’s 2.5yrs old now and this bad behaviour started a year ago as he was growing into adolescence. I too have spent a fortune on trainers and learned some hints and tips along the way, and yes he’s a bit better but still not yet anywhere near where he needs to be so as he can be free, chilled and relaxed. Your videos are so inspiring as I too want so badly my Border Terrier to life his best life without all his aggressive triggers.

The loose lead has made her happier, better behaved and has contributed to her off lead training, a very chilled out little girl, not a sentence you would connect with jack russells😅

  • I’ve been training my dog to “wait” before coming out of the crate. She’s been doing well with that exercise. I haven’t started “stay” and “come” yet. This phase in her training makes me wonder if there’s a use for delineating btwn “wait” and “stay”. They’re probably usually synonymous, but are there circumstances where it’s not and training a difference btwn the words makes sense?… The word “wait” already has weight to it for her…

  • I have a 3 months female Blue Nose Pitbull . Started to watch your videos from beggining. Simply because all I was getting was how to make PitBulls busty and all pumped up! From day 1 i start to make her engage with me, by rewarding her as soon as She looked INTO my eyes. She already walks with me on a loose leash, she looks up to me looking for guidance. She knows that She must sit and calma down before eating ir whatever She wants. The big deal starts here. I found out by accident that, She loves to Run. This One day I started moving my bike and She just started running by my side defenetly wainting more. So every sunny day she runs with me a few kilometers. She gets tired and its so much easy to train her to new things. Problem is, i live in NL and the weather is bad. She just dont even want to walk on rain or wind. How can I take away her fear of Rain and strong winds ? Also She needs more confidence. Every person She sees, She Lays down showing all her vital organs. Submission to every single person and animal. I live in country side Shes used to horses, lamas, cows and all types of animal. She's doing great because of your teaching ♥️

  • All right, this is great as long as you’re consistently giving them things they want or find value in it when you start becoming the fun police and taking or keeping things they want from them then it becomes the fine art of indulging them versus telling them know they can’t have everything they want in life, which is where they might start Working around your artificial constraints this to a degree is the intelligence of the dog kicking in to work around challenges, which they may find rewarding and enriching, if that is all they have to do so just be careful if they start plotting against you if you are being stingy with the payouts

  • I really appreciate your training videos. I adopted a truly beautiful, but aggressive and precocious Chocolate Lab/Plott/Treeing Walker mix and have discovered Olivia Mae to be the most difficult dog I’ve ever tried to train. I understand I’m the one who needs to be the leader, but she doesn’t recognize the “leave it” command, and here in Texas with rattlesnakes, etc this could end in terrible consequences. Any other tips. Thanks

    • Hi. My thoughts No1 - get rid of the OM is the most difficult dog etc etc thoughts. It sets boundries in your head. Start a training session with this thought and you may as well stay in bed. Change the wording, she's still a novice, or I need to be more clear so she understands. NO2. The leave it is covered in the video maybe OM needs you to start small or more basic. Here in Australia we seem to have more advertising than tv program, so in the ads we train. Tiny steps. As you adopted her you may not know OM association with Leave it, maybe you can start again from the very start using a different command like "dinosaur" something that you can safely assume that her previous life didn't have any negative connotations No3 a decade ago I was in the very same situation, with a black lab rescue. It took months for him to really trust me because of the damaging awful way he'd been treated prior to being adopted by me. I got very disheartened and a trainer told me to, "stop whinging and remember that dog training is a never ending process," comparison of OM to your other dogs is preventing you from coming to the training session with a clean slate and recognising the small gains that she makes. While a little rude what my trainer was trying to teach me is to be more flexible in my own training session. What worked with one dog may not, immediately be a clear win with another. It's midnight here now and I suggest that tomorrow morning, you aim to approach OM with the idea that you can build a strong loving relationship with her, and she will understand, eventually. Break everything down to tiny tiny steps, and practice, practice, practice. No4 my trainer also suggested that I either insist that the dog EARN every nugget of kibble, (which I could do working from home) or at feeding time, I prepare the food for the dog, put it on the floor only once I've sat on the floor. I used to sit with the bowl inbetween my outstretched legs. By this stage the dog will be interested but don't allow her near until YOU decide to walk away. I usually made myself a coffee, and leisurely drank it with a couple of biscuits. Don't talk to OM or have eye contact with her, except when you're telling her to "dinosaur" ... and then you need quiet firm authority, repeatedly, with every expectation of being obeyed, and then go back to your coffee and ignoring her again. When you have finished your coffee, quietly get up, break the command and walk away, if you can, out of the room. I know, sounds odd but I promise it works. Try it twice a day every day for a week and, you should see a difference. I've told this to others with indifferent dogs, all rescues, all with good results. I think the idea is to mimic what the alpha does with the kill. But whatever, it works. It will reinforce this if you are aloof with her during this period, very little eye contact, and only playing on your terms. Anyway hope that the essay helps a little. Try to keep at it. Good luck.

I've watched some of your vids already so will be practising my lead walking today. My question is I use a harness not a collar which means I have so much less control. I'm worried about using a collar as he's little. Please advise. I want to be able to walk him by my side when out with my husband or grandchildren. My previous dogs were mastiffs and sheperds and I used a halti and they were great. I'm unsure with such a small dog..possibly overthinking this. Your advise would be really appreciated. Thank you. • I wish i knew of this channel when my "problem dog" was alive. He was a rescue who was used as a bait dog as a puppy. He was at a shelter and facing euthanasia so my husband and I adopted him. We thought we were doing all of the right things by him then one day he just snapped and became reactive to people he didn't know and especially animals. He attacked and almost k!ll3d my parent's neighbors dog (got through a hole in the fence). We couldn't afford the thousands of dollars worth of training we were being told he needed and were honestly terrified to even send him off b/c I didn't want him to attack anyone and be euthanized. We had him for 8 years. Otherwise, he was amazing. So sweet to us, very loving, my 4 year old's absolute best friend. Extremely loyal to us, very protective, I was his person. We went on a trip a few months ago, took him with us, to visit our adult children where he tragically got sick and had to be euthanized while on vacation due to an underlying illness (we and vet believe stomach/intestinal cancer based off of his symptoms). While we gave him the best live we could with what we were dealing with (he was loved and knew it), I feel like this channel could have given us the tools needed to help him overcome his anxiety and issues. We recently adopted a puppy from a rescue and am SO glad we found this channel in our research. We've already gotten crate training down and we've only had her for less than 2 weeks! Once she receives her final parvo shot, onto loose leash walking!

  • I do this with my Dogue De Bordeaux. This is my second DDB male, and this one has big my biggest challenge ever. He does commands like a champ. however, he wants to play attack me. So, for example, I left for work, so when I get home, he play bites like Mouthing and is out of control and mad. If I sleep in he does the same thing. Like he's mad or thinks he's in charge in a sence. It's driving me nuts actually this one is so bad compared to my 1st DDB this one is also a rescue I got him at 7 months old. If I play he takes play way over the top as well.

  • my sweet shadow was a rescue.. she is a red nosed pitt and was so very abused.. the shelter really didn't want to adopt her out because she was so aggresive..but i just kept at them until they gave in.. she is such a good girl.. I have trained her to sit, stay, shake hands all kinds of things but she is having a very hard time with pulling me down the street.. but i'm sure if I keep up with my work with her she will get better at walking on a leash.. the funny thing is I can take the leash off her and she stays by my side and listens to everything I ask of her.. even when there are distractions.. I just don't get why the leash is so hard for her

    • This worked for me: stay consistent, if he pull then you stop. Secondly, find an open field and keep changing direction, he'll learn he has to pay attention to you. Thirdly, use a food reward when he walks with a loosely lead and give a vocal reward. You must stay consistent.

  • I like the sit stay before they are allowed to eat. However, this does not work for me with one of my dogs, he has to be persuaded to eat, wheedled and coaxed. This breed is known to go off their food for whatever reason. I would like him to work on a breed that is like mine, bred to use their mental capacity and think on their own. Sometimes I can see the internal struggle in him. He will listen if he thinks its a good idea, lol. This breed is also very sensitive to heavy handling. That is a strong no no. It does not thrive well locked in kennels. Its numbers were decimated during WWI and 2 because they were used to carry medical supplies, ammo and find injured soldiers. They are used to guard up to 200 sheep on their own without man. Thats when they use their brain power. They are also known as The Heart Wrapped in Fur. They are so loyal. Help me with this type of dog. Sit stay does not work for all.
