  • I am a Quad Pilot and I am also a Police Officer. I have no problem following the rules, but like you I would like to see this rule. Honestly, I am embarrassed by this confrontation. I am glad it was kept civil and in a discussion type format, I wish all my contacts with people went this way. I do believe in the Law, but I also believe in peoples rights not being infringed upon. Every time you press them for written proof of some sort of directive, rule, ordinance or law they started to stammer. You can tell from their response that they had no clue. I am guessing that this came down from somewhere above them where it was discussed in a meeting or something like that and maybe it was verbally told to them, but when they have no written proof to back up what they are saying it just makes them look stupid. Not sure where this was filmed at but I do know that you can not fly in National Parks. Where I am from a business owner can refuse service and ask you to leave his property w/o any cause at all and you have to do it. This being public land I am not sure how that would work other then the way you laid it out. Also you can not seize a persons real property w/o cause or a warrant. It does not seem like there is a written policy, law or ordinance to back the officers up so they can not seize your property.

  • for the record. with the park and them saying it's a "public safety issue" reply with "so is Frisbee and riding a bike, but recreational activities are for public areas." always refer to it as recreational activities.

    @mr.epotato954@mr.epotato9547 жыл бұрын
    • There is a level of expectation. a Frisbee can't do a reasonable amount of harm and riding a bike has it's limitations. You have certain places to ride the bike you just can't ride it around people. This issue seems to have been well discussed and taken into consideration and the decision to not allow him to fly a drone over a crowd of people. There is no telling what happens if the think malfunctions and hits someone. It's a very reasonable decision.

      @Kartracer6@Kartracer67 жыл бұрын
    • +Kartracer6 that's unrealistic expectations that deny basic rights. I have the right to enjoy a public park. "but it could hit me" then pay attention to your surroundings. baseball, soccer, tennis, basketball all of our recreational activities come with some inherent risk. it's a risk you agree to when you visit any public place. if you go to a restaurant, you risk food poisoning. if you go to a new barber, you risk a bad haircut. if you drive a car, you risk a car accident. even walking you risk being hit. I can't make you less afraid. but I can enjoy my life and take responsibility if my drone did hit someone. but like a bike or car, I'm in control. my skills as a operator are not up for debate.

      @mr.epotato954@mr.epotato9547 жыл бұрын
    • Mr. Potato it's not an unrealistic expectation many of these drones can get up to speeds of 50 to 60 mph, some even faster. There is a limit to your expectation of risks. Sports risks are only to those who involve themselves in the sport or choose to spectate. Restaurants have standards that must be met, barber shop is a private business they can't regulate that other then training laws, and driving a car has regulations. Based on your view point I should be legally allowed to drive my car at high speeds thru the park and not be stopped because my skills as an operator are not up for debate.

      @Kartracer6@Kartracer67 жыл бұрын
    • +Kartracer6 if you or anyone else is that afraid of my drone... go home... leave the park. but you have no right to tell me that what I'm doing is wrong or not allowed. just like I can't tell you to stop playing Frisbee... I can only give you more room. you talk about courtesy, yet, give none. nor do you present logic that I find to be conclusive of any real danger beside that which is expected on a day to day basis.

      @mr.epotato954@mr.epotato9547 жыл бұрын
    • +Kartracer6 also... you just said the risk is for those who participate or spectate... why would you spectate my drone if you're afraid I'll hit you? this logic applies to a sport. you just said it yourself...

    • the mere fact he is being questioned without criminal activity afoot is a violations. Plus the threat of taking the helicopter would be a seizure of his property with no law that gives him that authority. He doesn't make the law, his job is to enforce it whether he likes it or not.

      @2kwik4u2c@2kwik4u2c7 жыл бұрын
    • Matthew Mathews 1.) him being questioned isn't illegal. They told him multiple times he wasn't being detained for any crimes. No law says you can't approach and ask someone questions. 2.) taking the item may have been more of a threat then an actual promise. They never actually seized the item from him. Honestly what they should have done was asked him to comply or leave the park. But to be fair the officer was extremely professional and polite and explained to him that his actions where unsafe.

      @Kartracer6@Kartracer67 жыл бұрын
    • First comply with what? If there is no law against flying the drone then there is nothing to comply with. Second, Every state has their own laws on criminal procedure and I will give you that. But here in New York, polie encounters for a request of information reduces questioning to a general nonthreatening encounter in to ask briefly about identity, address, destination, and or a reason for being in the area. Any communication in NY other than name and destination requires articulable facts that support founded suspicion that indicates criminality is afoot.• For example, a police officer may not ask the occupants of a lawfully stopped vehicle if they posses a weapon w/out founded suspicion for that inquiry like bullets in plain view on the floor. Therefore, unless there is founded suspicion that someone is violating a specific law, the police in New York cannot just start asking you questions. Again every state is different, here our State Constitution give its people a lot more protections than is federal counterpart.

      @2kwik4u2c@2kwik4u2c7 жыл бұрын
    • Matthew Mathews Law? It's a policy. They deemed it a public safety issue. This isn't about the law, the park can make policies and police them even if they aren't a law (as long as they aren't breaking the law by making them).

Hate to say it guys but saying "I don't like calling it a drone." is like pointing at a potato and saying you don't want to call it a potato. I am an avid R/C enthusiast and I hate the negative connotation the word carries, but trying to correct someone on it or tell someone it is not a drone is entirely incorrect.

    • Lunar Fire I'm not arguing what I would or wouldn't call any of them. Personally I hate the term 'drone' and the negative connotation it carries. I'm simply stating correct use of the word.. And if in you're example you have FPV attached to your plane which allows you to operate it beyond your own line of sight - then yes it is a drone. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with the actual frame/means of propulsion. Fixed wing can be in the category just as much as multi-rotor. This is the reason the FAA blanketed their regulations across all model aircraft and not just multi-rotors.

BUT!!! all i can say is that the drone hype haven't done good for the other rc flying hobby. because of D-bags that fly them and causing trouble for the rest. all i can say is use common sense when flying. like never fly over a crowd. if you are asked to leave don't make a problem about that and search for a new spot. and if you can join a rc club that has a dedicated field.

    • I run a business flying these drones and I must say with the new regulations taking action on August 29th under Part 107 of the FAA, you may not fly over any persons or facilities not participating in the event as a cause of safety hazard if the drone fails and falls and injures someone. You now have to be certified to fly drones commercially by the FAA.

  • The National Park Service has banned all takeoffs and landings of any type of aircraft in any national park and many states have followed similar paths. You can fly over the park as the park does not regulate the airspace, some parks have also banned operating the drone from inside the park also e.g. going to the border of the park and taking off then walking in the park with the drone flying overhead.

I am sure people play football or soccer or some other ball sport in the same park, but that ball flies UNCONTROLLED thru the air, weighs alot more than a quadcopter, and therefore is more of a public safety threat.

  • Rules concerning flight with drones in Denmark Fly height with shall not exceed: 100 m Minimum distance to public aerodromes: 5 km Minimum distance to the urban built environment *: 150 m Minimum distance to major public roads: 150 m Minimum distance to the larger number of people: 150 m Minimum distance to accident sites: 200 m Minimum distance to police stations, prisons and arrest houses: 150 m Minimum distance to the Royal family properties: 150 m Minimum distance to military areas: 150 m It's probably different in other countries. It's hard to control a drone and only many hours doing better, there are errors on some drones and them is controlled using a phone or tablet they are not completely stable and if they lose the signal may fall down, close all apps before the flight for the best wifi signal on parrot.

  • They just make up rules and Laws as they go. That makes them above the law. That's a perfect demonstration of violating your rights as a citizen because they "feel" it's a public safety hazard. So they just make up rules at will. WOW......and even on camera they felt perfectly within their rights to say that on camera. It's amazing how ignorant about the law our own police are. That's actually scary!!!!

  • Here after George Floyd and protests have calmed. My take as a college student. Being indian I experience racism differently than most. While Blacks appear to get physical hurt while indians get verbally harrased. So many police are well intentioned but I see many that are not. I wish we had a solution but we simply do not. There is no amount of protesting that will remove the thought of racism from peoples mind. For everyone out there. I cannot force you to be equal. But on behalf of the colored community, I request you to be equal.

  • I hate the AMA fields. To me, it is just a racket - you have to pay for membership to fly there, then you have to have insurance....just a scam for a group of buddies from long ago that found a way to make money from other people that love to fly RC planes. There are a lot of good things about those types of groups, but it is only because of the individuals within the group - some of them are good people and not part of the scam, just one of the conned.

  • Its printed in instruction manuals etc. “Do not fly over people, public places, sporting stadiums, unless designated for r/c use” I believe it is also listed in FAA rules part 107. (I may be wrong on the specific #) Why these people keep asking for a written policy or law baffles me. It’s common sense. People go to parks for peace and quiet and do not want to worry about an r/c aircraft falling on them or hearing a swarm of angry hornets for 20 minutes. I understand YOUR rights, but when it infringes on OTHERS rights, it may not be written down, but still not a nice thing to do. This is why quadcopters have a bad rap. Rant over.
