Absolutely right. As soon as you’re with someone or a group of people and they’re backbiting or speaking/ mocking an individual, you know instantly that this same individual or group of people will do the same about me. Subhan’Allah. Allah swa guide us and protect us from that which is most displeasing to Him. Ameen.

THIS HABITS COMES FROM FAMILY, IF PARENTS HAVE THIS HABITS [BACKBITING] CHILDREN GET THIS HABITS. MY PARENTS NEVER BACKBITE , WHEN I WAS AT UNIVERSITY, I FELT EXTREMELY BAD, WHEN SOMEONE BACKBITE, MAY ALLAH FORGIVE US AND AWAY FROM THESE HABITS.

Insha'aAllah, i will attempt to take this methodology under advisement. JAK. I hope to learn, one day, what actually constitutes backbiting, because all discussion about others (in their absence) is not backbiting. For example, i always speak very candidly and openly with my mom. As my elder, i consider her to be my confidante and advisor, and what i say to her stays with her and vice versa. Sometimes, i simply need to vent. Otherwise, i have very few friends and i make a point to never discuss anyone or anyone else's business with them.

What to do in the situation of an abusive parent?. I remained quiet for many years. But this lead to my children acting as if the abuse wasn’t happening. They wouldn’t defend me when I would be beat or abused in anyway. Even though I’ve been a cover for them against their father’s abuse. Now my twenty year old son acts as if my lifetime of oppression is an inconvenience to him. My other teenage sons use our divorce to misbehave and disrespect me on a daily basis. I complain to them about their awful behavior and point out how wrong it is. I managed to stay quiet and not complain for many years to keep our problems private and to shield my children from so much toxicity. I’m not a victim or a back bitter I’m so tired of feeling the need to complain since silence seems to have an absolute awful effect on my children. What I mean by I’m not a victim and mean my abuser has me trapped using the care I have for my children I refuse to leave, instead I choose to stay and endure his abuse even though my children are ungrateful.

What can we do if someone has harmed us and we need to speak about it to someone ? We just don't mention them by name?
Assalamualaikum it depends who you speak to and the situation. If there's a need to speak about a problem then speak to someone who has authority or who can help. For instance a child in school, speak to a teacher who could help and you may use names, as that's how they can help. If in a domestic situation speak to an imaam or Apa/ustaadha or authorities if need be, who can help. At work your supervisor. We don't then go to everyone in class or the department and say so and so did this n that. May Allah help & guide us all

Salaam Alaykum. I don’t think that’s what he was talking about @ 4:22, fam. Sincere advice as well as commanding the good and forbidding the evil both have etiquette to them which would never call for one to disrespect and disgrace another person, which is what the Brother Imam specifically said the “shameless” and “hasty” people do. He clarifies further in the rest of the video too. Salaam Alaykum.
