  • Holy shit. I hope that when that explodes nobody's killed/injured.

    • Exactly, all it takes is to weld few more welds on top off all the welds the tank is made out of.

    • Is there a chance for that? That means every single air compressor should explode ? They all r welded from a sheet metal with some bent caps to it. All I did added few more welds to weak spots. It didn’t explode when it was rusted. Why should it b any different?

    • @@watchmefigure-it5469 It is very different in many ways, and your description of how they're made shows that you don't have a clue.

      @DonziGT230@DonziGT230 Жыл бұрын
    • @@DonziGT230 No it's not very different. If the material is up to spec and the weld is done well, it will hold up. The material in that tank though, nope!

    • The tank cost more then the compressor. I looked for one that’s y I decided to weld it. I think it should hold up. The rusted bottom was about 1 inch line in the center I did a patch 4 inch wide. If u look at the tank it’s welded all around from the factory. Sides. Nuts where the line goes. I talked to the welder who welded high pressure tank he said at that pressure it should b fine.

    • How about you put your theory to the test. Hydrostatic test it up to 1.5 times the max psi. That way you know for sure and you don't kill somone.

      @CampfireCrucifix@CampfireCrucifix2 жыл бұрын
    • @@CampfireCrucifix i got it up to 200 psi. still works, but i am more then welcome for the hydro test. just pay for it. i am not here to prove u anything i was wondering myself if its possible and it is very possible. how do u think the sides r made ? they r welded on the same way to the tube, its not a blow up tank, it is made from peaces welded together. there is more welds on it then u think.

    • @AW 33COM exactly. they all welded from a sheet of steal.

      @watchmefigure-it5469@watchmefigure-it54692 жыл бұрын
    • @AW 33COM the extreme heat from welding can affect the structural integrity of the steel I assume. making it brittle and once that micro gap opens she's gonna blow. personally I'd just make a custom rebar cage around it with wire mesh. but the shockwaves can be concussive.. dunno if it's worth it guys.

  • This is one of those times where it's not worth saving a few hundred bucks. Make a BBQ grill out of that tank and treat yourself to a new compressor. Just the ambulance ride to the emergency room would buy you a proper compressor with an 80 gallon tank.

    • There was a rusted through hole 1/16-1/18 diameter it was hissing loudly. Also u can use soap water With The sprayer and spray it on suspicious area and it will bobble up, in my case it was a big blown hole on the bottom of the tank where condensation collects. Also u can c it by the Pressure on ur gauge ,it were loosing air without any use, quickly in my case.

  • I think this repais makes no sense, for many reasons: 1- You saw there was rust insde the tank-. ALL OF IT, not just the bottom. And you only "repaired" the bottom. 2- You didn´t patch the area. you welded something over it. The entire metal sheet below will only have the strength of the weld around it. A good repair would have been as you did on the small hole. Cut and replace the whole thing otherwise it makes no sense. 3- You cannot compare a MIG weld with a MAW weld. It has different penetration and it will not have the same resistance as a factory weld, because different methods with different penetration levels are used. All around, this repair can be done, but not like this.

    • I got it up to 170psi and it hold up. But I am planning to use it on my next tool (laser cutter) I only need few bars of air for the laser cutter so I won’t b filling up to high pressures. The reason I kept it because it’s super quiet compare to my harbor freight 26 gal. compressor.

    • It will b fine. Just think about this it was rusted out and had a hole blown through the rust and was still working it was loosing air quick but being badly rusted out it didn’t blow up. On top of that it’s all in weld seams look at any compressor. Bolts, side caps. Release valve it’s all welded together. I tested it to 170 psi and it holds no problem and now in better condition then ever. However I am planning to use it for laser engraver that only requires 1-2 bars very low pressure. It’s too good of the compressor to get rid off and too expensive to replace the tank. But thanks for ur concern.
