👿 HEAVY METAL CHOIR UPDATE 👿
A very special thank you to the thousands of people who sent in their incredible demos. Due to the overwhelming response, we’ve had to end this open call early. Otherwise, we physically wouldn’t have enough time to review each demo thoroughly.
This has been an amazing experience. The level of talent in every submission is exceptional. I’ll endeavour to reply to each and every-one of you individually and I give thanks to you all.
We’ll be reaching out to various performers shortly.
You’re all awesome.

It's pretty obvious that it's Doom Eternal, dude. Mick was already pegged to return as a composer, plus the context of the project he's pitched and the location of the recording are massive clues. I think you can relax, knowing Doom Eternal's soundtrack will be even better than 2016's offering. :-)
you looking evil Mick
Regular choirs have been used before in metal music but I've definitely never heard of a scream, growl or shout choir. Interesting.
Last year when I was recording my metal album I've been trying to do that idea specifically, and now I know why it wasn't done before. It sounds bad, and not in a metal way. screaming (rasp, growl and any vocal effect) creates to much additional frequencies for choir. One screaming voice is enough to overpower full choir, so 30 people screaming will make it a mess. For melodies anyway.
@@rafalsadowski you underestimate mick gordon
@@olegbeon To be honest I wasn't hellbent on making that idea work no matter what, because in the end it didn't fit the album thematically so I put it on hold for 2-3 years, but I'm afraid it's one of those that sound cool only on paper like an orchestra made entirely from distorted electric guitars. I bet, whatever Mick records will be in some way used in whatever he's composing but my prediction is getting something sounding close to pissed off football stadium or multitracked vocal parts of Infant Annihilator's The Elysian Grandeval Galèriarch.
@@rafalsadowski I think it will be edited and like you said 'used as bits'
@@rafalsadowski How did you record it though? I can think of ways of making it work, I'd just need a lot of different kinds of microphones and a huge recording spot with nice natural reverb. I imagine the amount of noise that would exist (if it's just noise screaming without any proper melodic base to it), but depending on the outcome of other microphones, I'd be able to cut pieces here and there and add it to a track for potentially some good results. I can only imagine how low the pre-gain would be set for each microphone, though.
Why i love Id Beacause they can hire Ultra Creative persons how Mick Gordon
Now fired 😂
I remember the hell choir from doom and that was just badass....now he wants just a metal choir. *Holding back nut*
i so wish i could scream right now....
you and me both, i wish i could still scream like i used to.... but i've lost momentum after all these years!
My metal voice sounds like Cookie Monster with a sore throat so I'm out lol
Well you dont need to have scream like Corey Taylor, Matt Heafy, Ivan Moody or that guy from Amorphis(sorry i dont remember his name) or others. Develop your own scream, don't judge yourself by the screams of other people. Even if your scream would sound like a angry cat, dont give up. With practice you can transform that "angry cat "sound into something unique and awesome. And I believe that Mick will surely do more of these invitation for his future song if this one goes well. :)
@@krystoftrnka974 yes indeed. my angry cat sound will sound more like an angry pig being butchered. and that butchering goes pretty quick because my throat will hurt like hell. on the other hand.. i'm a guitarist. i studied at the conservatory in my hometown which happens to have an incredible teacher named tom holkenborg. people know him better as junkie xl. when he was doing the man of steel soundtrack together with hans zimmer, he conducted a drum piece in a big hall accompanied by (i think it was) 16 drummers who played a piece all at the same time. now imagine a hall.. 10 times as big... full with guitarists, full with stacks of amps. playing 1 thing all at the same time. imagine bfg division being played by 300 guitarists at the same time in a big massive hall full with stacks of amps and 4x12 cabs and the amps cranked to 11. not even satan himself can't handle that.
I wish I could get myself to Texas. Ah well. What can ya do?

I can't wait to hear the track this is for, this should be so kick ass!!! \m/
This is going to be amazing!
Scream and tear until it's done
IMO it'd be sick if you could get a hold of Sam Carter from Architects to do the vocals for whatever project you're doing. I feel his vocal style (Pertaining to DooM: Eternal at least) would fit the game incredibly well. Or hell, get Chris Barretto from Periphery, Their drummer already performed live with you during the 2016 game awards. I'm sure Chris'd be hella down to do it!
Chris is a good vocalist, but he hasn't been with Periphery in years. He's doing vox for Monuments now and Spencer Sotelo is the vocalist for Periphery.
I'd so be into this, though I wouldn't be able to get to Texas. Good luck with this project, sounds absolutely amazing!

Mick Gordon playing Holly in the Red Dwarf remake confirmed
Hmm if we assume this is for Doom Eternal, then if the recording for the choir is in March release date in the fall
knightmarex13 kind of disappointing, but as long as it comes out in 2019
What point in game development is the soundtrack usually made/completed?
KadSkirata probably depends on the devs, not everyone makes everything in the same manner. Valve tends to make the maps and gameplay first and then write the story (well when they did make actual games) but we have no idea how this team tackles it
Mick, you did it again! I've seen lastest DOOM Eternal trailer and it featured AWESOME SOUNDTRACK performed by you! Can't wait for release. Thank you for your music!

Choirs have various ranges, so why not various ranges of metal screams/vocals?
¿Porque no los dos?
