I should imagine that sometimes you can be in the zone. You see everything. People have talked about it as a flow state. Sean seemed to be in it. On the other side, Izzy seemed flat, slower and couldnt get going. It happens, but we wont find out whether it was a one off until they meet again.

A lot of times i think when ppl say this they are wrong but izzy did seem on point...firing up question mark kicks, looking for counters. For whatever reason he really did seem to nullify the guy who has sex with animals.
The excuses for Izzy are very odd. The point of a fight is making your opponent fight poorly. That's how you win. Izzy was dancing with energy on his way into the cage; he was mentally ready. His poor strategy of not moving forward cost him the fight.
If you have to say you are not a company man every episode, there is a good chance you are a company man. Strickland should do whatever he wants.
Seriously. Isn't it funny how everyone on the ufc payroll has the same story: "izzy doesn't deserve it, but it's best for sean". Like they know it would sound ridiculous if they said the rematch made sense, so they have to find some other way to justify it. Rematches make me want to stop watching this sport.

I feel so sorry for Strickland. No other fighter would be expected to beat someone twice to prove themselves after beating them 49-46 on all the scorecards. Its not hard to pick out the ufc employees in that conversation!
Dana does this all the time. He thinks you have to beat a long time champ twice which is complete BS. Plus Izzy just got his belt back and got whooped without controversy. It would make for a great fight, but the truth is it won't sell nearly as many PPVs as Izzy vs Strickland rematch. Unfortunately the UFC is more concerned with appealing to the casual fans base and making as much money as possible
I'm not sold that DDP will have much better cardio after his nose surgery. He is all muscle and he fights like a spaz. He's still going to get tired with his style plus dealing with someone like Sean who is going to hit him over and over again. Sean has world class cardio from sparring all the time. I think he smacks DDP around for 2 rounds, maybe 3 then DDP falls over from exhaustion.

Even if Sean were to lose a split decision that everyone says he was robbed, Dana white would NEVER give Sean the rematch. Not in a million years. But izzy? He can go 1-2 in his last 3 and dana will sit there, almost crying, saying he wants izzy to get the rematch. Even though izzy got the beat down of a lifetime and lost all 5 rounds.
Its very typical for the former champ to get a rematch. Even Glover got a another attempt of winning the title straight after loosing the belt on his first defence but Blachowicz never got a rematch no ones complaining about that BS. But if you loose as the contender even if its close you rarely if ever get an immediate rematch with the champ.

@@mrt6528 The division of LHW was in a really strange place for that situation. Hill was at 7. Jan had beaten Rakich via injury. Ankalaev over Smith. The division seemed stalled so they figured they'd run back an already great fight. MW has a clear # 1 contender in DDP

Haven't been so happy for a fighter in so long, Sean deserved this. I don't like the narrative that izzy was slow or not himself, sean knocked him down in the first and dismantled him for the rest of the fight. he had a counter for everything Izzy threw and Izzy builds on his strikes so with the jab being nullified Izzy was lost. Awesome fight by Sean!

It's weird that almost every pro has said Izzy looked off but yall think it's just dick riding Izzy or something. Izzy did look off and like he was thinking he was going to just counter Sean and drop him instead of dominating him over 5. Sean was ON POINT and completely nullified Izzy and walked him down. People have tried that before and it never worked. Pereira even alluded to him looking off in the video he released and said he needs to take a break. I like the Fact he Trained w/ PERIERA for a Bit 2 Prepare, which I always thought would Help Him; It's 1 Thing 2 Watch Tape, but for him to go to Alex & Glover T's Camp to Improve was Incredibly Smart: And Overlooked by Many Bettors & IZZY's Camp in the Buildup to the Fight. PEREIRA "indirectly" Haunts IZZY, and Sean Pitches a Gem, or 2 be More Accurate, a "Near" Shutout... Strickland made sure to Move That Head & Not Stand & Gaze like the Alex Fight, and it Paid off Big Time.

Izzy was getting touched up in the second Alex fight and if Alex was more patient Izzy doesn’t pull off that winging hook. Then Izzy said no to the rubber match. I think he knew he would lose. I think Strickland was in his head and Izzy new he was going to lose after the first round. Strickland was snake charmed in the second round but shook that off and stepped on the gas.
Izzy threw a Hail Mary against Poatan and landed. He’s been trash. 3-1 against Poatan ran away from Romero. And finally Sean outed him not only for a dog molester, but for a trash fighter.
There’s a chance that Izzy’s hit the wall. He may be on a massive decline. Dude’s 4-3 in his last 7 matches.

Bisping you shut Harrington down so quick but he was speaking facts. It’s about what’s best for the direction of the division and what makes sense, not what’s best for Sean. It’s so unfair to the many contenders who deserve to move forward in their careers. How does Izzy get to lose the belt, get a instant rematch, get one win and then get another rematch. Sean Strickland has some serious Star power and literally 95 percent of all fans, and the mma community all are agreeing that none of them want to see the rematch. Indeed; Here's a Proposition that's likely 2 Not Happen; Granted, he didn't perform as well as he should have in losing 2 IZZY, but CANNONIER has a Case; More impressive vs Vettori than IZZY, as well as Strickland in a Close Fight that could have gone Either Way; Rematch w/ Sean for the Title but I think the UFC may still hold the Loss 2 IZZY against him, Plus Adesanya gets the Rematch or the winner of Strickland - Du Plessis; AND, if KHAMZAT beats COSTA they'll fast-track him to fight IZZY if he doesn't want to Sit Out You could Book KHAMZAT - CANNONIER, who did call for it, but JARED needs to Rattle some Cages to get a Rematch w/ Sean and / or IZZY, and I may be Wrong, but I think a 2nd IZZY Fight is Much Different w/ Adesanya getting "Smoked" if CANNONIER brings his that Cardio & Power; And his Clench Game & Wrestling isn't bad either... Anthony is really good on here. Only time I didn't agree with him was on Jon Jones
Strickland's style is what made Izzy look bad. There is no point in speculating about Izzy's performance going into the future. This fight did not indicate he is on the decline. It just indicated that if you can effectively pressure Izzy and not make yourself vulnerable to counter shots you can largely shutdown Izzy, at least until Izzy and his camp can figure out a good strategy to deal with that.

@@superstar_h_gamer5211 in their first UFC fight Alex pressured a lot more and he looked good but he also leaves himself open to shots. In his second fight they were circling the center of the octagon a lot more. And when he pressured for the last time he got too wild and left himself open to the counter. Overall Alex did very well but he isn't as defense minded as Strickland. Left himself open to being countered and hurt a lot.

People need to realize Izzy's gameplan involves little offensive boxing. He rarely initiates a punch unless you're the one throwing. Can't rely purely on counter striking.

I think Bisping nailed it when he said Izzy was just looking for that magic shot, that counter shot but Sean didn't give him that, he didn't lunge in.
The difference between Izzy vs Gastelum and this fight is that Izzy could and was hitting him. He couldn’t hit Sean. Can’t pull anything out of the fire if there is nothing to pull and no fire

I don't know why people say that Izzy was off. He wasn't. He was just as fast and active as he normally is. He simply wasn't landing because he was fighting against the best defense in the division. Izzy is horrible at offense. He has always been horrible at offense, that's why his fight with Romero sucked. The difference is that Sean is a psycho and just walk up to him while being defensively sound. It's a nightmare matchup to him. The joke is on all of us for not seeing it. The only one who saw it was Pereira because he actually fought both.

Izzy had an "off nite" bc Sean had an exceptional nite and made Izzy look like a rookie!! Constant presure, checking the kicks, the weird way he can handfight and block punches with his arms in that shell defense....... Sean was way better and a tougher puzzle than Izzy gave him credit for, and it coat him the belt. That's why mma is the best sport in the world..... bc ANYTHING can happen at any time! It was like a fight out of a Rocky movie... Amazing defence that literally disassembled the much feared Adesanya. The low kick defense especially caught my eye early in the fight. But what did catch my eye all throughout the fight was Strickland's look... he was so so focused... so much more than Izzy ... Great fight!!! There was quiet a few Australian fans going against izzy. He seems like a guy that would deep down let that affect him.
Strickland is the James Toney of MMA, in that he derives all of his conditioning from sparring countless rounds with all kinds of styles. as a result he is super calm, while he stalks his opponent, and able to make his opponent miss and get tired, while he stays fresh and relaxed. He had an excellent front kick to the belly, and simple 1-2 punches the whole way through.
And books and I think one or two outside leg kicks and that's literally it. It gave us common men hope

It actually makes better financial sense to do Strickland vs Du Plessis. If Sean beats him, you get the Israel redemption story, if Dricus beats Sean, then give Izzy the Du Plessis fight and it's the Africa story with the black guy as the challenger. If you do the immediate rematch, you lose one of those two big fights. Even if Izzy doesn't take a fight in the interim.
DC did that with Stipe when he got the belt for HW, fought Derek Lewis, then Stipe fought DC again and retook the belt. Stipe did not get a immediate rematch.

during the build up Tai had said he was training with his friends and his cousins during this camp. i knew right away that was a problem and he probably wasn't going to win if that was true. i think the couple of losses he had might have demotivated him a bit, and this last one probably isn't going to help.

The level of damage control over Izzy losing to the better, more deserving man is baffling. This is what the media has to do after they get exposed for creating something that isn't real. The truth is that Sean is simply better, he was intentionally underrated and Izzy has been way overrated. He's lost 2 out of 3 with the machine behind him 1000%. That says a lot in pro fighting.

As an Adesanya fan I'll say he did more to alienate his fanbase than Sean did to turn people against him. I wasn't won over by Sean or his personality at all, but at the same time I've found it harder and harder to find anything relatable about Izzy's put-on personality. "Too Cool 4 School" describes his consistently facetiousness attitude pretty well. Gonna be hard to bounce back publicly if he doesn't find a slice of humble pie soon.
