  • To clarify, our Hobi had already joined Big Hit in 2010. The vid you saw was the promo for the Hit It 2011 audition.

    • The video is not his audition tape! Jhope was already working for bighit in this video. The video is an ad he did for bighit for advertising their 3rd audition in 2011. Jhope joined bighit in 2010! And was the first member to sign to the company. It's all in the beyond the story book.

  • Damn he used Herbie Hancock's Rockit. Im so freaking impressed. When that song and video dropped in the early 80's I was about nine or ten, and instantly smitten. You all aren't lying here about a single thing, that Era was the beginning of hip hop, in the exact same way The Cure, Sugar Cubes, and Souxsie and the Banshees were the pre dawn of Alternative. we had kids breakdancing on their cardboard in the parking lots in the alley behind the grocery store, so fly with their boom boxes, bandanas, and rolled up leather MJ jackets, we were making our own mixtapes and omg the sampling was fire. We still had the glitzy urban remnants of 70's soul and disco lingering too. All this early stuff, like Rappers Delight, keeping us real busy and fly at the rink. I went back recently just for sh*ts and giggles and watched some Beastie Boys videos (lol I know I just veered really hard, bear with me) and I was so overjoyed at the abundance of sampling, creativity. Energy, and the good natured stylish camp. I only mention that out of nostalgia for the broader Era; the power that scratching, spinning, sampling, rapping, mixing, dancing, skating, and creating our own myths and styles gave the kids, people who otherwise didn't have the instruments, schools, access and resources for making establishment music. We made our own and that my friends is how true movements happen. We've seen our boys dance to Its Tricky too, and I'll tell you Korea is carrying forward our mid-century Soul in so many ways more reverentially than we are at home. But not with a xerox, just faithfully weaving all that rich inspiration throughout their own fresh visions. I'm so grateful to the Korean scene right now. 💜

  • It's still gets me heated way back then people who were trying to get people hyped for J Hope were saying that he's well known for his dancing but it's also rare that he can rap and dance. I was like damn this child must be young to think that rap and dancing doesn't go hand and hand but for idols back then it was rare to have that combo so I was happy I just said that it's only rare for kpop idols but not for OG rappers even legendary ones if you're willing to do your research 😂😂😂 but in reality I was like 👿 and cussing outside of the keyboard 🤣🤣🤣

    @LazySass@LazySass5 ай бұрын
    • Yeah i know what you mean, I see sometimes people say things like, jhope didn't know rap or hip hop before he met RM or suga and I'm like, are you kidding me? He was a street dancer, that's like such a fundamental part of hip hop culture, you can't tell me he didn't know anything about hip hop. Like it's crazy to hear people say stuff like that but I guess it's just a lack of knowledge of what hip hop is

      @TooLittleInfo@TooLittleInfo5 ай бұрын
    • @@TooLittleInfo very true dancing is such a basic foundation of Hip Hop but also don't really blame the ignorance either as most interviews only focus on writing, producing and cadence for an idol to be a rapper and top album/rapper/song and how much knowledge that person had in it came from those in the K Hip Hop scene so it became a boxed thing that just went in circles. Some also don't realise that just because positions are assigned it doesn't mean that it's all they are or only capable of 🤣 But J Hope did learn his rap style/flow from RM and Suga but not the Hip Hop culture, it's that man's efforts though that polished and refined it to the point there's a difference between all 3 styles that is not 2 styles and 1 copy and paste 🤣

  • Bangtan Soyedan made it for a reason. They are beyond beyond and the passion they each have for what they do the dedication. incredible! Inspiring! I love them and i truly hope for the best while they are away in the army but I also cannot wait to see what they do when they get back becasue as much as it sucks that they have to go away i think the things they gain in the army will inevitably contribute to their art. I also think their solo careers will of course impact their music when they're back and i am so so excited for that!

  • Hobi has old school hip-hop in his soul... and it looks like it was in him from the very beginning... I mean, who knew one could rap to Herbie Hancock's "Rockit"? When we see old pre-debut videos of Hobi at dance competitions and such, it's always old school with him... even in his first solo album and the songs he's written for the BE album, it sounds old school... then there was "Chicken Noodle Soup" with Becky G... and I'm old enough to remember old school, 'cos my intro to hip-hop was thru' the movie "Breakdance" with Ozone, Turbo & Kelly, before it got a title name change... that movie was so etched in my brain, esp the dance battles with Shabba Doo and Boogaloo Shrimp with Ice-T as the MC on the mic... so yeah, old school poppin' n lockin' and all that... rappers' origin was from those MCs talkin' it out to the beat over the mic, I mean correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that how the art of rapping got started? I remember Run DMC and how they did "Walk This Way" with Aerosmith, and "It's Tricky". Dance battles were all the rage, and even Michael Jackson showed it in his music video for "Beat It". And anyone remember "Rapper's Delight" by Sugarhill Gang? And don't leave out Chaka Khan... I loved "Ain't Nobody" and "Feel For You". Those are the things I remember off the top of my head about that time.

I doubt more than a handful in Korea 'got it' over a decade. Now I can better understand why JHope considered leaving BTS before they even debuted (I think I'm correct as to the timing).

    @BM-ur4je@BM-ur4je5 ай бұрын
    • What? Jhope joined bighit in 2010. Not in 2011. By 2011 jhope was already part of bts and he was writing songs with them. Also jhope only considered leaving because of the pressure pf being a trainee.. not because of anything else.

  • Si as I have been saying from day one. RM and Suga as those army haters try to say taught Jhope how to rap is such crock. So much proof he was doing before . How could you even believe that if you did your research. Video after video and interviews . He was underground as a hip hop dancer and he sang and of course rapped . Why he struggled to stay with bangtan . He had other options . He was going to be big either way . But he knew he wanted to sing and rap and dance, way before bangtan ! Why manager from bangtan reassured him being in KPOP would not keep him from rapping career !!!
