Always amazes me.. my horse stands still and calm for the ferrier... but acts like I'm trying to kill him putting a saddle on.

I’m sure you’re just posting this ironically but I have seen that happen before with geldings that had back pain so they associated getting saddled with someone about to hop on a put pressure on their painful back! Some cbd and lil bit of pain management helped a LOT

Please don’t trim the frog as much. It provides direct support for the coffin bone. If you want a cleaner heel put a roll on that toe

Ugh. They arnt supposed to trim the frog all the way down! Only if it isn’t level with the rest of the foot! They arnt supposed to go all the way down and trim it bear.

@Kim Morton-Diehl Yes the fleshy v-shaped part in the center is the frog, and yes it should (mostly) be left alone. Its meant to be a load-bearing part of the foot, like the sole of our shoes, especially the arch-support ones. It should be pretty much level with the contacting parts of the hoof, and it does shed itself for the most part every so often. Pretty much just making sure that nothing can be caught under the frog in the grooves is all that *needs* doing. -even in that case, its usually best to just be sure to pick feet regularly rather than cut it back, as it grows in order to protect the foot where needed.

@@thatfruitygowrl Bulb of the frog needs to be even or slightly below the edge of the hoof wall. Since the hoof wall gets taken down to just longer than the sole, it's easy to guage where the frog should sit. :)
