  • In hindsight, the glitchy ending could be Armin, as the narrator, trying to remember what happened around the time he became a titan as he was only kind of alive when he transformed

  • Erwin screaming before the Scouts leave for the mission is one of my favourite scenes. One of the the very few things which gets me more hyped than a new AoT overanalysis episode dropping. Especially after seeing Erwin so tormented and exhausted throughout all of season 3, him still being able to build up such charisma and power, as well as genuine excitement for seeing the basement, is just so inspiring, Levi's reaction says everything. And it makes it so much more tragic when he eventually chooses to sacrifice his dream.

This detailed level of analysis is exactly what I'm craving and it makes me so happy to see so many people being interested in this, because most people these days only care about superficial things in anime. But it's the beautiful storytelling and use of narrative elements that, at least for me, make anime worth watching and to see someone actually CARING about the details and foreshadowing like you do, inspires me a lot in my own analyses. • I don't really see the future Kenny analogue at all, I just thing Erwin was very obviously already broken from trauma and survivors guilt and in the end Levi realized that he could not bring the true suicidal maniac of AOT back to life as the colossal Titan doomed to be weaponized like a nuclear bomb. I don't think the differences in Armen and Erwin's ideology or perspective had any consideration for Levi, I think that from a cold, cost/benefit analysis Erwin is the obvious choice bar none, Flock was right superficially but while Flock knew Erwin's legend Levi knew the man and realized that the Erwin that got them to that point was already more or less gone before Erwin's final charge and that resurrecting the man as the Colossal wouldn't really bring him back. Erwin had simply seen and done to much at that point, sacrificed to much. He had nothing left to give and if he was given the colossal titan he'd probably ended up feeding himself to another Titan or just disappearing and living in seclusion once paradie started making contact with the outside world. He wanted to die, simple as, and Levi couldn't bring himself to torture him with the colossal's resurrection no matter how valuable his mind was to them.

  • Levi later explains that he didn't choose Armin, but rather chose for Erwin to die then and there, because of his 私情 aka "personal feelings" (that part sadly wasn't translated quite accurately). Eren also pointed out that Levi wasn't rational on that rooftop at all. That being said, didn't Levi let Erwin free of his suffering, DESPITE what was better for Humanity's victory? We also will hear a lot in s4 that Hange, Armin and others would often reflect on that Erwin would have been a much more capable option for the command. And finally, in all the interview with the author and the cast the main focus when speaking about Midnight Sun episode is always Levi giving Erwin a mercy of peace (he was just about to inject Erwin after all, but what finally stopped him was Erwin himself and his gratitude for letting him go) and never choosing Armin as "the better option". Levi will literally say, "You can never replace him."

    @krtkjkr@krtkjkr18 күн бұрын
    • It’s begun… 😂 Jokes aside, I’ll talk about all of that when we actually get to the decision, clearly it wasn’t as simple as Levi already having been convinced, but I think it’d be silly to say that the events of this episode don’t weigh on him. Plenty more on that though 👍

    • @@Koroto thank you for reading my yapping 😅 Yeah, I'm sure there's more to come, it's just that when you said Levi's mind is already 99.9% made up on that night, it left only 0,1% of the weight for all the upcoming events. I think Midnight Sun is known to be the ultimate episode about a choice for a reason, while the Night Before... to me is more about Levi feeling the inevitable and failing at trying to convince Erwin to live 😢 He's definitely not ready for that choice at the time.

  • Rule of thumbs for low tech farming: When rearing meat animals like cows; you'll need 10 kilos of grass to get 1 kilo of cow. You'll also need 1 hectare of land to feed 1 person from the crop yield. Needing approximately 1 kilo of edible flora to get 1 kilo of person. So with the conversion rate of plant to animal remaining roughly the same the question remains; why even bother with meat when you could just grow more crops? To start with, alot of what your food grows out/off of isn't actually edible, or even useful. But your cows can eat some of that and give you milk in return. Also when you combine meat and vegetables in a ratio of about 25 to 75 in your diet, you'll need less food over all to stay fed and healthy. Beyond that the bovines are strong and therefore useful in making your farming more effective. Their excrement should also be composted with straw to create a primitive form of fertilizer. And to cap it all off, among other things their skin is literally what we make most leather out of. At the end of the day though you'll want atleast 3 hectares of land dedicated to agriculture per person you want to keep fed. In order to maintain food reserves for emergencies and allow for slight population growth. Which is how I explain the farmlands between walls Maria and Rose being such a massively big deal to everyone within the walls.

  • BTW do you think Sina, Rose, and Maria got differentiated Titans? I haven't seen this anywhere, but I imagine in going from Ymir's original titan to the Nine passed down separately, there must have been intermediate stages with fewer than nine. We know they take slightly different forms with each shifter. Maybe Ymir's daughters had a proto-Colossal-Female-Founding titan, a proto-Armored-Warhammer-Attack titan, and a proto-Cart-Jaw-Beast titan. Then whoever shared in eating them (to get from 3 inheritors to 9) got further differentiated versions, changing with how each successive shifter used their powers.

I think the headshape is kinda a giveaway for that - Marcel's face was a bit more round/blocky, Bertolts is a lot more oval. (Could also be different animators or something like that. This episode does have a few distinct frames too. Mikasa on the stairs looks a tad different to the usual close ups. Erwin's framing in the Levi scene also changes a little bit etc)

  • Nah. Commanders advertising themselves as the commander was actually the norm throughout history. Kings would wear crowns on their helms, or gilded armors; generals would wear extremely fancy horse-hair mohawks and feathers, and occasionally fancy scarlet capes. The morale boost to the soldiers, especially if the commander is fighting on the front alongside them, was incredibly potent, and would prove to be instrumental in winning battles, often-times. It was also the case that in the same way flags (or other symbols representing the division of the army you are fighting in such as the Romans' golden eagles) represented a central point to rally around and ensure cohesion in the unit, commanders would often need to be a central figure to ensure that is readily recognizable in order to make sure their orders are carried out. They just had to rely upon their fellow soldiers to protect them and hope no one got a lucky throw with a javelin or shot with a gun/bow/crossbow/slingshot or whathaveyou. It was only after modern communications tech was put into play that generals really had the luxury of hiding away from the battlefield and directing things from elsewhere. Even if most commanders preferred to fight from the rear when it wasn't necessary to join their men at the front (because they did know that losing the commander would likely cost a potential victory, and typically didn't want to put themselves in danger unless they felt it necessary, as such), they would still wear distinguishing markers to make it very clear who was in charge.

  • Hi Koroto and co. Great episode as always. So I am dumb and don’t remember, why/when did Erwin lose an arm??? Also, I somehow feel justified and unjustified in skipping ED’s because this is the first I’m learning of such an ending to an episode and good grief it is creepy. I cannot imagine how over the top it would have been for people watching live and unable to rewind to THEN overanalyze

    • Erwin's arm got chomped at the end of season 2 during the Eren chase. My video on the episode: kzhead.info/sun/arNpprmBaap3g6M/bejne.html And for the EDs, I've been lucky enough to always have a pretty good sense that something more might be coming (usually abnormal run time or something like that). Seeing this for the first time was nuts 😅

  • I agree with most of your points but I don't think he had 99 percent made his choice , I think it was weighing heavy on him and he was considering all those points you made but I think with erwin's sacrifice and choosing Levi as the sole survivor to avenge him and the others made him almost guilty to the point where seeing erwin alive (barely) when he assumed he was dead made him double think himself and want to give the syringe to erwin and it was erwin's final hand raise that made him realize what the right choice actual was

  • I have a theory that future Eren actually sent that memory of Erwin in his fathers class to him in that moment so Levi would choose armin. Love to hear yours and anyone else’s thoughts on this or perhaps you’ll talk about it in a future video.

  • 29:48. Is not Reiner and burrito It’s suppose to be Marcel grown up if you pay attention it’s the same outfit he was wearing when he was small and eaten. Plus it just does not look like burrito hair clothes nothing face Plus he looks to confident to be him 😂 Sorry koroto first time correcting you and it could of easily been because of recording voice over that you messed up or missed the error If that’s suppose to be bertolt why does his outfit change after but reiners stays the same Etc Idk the whole face looks like Marcel older as well not bertolt I could be wrong but everytime I seen that scene I thought it was Reiner imagining Marcel with him

  • People in the comments say that Levi chose the future over the past, but do they realize that Levi himself got stuck in the past after Erwin's death? 🙁 Isayama: "He is currently like a balloon dangling in the air rather aimlessly. To Levi, staying with Erwin until Erwin's last minute gave him a feeling that his has accomplished everything he needs to. I think he still has the goal of killing the Beast Titan." Hiroshi Kamiya (Levi's VA): "Levi hasn't changed. The loss of Erwin is so huge that afterwards he feels like he's just living out the rest of his years" Daisuke Ono (Erwin's VA): "After Erwin's death Levi always seemed lonely."

  • Yes!! Ohhh, we finally going there, I'm so hyped - thank you so much for this awesome series! I've been wondering, are you studying/working with media or is this just a hobby of yours? Edit: Ohhh, the depth perception thing is very interesting. I've got both my eyes, but fun fact for everyone not in the know - it's a learned skill and I never did, having pretty much no concept of 3D spaces. It was very interesting to me that Levi did seem to struggle with some final fights and honestly, it's not surprising. You can learn to work around it, but even at 25 with as many years of experience, you still smash into things. Edit 2: Now we need an Isekai. "I got turned into a Titan forced to wander the medieval island!!"
