  • This is my all time favorite fight breakdown show. You’re the best in the business Dan. I mean that and I’ve been watching MMA since the 90s. There are other MMA shows, but you EXPOUND on the technical details, whereas lesser shows fall back to talking about heart, or motivation, or what a fight “means.” I want to know how these two pugilists match up, not their inner psychological workings! You deliver, again and again. This fight is going to be epic.

  • The thing is that Jon isnt very predictable. He's a very, "in the moment" fighter, when he's at his best. He's so fantastically creative bcuz he's fighting "in the moment" / "in the zone", the majority of the fight. I think Jon's potential suffers most when he's following a coaches "game plan".

  • Cyril gane is a bigger stronger Thiago Santos. He uses a great range of kicks, very dextrous, bounces around, uses leg kicks perfectly, uses his length and jabs very well. I think Jon Jones is going to have a lot harder time than people think, I think gane should be the favourite seeing how Jon is moving up in weight, hasnt fought in 3 years, he's 35 and arguably lost his last two fights.

  • I think JJ had 3 things in the LHW division that made him an unsolvable puzzle: he was a wrestler, had insane reach advantage, and creativity/versatility in striking - all of these aspects covered each other's weaknesses. Those with long reach (most often strikers) get outwrestled, but that doesn't work because he is a great wrestler. Reading him and closing the distance and countering is hard as he is so versatile in striking. He, on the other hand, can be so versatile because he has the range and opponents won't normally rush into him with takedowns. As a wrestler, he can just look for openings as it is not on him to do something (again because of the striking range), so he doesn't have to force predictable takedowns like e.g. Blaydes. Now, at HW he loses the range, naturally some of his speed, especially compared to Gane, and with these the creativity will I think not be there anymore - e.g. it's much easier to "lock horns" and land standing elbows on someone like Rashad Evans who is shorter and has shorter reach. He will have to chase and force takedowns on Gane. If he is successful at consistently taking him down, he will finish Gane, otherwise I think Gane wins by TKO/KO or by decision.

In LHW, Jones could post his lead hand to block strikes and keep fighters where he wanted them. Gane can nullify that with his own reach and switch stance. Gonna be interesting to see

  • I have the impression that no one watched that Cyril/ Ngannou fight, Francis was made clueless on the feet. He got 2 reactive takedown being probably the strongest fighter the sport has ever seen. Going in the 5th it was 38-38, Cyril on top, throws a sub, ends on bottom, never threatened. Loses the decision. Jon was a roided weight bully, fighting flip flop sellers. Dude couldn't avoid getting brutalized against Santos and Reyes, his striking is 2000's ufc2 bs, he got pillows for fist, he's 35 going up a weight class, off the juice. Jon will look like Marvin Vettori in there, getting outboxed by a slicker, fitter fighter, losing a decision because his chin will keep him up all 25 minutes. This is a bs fight, Blaydes and Pavlovich are the true challenges for Gane at the moment.

He got Reyes down like one time and it took everything he had, and Reyes just got back up. The look on Jones' face was priceless...like "UGHHH." Then Dan uses the old "beat them at their own game" cliche'. I feel like that old hype is long gone. Not saying he can't win this, but it won't be based on all that old stuff when he was roided to the gills. Teams have also figured out counters to that oblique nonsense. Reyes countered it.
