Gravitas Plus: The Khalistan movement is now history, but globally the Khalistan bogey has reemerged. How did a protest in India become a debate about Khalistan? What is the role of “foreign forces?” Palki Sharma explores how history is being used to hijack the present.

There is a sentence "Unity in diversity", we must need to respect that. The only thing makes us unique is our diversity. A country can't separated by language and religion. • @@parampreetsingh8343 brother, there seems to be some confusion in your mind. Firstly, France has never placed a ban on Sikh turbans and it was even clarified by the French ambassador and the French embassy, they have only placed a ban on the burqa dress which we have no connections with. Secondly, The Sikh regiment is the most decorated Regiment in the Indian armed forces and it’s not true that they are intentionally left out of the republic day parade. India has a lot of regiments and every year Regiments switch places, meaning not all regiments are able to March every year. The Gurkha regiments is also a highly decorated regiment but it was not included in the past 2 years because they switched out with others. However Sikh and Punjab regiments are always included as there are multiple regiments for Sikhs and Punjabis, Punjab, Sikh regiments.

Did he start the violence? Or Did he first see the violence and the desecration of Guru Granth Sahib? Did he really ask to kill any innocent Hindus? Yes, he made one mistake by taking refuge in Golden temple. I don't support Khalistan but a lot wrong had been done to Punjab and sikhs by the Congress government of those times. A lot of punjabi Hindus, especially the ones affiliated with RSS and Sangh, were killed by the people hired by Congress. But it was easy to blame the sikh extremists. BJP is no saint either. They have tried to repeat it via 26 January incident.

But my parents made it sure that our Sikh neighbors were protected and made sure that they had everything they needed. The Sikh families in my community in India were always close to us. We respected them and we cared for them in spite of our differences. When you have Sikh’s married in the family and friends who are Sikh’s, it very hard for me to think of a Sikh as not an Indian and least to say a Khalistani. !

    • What you mean, using democratic means such as voting in a referendum? How dare they do such terrorist activities and comply with UN provisions for persecuted minorities! I mean, what is wrong in invading a holy place on Guru Arjan Dev's Shaheedi Day knowing there'll be thousands of innocent pilgrims? And invade other gurdwaras where there were no Bhindrawales? Ok, they're not Hindus but surely they can forget it, and the widow's colony. They're troublemakers after all, just jealous that the genocide agitators prospered in their political careers afterwards, after November 1984? Surely you can expect for one of the largest armies in the world to stop supplies to Bhindrawale's few men I amritsar in June 1984? And what's wrong in killing people in Delhi because they're wearing turbans or wearing karas (bangles)? As Big B said on Door Darshan TV as he was a mate of Rajiv, khoon ka badla khoon, khoon ke shitey unhoke har ghar pohunchne chaahiye! That's fair...isn't it?

  • The weird thing about this Khalistan issue is that the people who want to carve out a separate nation for themselves in India so badly are not in India; they are all in Canada. And, now, chances are that India will never, ever, issue them visas to enter India. That would be totally within India's sovereign rights; no one in the world can challenge India over this. These Khalistanis are not very smart, are they? They can't now come to India: at least not their ring leaders, EVER . They will NEVER be allowed entry into India, EVER. Yet, they demand that India carve out a piece of its sovereign territory into a new nation called Khalistan. How ridiculous all that sounds? Do these misguided souls, or more appropriately terrorists, even realize how stupid and illogical their demand sounds? Let Canada create a separate province in Canada for these terrorists; India has no problem with that. Canada would be a big loser over this nonsense issue. Hard to figure out why Canadian govt. took such a foolish stand over this. But, talking to my family members living in Canada, it’s not all that surprising to them, coming from their dim-witted, narcissist premier. He’s coalition Govt. depends upon Khalistani support for its very survival.
