Early morning on my first cast I Hooked a great white shark! Luckily I lost it as they are a protected specie in South Africa! later the day I lost another big shark and then we headed of to fish for hammerhead sharks from the rocks!

Anglers that have a high catch rate. Have a few things in common. They know how to read their marks. know what conditions their prey like too feed in. What seasons the fish they are fishing for are likely to be around. All these things take years of practice. Some anglers are lucky. They have a lucky catch. It doesn't matter how good the angler is. If the fish don't want to feed. Then you won't catch. This applies any we're around the world. One thing I forgot. Using the correct bait and rigs.

awesome fish. why do you have the reel sitting so low on a spinning reel set up? i've only ever seen people in SA setting up their rig like this...
Thanks... we have just always fished like that...we wade a lot and we wade deep it just cast easier and with the actions of our rods it just works better...the long butt underneath reel seat is really uncomfortable with a big fish and fighting it for long periods and always in the way...we only use the longer butt section when we are throwing lures. We get some good distances on our cast in this way.

Why is it illegal to land a great white?
Its a protected specie, even though its better to land it and remove to hook when you Hook them by accident you are not allowed to catch them, if i got to a landable position I would've walked up to it in the water and cut the trace close to his mouth.

Everything you want, beaches, river mouth, deep reef shallow reef, deep water points. Deep water with sand bottom, deep water with reef bottom, Pinnacles and islands. Standing on rocks throwing on sand, sranding on sand throwing onto rocks and any structure you can think off.
What happens if you didnt loose the shark would u just cut the line?personally I would land it and release safer in my opinion
Hi you are 100% correct. I would've most probably pulled it into the shallows and try to remove the hook if not possible cut the trace as close to the mouth as possible.

We live in a great part of SA....people have a total misconception about south africa. Its beautiful and very safe...
Zoo Look Fishing I have heard it’s safe out of the city. Done Cape Town and felt ok but had two big sons with me. Went Umplanga for three years running a long time ago and felt safe there, good few miles outside Durban. We really want to do SA beach sharks so will be in touch when flights start again.
