Ryle doesn't remember the 20 series was a bad deal. The 2080 was only 1080 ti performance, cost just as much, and had 3GB less VRAM.
I'm very worried about rushing this after the whole 2070 super version came out a half+ year after the original 2080 and undercut the price to be the same as the old 2070. A 200 dollar price difference for 4% performance difference was painful. I think ill wait for big navi to see if nvidia creates a 3080 super to outperform the flagship navi for the same price or a little higher.
@@firedrapeon6012 from what I'm hearing they may be holding back the 16GB 3070 and 20GB 3080 till then though while the 3070 seems to definitely be coming there is conflicting news on the 20GB 3080. If it is real though, we should wait for it. 10GB is really just scraping by at 4K as Doom Eternal can even use 9GB and that's not really a next gen high quality appearance.
@@Skylancer727 i hope they don't do that to the 3070, alot will be pissed after buying the 3070 and then a 16gb 3070 comes out for the same price. 20gb is a ridiculous amount of vram though. I'd prefer more processing cores and maybe 16gb at most for the 3080 super. In the meantime I have to suffer with this 1030 because I sold my 2080 before the price crash.
@@firedrapeon6012 nah I think that's the best thing that could happen. Nvidia exists to make money and if AMD gets close they will want to crush them even if they have to drastically drop prices or give more for the money. That's why they were so aggressive to be first, so they can sell the worse deal to early adopters. If you are willing to deal with higher RMA rates and scalping of being an early adopter, you probably were also totally unwilling to wait for the upgraded model anyways. Also, 10GB just too little for 4K which the 3080 is made for. Plus they can't do 16GB as it has to be the same bandwidth to just plop onto existing 3080s. It's not a 3080 ti as much as just a 3080 with 2GB chips instead of 1GB chips. Mixing 2 and 1GB chips also costs more and could hit performance so that's also not an option. Plus we have no idea how much VRAM games will use in 2 years. If Nanite takes off you might need 20GB at 4K as it rendered them at 16K for better scaling fidelity. For curent games it's a bit overkill but there are a few that already demand a lot. Doom Eternal already rides 9GB and Final Fantasy goes just under 12GB. Next gen textures possibly 8K ones may really fill VRAM fast.
@@Skylancer727 let's hope the upgraded model doesn't come out in 6 months to a year. I'm not that patient while I'm stuck with a 1030.
I had a 1080 and bought a 2080 ti in June of last year... Cause I got the Valve Index VR Headset and the 1080 was pegged in some games. I also have the Alienware 1440p ultrawide.
Everyone selling off their cards only for the 3080 to sell out in 10 minutes and then not having a card at all
I mean, they could get like a used RX 570 or some really cheap value card for the meantime. With it, they could lower the res and settings they’re used to to be even more amazed when they get the 3070 or 3080. For example, they play on like 1080p medium to high ish settings depending on the game, then in a few months, they can crank it up to 1440p or 4K high and be amazed with the difference because they got used to playing 1080p lower settings.
I wouldn't expect to get a 3000 series card until November, this is like the 10** series, due to the increase in performance everyone will be looking to upgrade 3060 is going to be brutal. I seriously hope they build up a lot of stock. 2000 kept selling well, but the thing about those cards were they ended up in non-gaming machines.
Pretty much nailed it
@@ilovehotdogs125790 pretty much, had a meeting at work a couple days ago too and we were told by our logistics team that we will be sold out of cards and in store til at least March 2021

Dark mode, more like gray mode, it's the lightest shade of grey I've seen in a dark mode, please consider an additional OLED dark mode and perhaps changing the hue to be blueish (like Twitters dark mode) as that would fit the floatplane brand better.

From what I remember, going from nine-hundred to ten-hundred, was quite a jump due to a real change in architecture with features that really helped out with VR games. Then the ten-hundred to twenty-hundred was another jump in architecture with quite big improvements to the linear mathematics that are used in machine-learning (which helps with DLSS), and it introduced hardware that's specific to ray-tracing. Then we had a small hop to twenty-hundred "SUPER!!!", which was mostly an increase in core count. And, now we're having another major jump to thirty-hundred, which is supposed to run-over the twenty-hundreds.
I'm going to miss Linus when he eventually retires, but ya bois are great, I can't wait to see what directions you two take the show.
So when Luke is in Linus' place the intro works perfectly. Good to know!

Hey, an electronics engineer here ✋, technically the old signalling was not straightforward binary but NRZ line coding and PAM-4 is a bog standard modulation scheme that's been around for ages. PAM stands for Pulse Amplitude Modulation, meaning that the information is transmitted on a carrier signal by varying its amplitude. Hence, the "4" means that there are 4 levels, meaning that each amplitude represents 2 bits of information because with 2 bits you can represent 4 different values. Disclaimer for the nerds: of course if encoding, scrambling, interleaving, etc. is performed before the modulation stage, each level doesn't necessarily represent 2 bits of actual data.
There was a concept keyboard that had movable keys that could be set anywhere on the base to have a key setup however you like, the keys sent wirelessly to the base when pressed and was powered by the player actually pressing the key. It was called the "Ergodex DX1 customizable keyboard" AFAIK it never made it to market.
riley's camera was overblown out of focus and out of sync, *classic riley*
PAM4 has been around for awhile, but this might be the first time I'm hearing about this outside of the networking world. It's used some in 200GB ethernet, and is used extensively in 400GB ethernet and 800GB ethernet. Looking forward to this becoming the norm.
IIRC either 3G or 4G uses it too..
Rtx 2080 ti buyers reaction to Nvidia kzhead.info/sun/iaeHmN56eWSXgI0/bejne.html Meme :D
It’s used extensively in the backbone, more of an interconnect between distribution hubs
PAM4 is pulse amplitude modulation (should be keying in place of modulation because it's digital signal). 4 stands for 4 different level for all combination of 2 bits(00 01 10 11)
I'm going for alternating upgrades. Got a 1070 when it came out, then last year did the rest of it - the power supply and now I'm geared up for the 3080.
The more I found myself spending $$ on my pc, the less I actually played it. It becomes an addiction to hardware and benchmarking in the end.
yeah dude, is sooo annoying when there is somithing new, you convince yourself that you are fine with what you have, but you know is better and you just can't unsee it... first you r happy with your console at 30fps but then you discover pc gaming at 60fps and then you convert, you are in the top of the world, but then there is 1440p144, and then 4k240hz, and raytracing, and low latency mouses...etc people tell you "well, buy what enough for you", thats the problem, enough isnt enough for me, its an endless nightmare.

I can perfectly hear Riley imitating the classic line "No. I'm with the SCIENCE TEAM!"
I got a 2080 Super about a year ago, not unhappy at all. It's been treating me well. Main reason is that this card will carry me well until the "RTX3000 refresh" cards come out, what Super cards were to 2000 series. That's when I will upgrade. A lot more games utilizing the "new level of horsepower" will be out (with many appearing on sales), drivers will have matured, the usual.
Luke was so proud of his watter bottle modeling. It's ok, so were we Luke. So were we. 🎩👌
1:22 Nintendo has been around for more than 130 years lol. It's Mario that's 35 years old.
from what I recall the star wars toy found to actually detected facial movement while claiming to read brain waves... as far as actual brain-computer interface, EEG has been in use for a couple decades with significant success. a quadriplegic has been able to operate a computer for over a decade now, initially with sensors in a hat, but from what I read they have progressed to a sensor implant that is surgically installed in the skull (bone). The last I saw the most advanced subject was supposedly able to manipulate a robotic arm, or interface with the computer in full words faster than a "average" typist.
Going to wait for the 3070 before I make the decision. I had a 1070 and never felt the need at all to upgrade to the 2 series, I did just get a 28" 4k LED gsync/fsync monitor, now I need the video card.
"To all my Pascal gamer friends, it is safe to upgrade now"
Ya.... this 3000 series or AMD RDNA 2 will out preform anything on the market now. Sell your card now to enjoy better cards later.
Waiting until Team red has played their "cards" on the table before I take a deal. lol
Same here. I am waiting for navi 2 and zen 3 processor
Team red's in the consoles. Team green is trying to beat that to the punch. Either way wait for independent reviews
The thing is, at best AMD will have equivalent (or slightly less powerful) cards for slightly cheaper, as usual. If, against all expectations, they do have something better, it’ll probably be lacking in features like shadowplay and any kind of image reconstruction like DLSS. In both cases, it’s very unlikely that Nvidia would drop prices if that’s your angle. Even so, the card most people should and will be getting is the 3070, and its release date means that wether you want it or not you’ll be waiting for the AMD announcement.
Violet any idea of when AMD is announcing theirs? Maybe right before the consoles release?

Was using 780ti before I bought 2080 super, it was literally at its end in any case ^^ Was annoyed with the sub 30fps on most games I wanted to play. All in all, will keep this gpu until it reaches the end anyway. EDIT: I mean, I bought the 2080S near the time of its release, because the performance I was having with my 780ti was dogshit, aka stutters/rly low fps. Moreso a response to those "hah you bought a 2080", "you should have waited"...like nah, price wise it was 150-200ish off the 1080 and I realllllly needed a new GPU. Sorry for the confusion.
Yeah it’s good to be content with what you have and try and maximise its use! I’m 2 1/2 years with an iPhone 6s and 5 1/2 years into using my laptop. ~$1000 Lenovo Thinkpad still going strong!
Sorry what 30FPS? yeah that’s not a card issue even at 4K it’s not as low as 30 you either have a severe bottleneck or something ain’t working as intended unless you’re referring to the 780ti performance
What games were giving you that 30fps trouble?
You need a high end CPU to handle the video card power, or else the CPU will bottleneck the system and you could not use your video card to its full potential. I guess you still have a low end CPU?
@@theuprising2216 Obviously he was talking about the 780ti performance, that's why he got the 2080 super.
56:50 That actually sounds like a million dollar idea. Every keystroke slowly but surely powers an external battery you could use for what have you.
I'm personally super hyped about the new 30 series cards and I can't wait to replace my 1080 ftw(I didn't jump on Turing 'cause I wasn't comfortable spending all that money for not that much performance improvement) but I'll wait anyway a couple of months to see all the benchmarks and if the new RDNA2 gpus actually will be worth and if we'll see some TI or super variants with more vRAM. I'm especially curious to see the benchmarks and reviews 'cause for the first time in my life I think the reference cards look the best(I'm always been partial to EVGA but the design for this gen look hideous imho)

29:39 Luke and Riley forget ROG Rig Reboot exists
Reflex is nVidia's response to Radeon Anti-lag, will be interesting to see if there is an actual difference..
AMD does have similar GPU software features. They have the Radeon Anti-Lag, Boost, Chill, and Image Sharpening. Anti-Lag has a similar effect as reflex. Boost dynamically changes resolution to boost performance when you don't need defined visuals. Chill is more or less a frame cap with the purpose of not having your card work harder than it needs to, thus saving heat and power. Image sharpening functions as a pseudo upscaling, similar to DLSS, but without the machine learning.
17:48 "It (Turing) was definitely a huge jump in performance, was it not?" Aaaand now we know that Riley never actually plays any games. (That's the nicest way of putting it.)

@@KiDmO365 At launch it was basically a dead heat between 1080 Ti and 2080, literally 2-4 avgFPS difference between them in non-RTX games at higher resolutions (you can check back to the Gamers Nexus 2080 FE review, though later they did get some boosts from driver development), with the 2080 FE having a $100 higher launch price. Apart from the RTX stuff, there was absolutely no reason for a 1080 Ti owner to even consider updating, the cards were fundamentally equal in normal situations. It took until the 2080 Super before there was any real noticeable gap, and even then only the ~10% gap you mention.
The wan show has turned into Luke having scripted conversations with others.
Lienus putting some work huh

It’s James writing the scripts, I’d assume. Do you need anything better?
@@burkskurk82 Damn so he is really that bad?
Hay guys love the show and all best wishes to you chaps and all of the team we never see on the videos x
The issue with the 20 series was the price increase. A 2080 had the performance of a 1080ti but also cost around the same or more than the MSRP of the 1080ti.
The out of sync audio vs lips triggers me timbers lol.
Just returned my 2060 KO gonna bit the bullet and buy 3070
I'm currently running a 1070. I'll most likely upgrade to a 3080, but that all depends on how Big Navi compares, but i don't expect it'll be as good as 30xx. at the 80+ level.
i bought 2080 Ti when it came out and will use it atleast up to whatever come after ampere/3000 series
I have 2080 with hdd for my games and 1080p monitor at 75hz...lol Its a work in progress
I mean, even if you can’t see the high framerate, you can still feel it. Input latency is way more delibitating than a relatively low refresh rate monitor. I tested it by putting mine as low as 50hz during a pvp match.
If at least you know it sucks and you need to improve it, good for you. SSD is priority.

Yeah, I've a 2080Ti and I use it to watch KZhead mostly. Well, I actually got it for Nier Automata, but in the end, I've issue playing the game as 3D RPG makes me a bit dizzy. I even upgraded to an ultrawide for improved field of view because i heard that helps and... it didn't, at least not much.

9:0 that's me too :( first time i had a good card "2070 super" and, nvidia went yoloooooooooo few months later with the 3000
I've bought the RTX 2080Ti, and I'm keeping it! At the time, in Portugal, the diference between the 2080 and 2080ti was 300€...in a 6000€ system, it was not a major issue...
I was hopeful for RDNA 2, aka big Navi. But now I'm just worried for Radeon.
Nah, this just means amd will have to somehow outdo nvidia, which would be quite the good thing for us. If amd does outdo then nvidia will come back again, benefiting us even more
Imma torb main Exactly. It’s a win win for consumers no matter what. The beauty of competition.
Imma torb main I’m pretty sure the only segment they can outdo Nvidia in is price. Like what they did to the Vega gpu’s they dropped the price like crazy just to be somewhat competitive
They’ll compete with price to performance, and come up lacking in terms of pure performance and features, as usual.
If you have a 2000 series and didn't sell it before the announcement... F
i wouldn't change anything. Nobody with a brain would have bought a 20 series in the last 3 month or even more concidering we all knew quite easely that a new series would be coming with minimum research. Meaning thoses who buy 20 series are retard who don't do research, and to them: you can still them it today since the 30 series is still 404 on any and all marketplace until 17 september
@PointBlank200 ??
Yep the 2nd hand market has completely crashed on 20 series. EBay has loads of 2080ti founders sold in the last week for less than £600. However I remember the 10 series doing the same immediately after the 20 series launch and then steadily those cards went back up in price. I sold my 1080ti for £600 5 months ago and got a 2080ti FE that was an open box return for £800 so not overly miffed with the 30 series pricing. Will hang on for a bit to see what AMD comes up with and if the 2nd hand market stabilises.
man i wanted to hear Linus talk about the cards
The easy explanation of the new cuda cores is pretty much work the same as bulldozer . They are paired up with shared resources.
I have GTX 1070 8GB , I will wait for (RTX 3070 SUPER , RTX 3070 Ti) which will have 16 GB of VRAM ! I don't think 8 GB VRAM is enough for future proofing. I know that GPUs performance isn't measured by VRAM, but Remember a new games (next gen) along with new consoles & new PC hardware, this will allow to push graphics much further !! (maybe need more VRAM) Lenovo lists NVIDIA GeForce (RTX 3070 SUPER) and (RTX 3070 Ti) 16 GB GDDR6 www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/joao-silva/lenovo-lists-nvidia-geforce-rtx-3070-super-and-rtx-3070ti/ www.techpowerup.com/271676/lenovo-lists-geforce-rtx-3070-ti-with-16gb-gddr6-memory hexus.net/tech/news/graphics/145177-lenovo-lists-gaming-pcs-geforce-rtx-3070-tisuper-gpus/
Keep in mind that games overprovision VRAM sometimes. They’ll gove you a warning about insufficient VRAM but still work without any stutters due to running out of memory, because they actually don’t. Another thing, what you lose in total capacity, you gain back with a 20% higher bandwidth. Plus, RTX IO will definitely pick up the slack when VRAM usage in games actually pushes up past 8gb. Also, the 3070super is most likely a typo from Lenovo’s end. However, the 3070 is definitely gonna be a thing.
Take that rumor with a gain of salt. Nvidia will most likely release a 3080ti with the same GPU as the 3090 but with 12gb of ram instead of 24
I imagine that PCIe 4.0 will play a huge role for those not so big VRAM capacity cards in the near future, because internal bandwidth of the card won’t help if you can’t pull resources from main memory fast enough to compensate for low VRAM, plus direct ssd io through PCIe
Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Super with 8GB of GDDR6 memory. Looks like Test Games was assuming both would have the 16GB of VRAM. But even then, we can't guarantee the same good price point anyways. Nor can we really say the Super will be that much better when it will have the same GDDR6 memory as the 3070. Only time will tell. Me personally, I will be getting the 3070 as it will be a massive upgrade to my 1060.
@@igoresque i think that pci 4.0 is only necessary when you play 1080 on 240> i think (and saw on tech channels that ddr3.0 is fine if you play 1440p or 4k because the lower fps you have the less data you have to send
I have a 1080ti now that I'm going to replace with a 3080 when they come out, and will still be using my 1080p 60Hz TV that I'm using now.
@ILUZIONIST Right now, even with a 1080ti, some games with maxed out settings will get 30fps with vSync on or about 50fps with vSync off but i hate tearing. Also I do some rendering but not enough to make a few minutes matter.
I play a lot of games at ultra/high settings on 1080p/60hz with my 1060 6gb, but w/ a pretty beefy (but dated) cpu I was given... it’s probably a cpu bottleneck if you’re not totally blowing that monitor away w/ that kind of card.
@@Sassacracklepop I got an OCed 2700x on water I just like to abuse my system with super high res textures and shader mods. Minecraft java goes from 250fps to 50fps when enabling raytracing and texture packs for example.
I've got a 3440x1440 120hz monitor and my 1080 struggles super hard most of the time. I'm excited for the 3080, and i'm definitely getting one. I'm glad I never gave in and bought a 2000 series or a Radeon VII. I can't even play games too well on my 4k TV. This will solve pretty much everything.
The 2000 series didn't hit home well because they priced every tier identically to the equivalent performing Pascal card, so for a given amount of money the ONLY extra thing you were getting was Ray Tracing. It turned out most people didn't care about ray tracing. Then the flagship had a monumental price-hike up to $1200, and it only turned out to be 20% faster than a 1080 Ti. It wasn't until the Super cards were released that the performance increases over Pascal were present at each price point. Oh and fwiw the 3080 doesn't support SLI. They're restricting it to only the 3090. Which is frustrating, because it's the xx70 cards where SLI shines, but those cards haven't supported it since Pascal.
51:08 I love it when my favorite tech KZheadrs promote companies who try censor reviewers.
This needs more likes. If anyone doesn't know, what that guy is talking about: GamersNexus did reviews and tear-downs of MSI's RTX2000 series cards when they released, constructively and rightfully critiqued them and then got called out for it by MSI (if I remember correctly) and is now also on MSI's blacklist, so they'll now have to buy their graphics cards to do reviews on them and won't get review units. Yeah. Guess, which brand's graphics cards and motherboards I'm never buying again. Fuck you, MSI.

Riley's Video is delayed to his Audio. There's about a 1000 millisecond difference. (give or take 500 ms)
The thing that really sucks with the limited time run of the Super Mario games is that I don't have a Switch and can't find one for a reasonable price. Add to that the fact that there's apparently going to be a new Switch console probably next year (I don't think Nintendo has made a public announcement yet but they have reportedly told investors they'll be releasing a new system with 4K capabilities that's compatible with current games and NVIDIA did just recently make upgraded Tegra chips).

is anybody else really trying to go AMD only, but can't get past AMD's trash graphics drivers?
rek just for reference, the xbox series x has 13 RT TFLOPS, the 3070 has 40. It will probably be more affordable, but nowhere near able to compete in terms of graphical performance, at least just based on raytracing performance. Although I doubt even with RTX off it’d be able to either. What would really hurt consoles tho would be the lack of image reconstruction of any kind. Nvidia’s big advantage imo is definitely DLSS, even if it’s currently not very widespread. But it will make all the difference in raytracing enabled games.

I jumped from the GTX 970 to the RTX 2070 Super and I felt there was a great leap, and all my games basically ran with 50-100 more fps, and that was despite me upgrading my monitor at the same time from a 1080p@60Hz to a 1440p@144 Hz. Granted I don't play any games with Ray tracing, so that wasn't exactly the reason i bought it.

I guess scrapyard wars is dead, but you could do a similar competition, where you get a budget, but one specific part is fixed; like you have to have a rtx 2070 or something, maybe its provided up front or you have to find one and its just the gpu that counts, so if you get a high tier overclocked card you might be able to win or if you dont you have to get a good cpu or good value.. might be interesting 🤔
