Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is a Western-themed first-person shooter video game, the fourth in the Call of Juarez series. Announced at PAX 2012, it was released on May 22, 2013, via PlayStation Network, Steam and Xbox Live Arcade. Unlike its predecessor, Call of Juarez: The Cartel, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger returns to the traditional Old West setting and features three unique game modes (story, arcade and duel) while the setting is the life story of a bounty hunter named Silas Greaves.
"It's the only game in the series that doesn't take itself so seriously" Until you're getting close to the end, then it's just FEELS.
Yeah.. the game has a great story, great writing overall and VA
right on
Oh death .... Ohhh death ...
While the franchise maybe dead, it ended on its highest note.
*may be
GmanLives maybe*
@@cheeseboi588 *may be. "may be" is a verb phrase, "maybe" is an adverb. 2 different things.
per_petual *maybe
From that I know , Chrome 2 is next after Daying Light 2 .
Gunslinger surprised the hell out of me, especially considering it's launch price. Damn fun shooter.
Sup bro!
Yeah, mah man Rabbit agrees!
Its
@@GggmanlivesI just looked on cex a game and technology stor and this game isn't on the 360 gunslinger is only for pc
Borderlands + Red Dead Redemption = Call of Juarez: Gunslinger
Makes me wish it was Open World
Yeah open world would be great.
It's an arcadeish shooter not an open world RPG.
@@rayyanali4471 It's got the skill tree, so technically it's an RPG :)
@@thomasfernandez6580 Skill tree doesn't make it an RPG. It's also not much of a tree.
5:17 I have heard, that by the laws of wildwest, whoever drew their gun first was considered a criminal. So the whole point was to draw second, but to kill first.
Thanks for posting this. I found it strange he didn't know this, since it should be pretty much common knowledge
Well...i get that its a joke, but if you killed anyone, in any way , you were of course considered a criminal, it worked pretty much like in modern time. (unless its in self defence).
@@axelwiden-thulin9423 no, i wasn't joking, just expressing a rumor i've heard at some point. Let me explain how things has been put to my understanding. You're absolutely right, kill is an offence unless done in self defence, and that's exactly the case here. In a situation of a duel, as soon as the other guy drew his gun at you, he's considered a murder attemptant (is that a word?), therefore, from that point, you could freely drew yours to defend yourself. I hope i've explained myself better this time :)
Gunslinger definitely seems like the best of the bunch based on your reviews.
Gameplay and Talk I still think bound in blood is the best one
Also, it has probably the best aiming on gameplay I've seen in a game. The movement t/acceleration curve is flawless.
Yeah, you’re lying. You must play trash games your whole life because this game has the worst aiming ever and if that means that the whole series has aiming worse than this then the series itself must be trash. The story can be good, but the game mechanics are garbage.
Easily the best game in the series, in my opinion.
Yeah, dude. I love this game.
For sure!
I agree
Agree m8
maybe im just a masochist but i found this game had so much potential but i felt it lost to the original because there was no challenge whatsoever, the combination of the lightning fast regeneration and the fact enemies just sit behind cover taking potshots rarely applying pressure or being aggressive meant i had to play on true west to get any challenge and even then i didnt feel like it was all that well designed challenge, aside from the duels. if you dont care about challenge and just want a fun tongue in cheek power fantasy romp then thats fine, more power to you, but i like challenge and that sorta ruined it for me
You should review 'Gun'. I found it to be one of the better western games out there.
Mr. Mojo Risin' its in Steam sale right now for 4 bucks or so
I'm looking for something like gun but, you know, not hella old. Seems red dead redemption is the closest call, but alas, I don't have a console...
Gun is one of the most underrated games out there. It always sits under the shadow of Red Dead Redemption. They even had some big name people doing voices, like Thomas Jane doing Colton and i think if i remember correctly Tom Skeritt did Clay
Gun was first western game I ever played. It was great.
yeah.it was one of the best game i have ever played
Absolutely loved Gunslinger. Didn't play the others but this was a perfect experience for what it set out to do
Gunslinger is easily one of my favorite FPS games of all times. The art style and presentation is great, the story is very light hearted and funny and Silas is a very likeable character, the shooting is great and the gameplay is really fun. Oh and the music is fucking amazing (Track 075 being my favorite). The only faults I can think of is the weapons limitation (as in you can't carry two sawed offs and two revolvers or the shotgun and the rifle) and the duels (which aren't bad per se, but they could be better). But even then, I beat the game a handful of times and did pretty much everything (True West, all stars in arcade mode, won all duels honorably). Hell, I'm reinstalling it right now, thanks Gman
I wish they did more with the series. Super fun and addictive gameplay that they pulled off in quite a unique way. I havent really played anything similar since! Even though there are tons of FPS games out there, nothing came close to the feel of these games. That smooth, fluid shooting, mixed in with arcade elements (combos, points etc). So much fun. It's a shame the story/campaign was so short. Would have been cool to play as a fully maxed out character, and actually get to use all the skill points on an extra chapter or 2. But anyway, still a rare gem of a game.
This is one of the best games I have ever played. Loved it back when it first starting going on sale because the series was dead and I still love it.
You can never spend too much time watching Quentin Tarantino films.
Unpopular opinion: Yes you can Inglorious bastards in particular was one of the least eventful and downright dull films I've ever seen. It has 4 seconds of action and the rest is talking about how awesome some action would be.
You sure you watched the right movie? Tarantino has it's downs but Inglorious Basterds is really a movie full of tension. The dialouge and some scenes are extremely powerful without a single gun being fired. It's not an action movie. It's a drama. They don't talk about how awesome action would be, I don't even get what you mean. I think you expected some From Dusk Till Dawn kinda gorefest from a war drama with action elements? If you think the scenes in that movie are the dullest you've ever seen you really don't have a taste or appreciation for good filmmaking. The only thing you find fun and interesting in a movie is action or what?
Rip Paula Schultz
QT is a so-so director, just so-so
Come on now, the duel system in this game is pretty streamlined in this one.
It's true, but it's not that bad.
Im saying that as a good thing, the first one was barebones, the second was absolute garbage but this one was pretty good.
trabuco9 The first two were pretty fun in my opinion.
Great review, I always like seeing your reviews of games I've never tried. Your last few reviews have gotten me interested in this series, especially this game.
The gunplay is so satisfying.
Wow, this game looks absolutely fantastic. It's tough to sell me on an FPS game these days, it's that impressive.
Been waiting for this all week. Always look forward to your reviews man, thanks.
can`t wait for the next series review. i really liked the way that you choose to pack the whole series together, great job. cant wait for the 2016 end of year review
Man I still need to play this game some day, it looks fantastic! Great review Gggman. This was an awesome little review series you did.
Some of the best reviews on KZhead, well done mate.Keep it up!
"Basically what Blood Dragon did to Far Cry 3" I'm sold.
Silas Greaves one of the best gaming characters ever.
Having the level change with the narration is a pretty awesome concept.
SPOLIERS: Moments like when Silas goes to the toilet, when he is almost drunk or when he starts to sing are one of the best moments I have ever encountered in a FPS game.. and when you unclock the ability to dual wield shotguns, oh boy, then the best fun of any modern FPS game really starts + Great written story and dialogs, great artstyle, fantastic OST and gameplay make this definitely the best game in the CoJ series and it's one of my all time favorite games.. and don't forget that this game was from the start only for 15 Euros ! And please, we don't talk about Cartel, ok :D there are only 3 CoJ games and that's it.. what? never heard about The Cartel.. did you? No ? So that's that :D And about the duels, I love them and it isn't about who first draw his weapon which determines who is playing dishonorable - if you draw your weapon before the GONG sound, then it's dishonorable.. if you are fast enough, you can be the first to draw the weapon, but it's not dishonorable only if it's after the GONG.. so I think it makes total sense that if you aren't playing it fair, that you are dishonorable :) both of you need to wait for the GONG - if you don't wait for it, you are cheating.. so why do you have a problem with that Gggmanlives?
I thought it was an awesome story. But I don't like how most of the levels have nothing to do with the plot. The 4 main levels than advance the plot are: The one where you find out about Silas' brothers' deaths, Grey Wolf, the second to last level, and the Finale. The rest just feels like padding.
What gong noise? I played all the duels honourably but this meant that waiting for them to reach for their guns. The game specifically said when they draw their weapon. A noise was never mentioned.
Michael Biland It's kind of the point, since the story is about pointless revenge and murder.
These were great reviews, they really hit the nail on the head. My thoughts on this series exactly. A flawed first game, a strong second game, a garbage cartel and a very refreshing gunslinger.
Awesome you put this out so fast, i was really looking forward to it. Gunslinger is by far one of my personal picks for the best Western game, even if the laythrough is so short. But i'd still put it right under RDR.
I can't believe that you have only 60k subs, your videos are great.
Do you think you might cover that cowboy FPS codemasters published a few years ago? Forgotten the name, but it's pretty well influenced by wild wild west.
Gun ?
Gun isn't an FPS maybe he's thinking about Damnation, tho it isn't an fps.
I am literally trying my damnedest to find out what game you're talking about. No game Western game I've come across on my quest seems to be published by Codemasters.
Darius Tatu Yeah, it's Damnation I had in my head.
I personally like this game's throwback to being funny old west and it's art style
outstanding review. as always
The since of accomplishment with the duel system to me was pretty good. Especially when incorporating the tricks. Felt like a real bad ass gunslinger when I pulled them off. The music was amazing
I like how they weave together the narrative and the gameplay. It's both funny and creative.
Great video as always.
My MOST favourite shooter ever when I want the pure almost arcade cabinet-like feeling of just shooting in a video game. The excellent narrative is a huge plus.
Just picked this up on Steam, I love the art style so much
Nice work, I wonder what spooky shooter games are out there for this month...
One of the very few fps games I played, got to the end and just replayed it again. Damn good, not very long but is so well made
Bought this in preparation for you review and smashed it over a weekend, thoroughly enjoyed it. Strange that the only thing CoJ related to it is the name haha.
I recommend skipping the other difficulty levels and going straight into this on the Hard difficulty setting. It really isn't that hard but actually manages to pose something like a challenge, which to me made it more enjoyable.
Best soundtrack in the series, IMO!
Great review, Triple G.
Just found out that I have this in my Steam library, gotta play it soon
Dude you should do Darkwatch. I’m telling you it’s like a perfect mix between horror and the Wild West.
Dude, I was just about to say "Hey Sonny Jim, do a review of Darkwatch!", but you already did it for me! I just really, REALLY love the mix of supernatural horror and western. I know a lot of people would find this heretical, but I don't really find the western genre very interesting....by itself. HOWEVER, when combined with other genres, it suddenly becomes a hell of a lot more fun, which is why I love games like Darkwatch (Horror+Western) and Wild Guns (Steampunk+Western) and movies like Sukiyaki Western Django (which just combines Japanese anime bullshit with Western).
I got that one too
I keep hearing this game was alright and this review seems to confirm that. Nice.
Great review I love the series played all the games. The best is the second one.
Great review as always GGGman. I have a few suggestions if your interested. Would you ever consider reviewing any of the Elder Scrolls , Arma or Portal series'? They're all pretty good games in my opinion. All flawed but very enjoyable. I would like to hear what you think of them.
Never played this one, but as soon as you compared it to Blood Dragon you had me sold. That was easily my favorite game in the Far Cry series.
Another great review, ggggggggggggggggggman. So good that it suddently made me recall the good old "Read Dead Revolver". Will you ever take it into consideration (and make a fan happier than he already is at the same time)?
Nah, mate. Sorry.
the duels are pretty hard in this game. its a neat idea having to keep the circle on the guy with one stick and your hand above your gun with the other stick while also getting your timing down, but in the end i just didnt like doing them
One of the few shooters (maybe along with Bulletstorm) that I can describe them as *"Jolly Good Time"* . Doesn't takes itself seriously, doesn't compromises on the action, and doesn't overstays it's welcome. An easy recommendation as a standalone game.
best in its series and probably one of the good Wild West FPS we got.
very good review
This is been my all-time most favorite Western shooter since LucasArts Outlaws and dead man's hand in the middle.
This was one of the first games I played on my freshly built gaming pc back then and I was blown away by the visuals. The game was a ton of fun and I thought it was under rated even when it was new. Nobody remembers it now.
I do...
Thinking about getting it on Switch. The Wii had a great ninja-western sword-fighting / shooting exclusive Red Steel 2, which was awesome, or at least my memories of it make it sit high and safe among my favourite shooters ever.
Gggman, will you take a look into "Duke Nukem 20th Anniversary World Tour" when it comes out?
Definitely.
Looking forward to your thoughts on that, Gggman!
and how about Shadow Warrior 2? Would also appreciate that^^
Do you really have to ask?
great review as always, but have you ever considered reviewing fighting games?
No.
Recently finished this, a fantastic product in the story-telling department
This series needs a remaster or another game… it looks so god damn good… (i haven’t played it yet) would you recommend I buy this game let alone any in the series, I’m a huge fan of western games, RDR1 and 2 I’ve sunk more than 2000 hours at least and I’ve been looking for more cowboy games to satisfy one of my favourite childhood eras.
Gunslinger is a great game! I like how serious it got at the end of the game. I found it quite affecting, and I wasn''t expecting that given the humor of the parts leading up to it. [Spoiler]----- I love the barkeep, Ben, aka Roscoe "Bob" Bryant, that he's the character what done Silas wrong. On a second play-through the tit for tat between them becomes a lot more grave as the context is known by the player. The ghost battle in the graveyard, the themes of killing and what it does to the killer, be he justified or not, I just think it's really well done and I was glad to hear your recommendation, GMan!
one of the only FPS-es i've ever truly enjoyed. i loved the story retelling stuff and Western setting.
Hi gggmanlives. For more Western themed FPS you can look out for Dead Man's Hand and Western Outlaw: Dead or Alive.
So do you prefer this one or Bound in Blood? Also you should review Techland's old game Chrome, it's not very good, but it had some interesting elements
I prefer this one.
I bought this game on sale for some measly price on steam shortly after release and it definitely gave me 5 or 6 enjoyable hours, and ran silky smooth on old hardware.
I think something I really loved about the game that despite it's more modest ambition compared to it's predecessor, it offered a lovely collection of options like turning off the scoring, crosshair & even the duel-UI all entirely individually, so after giving the first level a go and going "I like the action, but trying to refine my combos is proving too distracting from the narration", I just switched 'Points Visualization' to 'Arcade Only', adjusted my duel-setting accordingly and just went on a gunslingin', headpoppin' & dynamite-throwin' adventure as the better-than-expect tale played out! But you can also do entirely the opposite and turn on all the numbers you like, but just empty the 'Narration & Movies' Audio Slider slider (Which is even separate from Speech so you don't miss battle chatter, etc) and be all about that score-rackin' action. Plus, it's so easy to config-edit to your best comfort including FOV & viewmodel FOV (A range between 80-110 degrees horizontal), the letterboxing can be turned off outright and other tweaks to visuals, something Bound in Blood needed a mod for (Although I dropped trying to play it for myself when some visual effects just made playing the game far too disorienting, even if I give the game positive marks for the story). Here's the friendly PC Gaming Wiki article to find them: pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Call_of_Juarez:_Gunslinger It's a shame that Pawel Blaszczak's soundtrack composed for the game itself (He does re-use music from the past games notably from Bound in Blood with very appropriate use & restraint) never got sold, as he had some real good listening to offer (One of the Chapter Complete themes was a real "Stop & let loop" delights: kzhead.info/sun/gpmafMl9ZKmdYK8/bejne.html). All-in-all, it's one generous package that may surpass it's predecessors in charm & polish, and one bloody good wild-west game!
You need to check the Codemasters´s weird steampunk Western the Damnation. It´s technically bit wonky but it´s quite unique game it´s own way and I really liked it.
Holy fuck you got like 500 subs really fast nice bro
Free on steam right now, has good reviews, never heard of it before but hey it doesn't hurt to give it a try
Yeah that's why i'm here too. Who better to give the lowdown on it than the G-Man.
@@johnny5805 ikr and hey I played it myself last night, right after I put that comment up and the game's got me hooked
are you doing another Mod Corner anytime soon? I love those episodes
Yes, soon!
Just bought this game cheap, looking forward to play
The story was a cool homage/deconstruction of the western genre and it's a fun shooter.
My favorite part about this game is how the collectibles contain information about real western outlaws. I'm a history buff so it was cool to learn about Billy the kid and Butch Cassidy outside of the movies
Thanks, I think I'll reinstall this now!
I’m glad to see I’m not the only person who enjoyed this game
I'm going to get this game, Bound in Blood, and I'll admit I'll get The Cartel if I can find it for $5.00 USD on eBay or somewhere else online. Thanks for your reviews. :)
Hey Gggmanlives. Gal*Gun: Double Peace just got on Steam. It's *totally* a shooter, therefore seems like your cup of tea. Can you do a review of it?
Lol it actually looks kind of fun.
This one looks heaps more appealing than the others. Added to the wishlist.
One of my fav FPS games of all time. I always have the film Tombstone playing in the background when I play this. Really wish they would bring out another Dead Man's Hand. That was a fun little game but oh so flawed. Good ideas in it but the execution left a lot to be desired.
All these years later, and it's still the best western video game of all time. That's not an opinion. That's a FACT.
This game is my all time favorite western shooter.
One of my favorite
I found that they still work on Hellraid (not dump into trashcan like they did with Warhound or Chrome2), hope they make it because their zombie games are boring.
The narrative conceit is extremely clever, especially to allow all the gameisms the game has. Great game.
I won't have it said that I left you with nothing, boy.
Loved the game and duels were by far the best in any western I played.
Gggmanlives, i was wondering will you make a review for the mass effect series?
No.
answers just like your reviews, straight to the point with no bullshit xD
MIX Gaming That's how I roll, big boy.
I don't play fps shooters much outside of my half life and bioshocks but this game is genuinely great for me.It's the defination of satisfying.
one of the greatest shooters I've ever played
After seeing The Magnificent Seven Remake (which was awesome BTW) I really wanna play this game again.
Best cameo by a future US president.
Gunslinger is so damn fun and man I want to see Techland make another Western game.
Yes, the campaign is short, and yes, it's a very standard first person shooter, but it's a VERY FUN standard first person shooter. Loads of fun, and yes, the last couple of duels (especially the last one) are very hard to do honorably, but I still loved it. Hell, this was the first game where I finished it on the hardest difficulty.
WonderMedia / wMTF2 The final duel is pretty easy, just pay attention to which opponent is looking at you.
got this on a PSN bundle that included both CoJ Gunslinger and Far Cry Blood Dragon best buy ever
What I like about this game is that you can turn off those score number, I'm glad they gave player the option.
You should do the witcher series and the mass effect series, just one time and then go right back to reviewing fps
This game on the wii was AMAZING
its 2020 and i still play this
The ending is pretty good
