I BOUGHT MY FATHER THE FIRST TRACTOR HE EVER OWNED -- 1947 FERGUSON TEF 20 --
Something a little different in todays video, the first tractor my father ever owned returns to the farm after over 50 years. Its not the original as i simply couldn't track it down but it's the same year and exact model. The Ferguson TEF 20. This made his day, so join us as we start a new series on her restoration.

So after the video went live we got an incredible amount of message with advise and parts, it’s simply unbelievable to see the following people have and there kindness to offer there help, there are some truly great people out there and we thank you all. We also found out that our Fergie may in fact be a 1953 and not a 47. My dad reckons he possible has the dates wrong but is 100% sure it was a diesel. We’re still very happy with her and can’t wait to get started hopefully in the coming days.
My grandad was a agricultural mechanic he’s worked on hundreds of them and all old tractors he reckons the tef was in fact made in 1951 and that alternator is a dinemo the back wheels are off of a Ford and the back wings are off a Massey 35 but he says it’s a grand tractor we have a few masseys and he doesn’t like going to shows to see new painted tractors he wants to see tractor that have worked !!!
Are the back wheels not off the tvo 20???
@@masseymadgalway4613 no think Ford 300
3000
@@charlieboy4472 ask him for sure. The Tvo had the full round dish Sam as what’s on that tractor. Ford 3000 is same as 35/135/diesel 20. 👍
If I see an old tractor that's too clean (trailer queen) I walk away, but if I see a well cared for machine with years of proud history on show through the many battle scars it wears it has my full attention... I cannot wait to watch the rest of these and see your vision come to be.
Unreal Adrian, I'd say you'll need to get farmer Phil and Father Phil down for a day once the restrictions lift a bit!!
my father still did field work with horses. Then the tractors started to arrive. he said many a farmer ended up in the ditch screaming whoa! whoa! like they would for the horses. lol
as a 10 year old this was the first tractor l ever drove after a while l used take the milk to the road in the churn and bring back the empties thanks for the memories
Your a great son
Diesel was first introduced in march 1951.Bundy bears shed on you tube is a great channel for info.
Fantastic. As a 17yrs old kid i used to drool over our neigbours T20.
Yep you used the word kids. Roll bar ! Cant believe there aren't more commenting on this. Good luck with the tractor watching in wrong order but enjoying.
Best of luck with the restoration, nice to have something all the family can get involved in.
Lovely thing to do Adrian, look forward to the resto vids!
Nice project to have. Especially with the history of having one on the farm. Love that. Super 👌
My first tractor I learned to drive on.. I was nine.. In the 1983s I loved that yoke great memories. Drawing in the hay. Topping loved it. Happy and simple days. Makes me wanna go out now and buy one now

Fair play to you Adrian, what a great project to do with your father 👍. Absolutely love the channel, keep up the great work👌👍
Well wear. Something exciting to get stuck into getting it right👌🚜💪👍
Great little tractor 👍 you should put this in a playlist
Beautiful tractor adrian, looked like a 135 yesterday. We started out on a Ferguson te20 then a power major then a ford 2600 and a ford 4000 and quicke 2000 loader (which we still have today) lovely gestureto your father adrian.
@IFarm WeFarm I recently saw an old car that a guy had lightly sanded down the rust & then clear coated over the top, he wanted to keep the "patina" but wanted to protect it from rusting any further, the effect was amazing & people was stood taking photo`s on the roadside.
Super tractor. Good luck with her👏👍
I wasn't too far out lol..it's a lovely wee fergie and it would have been a great work horse back in its day.
Nice project for you and your dad enjoy it
Brilliant video, great to see the real stuff.
Lovely little grey fergie! Great channel!
Fair play to ya Adrian, great little tractor. Daddy's diesel 20 is still at home in the shed waiting to be restored. My older brother is going to get it done. I think of my father every time I walk by it. Can't wait to see how the project progresses.💚
I'm really looking forward to seeing your progress on tractor. A friend of mine got a little 35x, he actually put a clear lacquer on the body, it keeps the look of vintage and protects it.
Can't wait to see you working on the t20. 👍
Great project to have. You are an all rounder ! Good luck with renovation. Ps . Boss man looks well and healthy . Your a chip of the old block !
Best of luck Adrian would love to have time to do a restoration maybe in the future 👍😀
Lovely tractor can’t wait till it’s done

Lovely tractor Adrian. Lovely thing to do for your dad .I got my dad first 4x4 back last year nissan patrol 1990.the look on his face when he saw it .brilliant
Great to see a ferguson TE20. I own one myself, there a fantastic little tractor. Great for doing odd jobs here and there.
Class wee Tractor, and the first Tractor i ever drove, used to top fields with a mid mounted finger bar mower, loved it, great stuff!
Hello from Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Canada. Great show’s thanks for sharing with us. That was my father’s first tractor also.
Hi Adrian, it’s nice to see your father involved and ye both doing a project together especially for your father. But don’t take for ever to get it restored and running, the tractor will be around for ever. Life’s short, make the most of it.
Adrian you have to get farmer and father Phil to come to you and make a great video after covid. I love them auld yokes great to see them being looked after.
Hi love your channel. Definitely think a visit from father phil and farmer phil would be good crack and father phil is a wealth of information
Just showed video to my dad. Same yr as him self. Been talking bout them for last 20 min n remembering the one they had in 50s that they converted to diesel. He was pretty sure was a Ford n series yesterday. We repainted our 94 7840 last summer so maybe a more vintage project this summer. Inspired now.
Adrian, Phill is right about the two batteries either side of the back end below the seat. Donlons in lanesborough county Longford will look after yr engine if that suits you. Thay were a good,, handy to drive tractor around a farm yard. Someone meaning sompting about the diesel tank on it. The tank looks perfect except if there is a hole r two with rust. I was brought up on a farm that had one r two Was my first tractor to drive Good luck with it, enjoy. Thomas.
Congratulations Best a luck
First tractor I ever drove. We had 2 of them, one was a petrol/paraffin the other a diesel. Brilliant wee tools they were, they did all the jobs your big tractors do nowadays 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hi Adrian Nice old tractor I like the look too you should fix the rust and clear coat it it will look so cool 👍👍
Nice old little tractor 👍
Adrian some great vintage people in Wexford also for information when you get going on the project.
Best of luck with the tractor project 💪💪
Looks good best off luck with restoration 👍
Don't paint it, lots of painted ones and not many in their working clothes, its had a long life and it tells a story................. Hope it brings your father lots of pleasure, whatever way you go. :-)
Nice Adrian...I love old tractors. Specialy MF. I grew up with them. And like you said...don‘t overdo it. It is an okd tractor, it doesn‘t have to look like new. Would love to help you restoring it.
Well wear & good luck with the Fergie 20 project 👍 I used to drive an odd one 20+ years ago when my boss used to do up Fergusons, we used to make some parts for them including the headlight brackets, battery boxes & TVO tanks. A nice tractor to take for a spin on the back roads on a fine day with no cab. I still see an odd one when I'm taking pictures at Tractor Runs in West Cork. Looking forward to watching your progress with it over time 😎
Is a lovely idea what you are doing for your father are you my heart
WOW Adrian, this is a true labor of love. This kit is two years older than me and needs more work than I need. A little scary to think about. Bet your dad will really enjoy this project. Best of luck. Thank you for sharing. 🐄🐄😷👍
Great thing to do Adrian. Great memories ahead for you, your family and especially your father. I restored my fathers MF 35X and Fordson Major after he passed. I really wish I had done it much earlier. I now have a few others, ( MF 65, 135, 165 and 185) and they all do an honest days work when required, but are mostly used for pleasure on Vintage Runs and Rallies.
I sense a collaboration with father Phil coming , looks the job and fair play lad
I was going to say the same. I would think Father Phil has a world of information about it.
@@1corecut that man is a fountain of knowledge in fairness he’d surely know a thing or two about them
@@TheLad22 he owns 2 of them doesn’t he
@@iwillbehaceman5321 I think he’s got a 20 tvo and 35 diesel I’d say if ya traced back thru the videos you’d find out
@@iwillbehaceman5321 he got 4 I think
Check oil pressure when hot! And cooling system test for head gasket leaks ! Enjoy and good luck . Great project will bring great memories! Thanks
Hi Adrian she is very straight as mentioned before Dunlop spares in the north are very helpful and owatrol oil is the way to go protects it and keeps it character 👍
Keep up the good work mate
I was looking at the very same Ferguson on Done Deal! and the following day I seen the add taken down. Glad its gone to a good home, best of luck with it!
I bought an old TVO (1949 I think) at a farm auction in the 70's. The sales hand showed me how to drive it, as I was jumping all over the field changing from first to second to third (as in a car). Finally I got the drift, and drove it home 20 miles along the main A5 in Staffordshire, a big grin on my face. I'd just got the lease on an old farm and was starting from scratch.
Great video Adrian
You're bringing back some memories there lad.... we had a few of them as I grew up. All of different conditions but every single one did a shocking amount of work - as will yours again soon I'm sure 👍🏽 also.... you're dead right buying it exactly as you did. There's no hiding what you have there - I wouldn't want one covered in new 'lipstick' either
You can also get most of your parts from an QTP stockist or then can order them in for ya doing a diesel 20 up myself at the moment
Beautiful well done
Love the original look of that tractor Adrian. Preserve rather than restore I'd say but it's your tractor and I hope you and the dad have a great time with it. Well wear.
Awesome project
Yet again adrian another great video i myself bought a tef 20 for my young son when he was just born and completely refurbished it from top to bottom it was so enjoyable to see how it went it turned out after all the hard work and many many hours i loved every minute of it, i am now thinking of buying another 1 for my other son all the very best to you and your dad on doing your new project up .👍👍🚜🚜
Best of luck with it Adrian. It's a fairly original and straight looking one. Bonnet always tells the tail of how they were treated. Starter looks orinigal the pinion probably gone and teeth gone in it. New looking dynamo so just needs wiring. Get a PTO cover cap for it as the PTO is always spinning on them to work the lift assembly. The gearbox is made from aluminium that's why the difference in the color. Needs a pair of stands to. But the majority of other stuff you mentioned can all be fixed up yourself like brazing the holes in tanks etc. There a lovely little tractor o to restore and work on.
Great little tractor Adrian I’ve got one myself that need some work doing on it but at the moment I’m working on a Massey 165 . We still use are Tef 20 now and then just to give it a run out but also it great just to just drive around the fields on a nice summer evening.
Well done Adrian. I have one exactly like yours, an early one as they didn't have a diesel lift pump, also in its working clothes. Agriline are a great source for part and the have good diagrams in the catalog. All the best and I look forward to following the work on the TEF20.
That tef 20 will look the bees knees when finished well done.
Great purchase Adrian, you will enjoy working on that with your dad and will have something you both can be proud off. Me and my dad rebuilt our old 165 and I would not part with it for that reason. Good luck and keep us posted on progress 👍
All the best with the restoration Adrian. We had a similar tractor long ago and have wondered where it is now.
What fun.
Look forward to seeing it be Done up😎😎
What a lovely tractor lad👍
Great buy Adrian 👌🏻 two more KZheadrs who’d no doubt help you along with Father Phil are @LordMuck and @Cowfarmerdan two genius’ with vintage machines 👍🏻
Class video Adrian 😀
You should put a coat of clear lacquer or some sort of a ceramic coating to preserve and protect the bonnet if that's the line your going down. There's probably other solutions too but once it's protected your sorted👍
I just brought a petrol TEA 20 a few weeks ago as a project for me and my boys to work on, it hadn't run in 10 years but after a few hours she was back up and running, they've loved driving it around since, even my 5 year old! I look forward to the updates
3 Te's in our family smashing machines.Clifford Tractor Part in Tralee County Kerry would have a lot of part for her.
Did a project on this tractor it was one of the first tractors with the 3 point linkage implemented in it
Nice tractor will be nice when done up we have a tvo nice smell of them
Yay I did think it was a little grey fergie, beutiful tractor
Did you once hear him say, "little grey Fergie?" T'is beautiful, isn't it! I was looking at it and with the rust you can't tell if it was red or grey. TEF20? Adrian, do you have a space in the shed for it? I know you are building a new shed. This is so exciting.
Just found your channel! Really like your TEF great looking little tractor. Friends of Ferguson well worth joining, there is a wealth of knowledge there and good for sourcing parts etc. If you know serial no and engine number can get an exact build date.
Nice one Adrian
Nice Tractor Adrian, worth watching barn find fergie by Jimmy de ville. They rescue an old tef 20, could be a good reference point for any missing parts etc
When ur doing the project seal, drop the hydraulic pump out as well. Even tho it is working. The old oil degrades and it will need cleaning. Easy enough done.
Great machine
Old but gold as they say!!!
Glad I guessed right. My dad also had an upgrade to the 165 then later a 265 with the lambourn cab. All from cartrack in thurles.
I think originally it would of had 2 6v batteries 1 either side of the seat . some people put 2 small 12v and you can buy a lucas cover so it looks like it would of back then. loving your videos.
Yeah you're right. My late father had quite a few diesel and tvo fergies down the years and 2 x 6 V batteries on either side was the original look of the diesel model.
We have my great Grandas 1947 petrol ferguson restored with the mid mounted cutting bar that came on it when new! The Big M of its day!
I seen them on videos lately, rare too so a good one to have for sure 👌👍
Might be a bit far for you but Drew Armstrong outside Fivemiletown/Clabby Co Fermanagh will do your engine... very good at them, that’s his speciality. I got a DB995 done with home some years ago, super job. 👍 good luck with the build, it’s a great pastime 👌
