Eyes: look pretty easy. Brain: Alright, let's do it! Hands: calm down, you two.
Thank you. Good presentation on basic concrete repair work in yard and garden.
If you haven't any lumber to form its edge, just make the cement mixture sticky but not too dry or not too watery and form the edges with your plastering trowel. Only if its up to 3 inches high.
I have always sucked at do it yourself projects. I do not think I have had even one turn out right. However, now that I found this video series, it is giving me the confidence to try again.
what these videos don't show is what to do when things don't go as planned. Concrete jobs can get out of hand if you don't know exactly what you are doing.
Perfect! Exactly what I needed to know and very well presented.
The sidewalk in front of my house is cracked and eroded after years of neglect. This video provided the exact information I was looking for. Thank you.
THE SIDEWALK ON LEFT SIDE MY HOUS IS CRACKED FOR LONG TIME. BUT DID NOT KNOW HOW TO DO IT. FORTUNATELY, I JUST FOUND THIS VIDEO YOU HAVE PROVIDED EXCELLENT INSTRUCTIONS, HOW TO FIX CRACKED SIDEWALK. MANY THANKS THE GREAT INSTRUCTIONS.
this vid was great. i saw all three of the problems i have and now i know what to do to take care of it. also, that spring is a horrible time to do outside work lol. that dang temperature diff. no good for painting of concrete!
Great video for those applications. But I need to re-surface my spalling concrete. Would really like a video for that.
We all want clarity in life, but rarely do we get it. When you deliver on what you say, just look at the appreciation. Well done.
Very good video. Straight to the point showing you how to repair various types of broken concrete. Really good.
Yer clueless!
Brilliant video, especially for a corporate outfit. Super-detailed and covering all the aspects of concrete work needed. Cheers, folks!
Paul Miazga it’s terrible
Actually this is not detailed at all
Great video. Keep up the great work. This video will save and make a lot of people a lot of loot.
Good work, Sir
Thanks for the good luck lowes home Improvement
Thank you for providing clear information. I was wondering how long do you recommend leaving concrete patching agent to dry before laying vinyl floor in the living room ?
Just saved me 4000 bucks! Thanks Lowes.
Thats how much a whole ass house foundation is
I didn't know about the bonding agent (glue). Thanks
I would recommend drilling and adding rebar in that complete sidewalk replacement as well. Concrete plus rebar is 10x stronger
totally. surprised he didn't do that
I know nothing, and I was also curious why he didn’t do that.
Just one rebar?
@@simd510 I’d recommend one towards each end drilled into the concrete then I would put another length ways and tie them together
@@elementalbioremediationinc21 Makes sense, Thank you!
Using a bonding agent called white glue first worked awesome for repairing my shop floor
On the “new slab” I’d put expansion material between existing concrete and new.
Thanks for tutoring 👍
I was looking videos like this. Thanks
Excellent video. Excellent host!
Very helpful! Thank you!
It would have been nice to see how all these projects turned out. Like the hair line Crack and the bigger one.
Great tips!
Thank you for the video
great thatks , I have new shutters put onto the side of the windows but the conrete is now broken on the side of the house is there a video to repair this ????? thanks
Educational.
This is actually really well made
Thanks!
Awesome and helpful video....geez, maybe I can do this!!!! Thanks Lowes and no, I'm not employed by them, just an old lady who likes things to look nice...
KAY COX correction - a nice old lady, who likes things to look nice. BTW, I’ve only added the word nice, I’m definitely not stupid enough to call a woman old. LoL jk
I've never seen a nice old lady carrying one of them concrete bags 🤔
Thanks for this helpful video. Gave me the confidence to DIY some bad spots I had, and it worked!
Excellent! Well done, Richard 💪
Great video🙌🙌

Thank you for doing this video. You saved me from paying for a new driveway
I watched like hundreds times; not for the content, but for the host - Good looking - charming - and love his voice..
Time to get off the internet and get a real life.
Get a room, you two. Lol
Try to repair a concrete floor slab that had pits in it and some crack. Used quick-settint cement patch. Followed the instructions to the tee, best I can tell. The patch cracked during drying.
far from a pro, but my guess is it dried too fast
What do you do for the curb on a driveway that is rounded? I have a small section like in your sidewalk repair (Not replacement) but I drive over it to get onto the driveway and it is curved. (Maybe a week waiting will be too long...) I need a curved form? (But I can't hammer in a form because of the street and driveway. )
QUESTION: if having to replace an entire section (because of excessive damage) along a run of sidewalk...do you need an "expansion strip"?
no. You only need an expansion strip when butting up against an existing structure like a house foundation that won't move with expansion. the other sidewalk sections have expansion joints (cuts or grooves) in them already so they should be able to absorb any movement of small pads like this one. If you're going over around 8 feet, you'll want to add expansion joints that line up with existing joints. You can do this with a jointing trowel or an edger, or you can cut the joints with a concrete or diamond blade saw after 24 hours. You'll want the joint to penetrate at least 25% through the slab, which is a 1 inch depth in a 4 inch slab.
I have a sidewalk that broke off between my shed and grass. There is a gap approx 4" wide and 4' long and 3" to 4"deep. How do I fill this in with cement?
Very professional
No sir that's a rookie
Outstanding
Is that a rebar or something on 4:08 ? Nice video.
Very informative Video and Holy Moly who's this guy? He looks just like Bradley Cooper!!!
my cement steps have a whole on the first step at the top. i have no idea if it can be repaired or how. could you give me advice?!
Thank you for this video - very similar to my issue. How much might it cost (materials and labor) to have this done for me?
Depends on size of driveway and your location plus if you need trees and roots removed. Probably 5-10 thousand for entire driveway. Patches much, much less. Getting the roots out that caused the cracks in the first place has to be done.
HUh gonna have to watch more... find the right one.. HOA had my driveway pressure washed because it was "too dark" and claimed it didnt look new enough. Now I have to use outdoor cleaner and have it pressure washed again twice a year because it literally turns black every few months - only ever since they first cleaned it. It sucks!
Not sure if this would help, but I believe that there is a sealer use. And should be applied after a power wash.
I’d move if you live somewhere so harassing for such a small thing
I have self leveling concrete I need to use on uneven parts of my concrete slab
Just a precaution, most self leveling compounds are meant for indoor use and to be covered with flooring. Traditional self leveling probably won't hold up in outdoor use when it's uncovered.
Follow the instructions on the bucket. It will be runny.
Am I the only one who finds cement very satisfying?
da_shotgunnerr no
It's called "Concrete" not cement cement is an ingredient that's added to concrete that allows it to set up and get hard........I bet every time you eat a piece of cake you don't say man that's was some very satisfying flour
@@starscream9683 HAHAHA haven't heard the cake/flour analogy before.
Heidi R What can I say I’m a thinker an I hate when concrete is called cement, so I came up with an analogy to educate people on what cement is, yeah not everybody understand concrete but everybody understands baking, and it just hit me cement is to concrete as flour is to cake, but nobody ever calls cake flour
Yes
Good video for beginners
How do you cosmetically fix the concrete AFTER it has been repaired? I have a white line of filler and it still looks awful. Help!

It’s easy just to watch, but don’t know if can do it.
How much space do i need to keep a sidewalk slab away from brick ., ( this is at a basement door , ) sidewalk is uneven , or should it be right up against the brick ?
Needs expansion joint foam
@@lilcreaper007 Ty, I never got to this over Summer guess i have to suffer with it now until Spring
All big box store videos look easy
To cover those small cracks or thinner cracks you use the cement with rocks or plain cement please
This might be 2 years too late but Cement is a part of Concrete, it's the binder. So if you need to cement something, you're just using the cement. Pouring concrete adds rocks as aggregate along with cement and some sand and is usually used like in the instances where he was pouring sections like the sidewalk. I hope that helps.
I just bought a house here in the city and I would like to know if anyone can repair and patch concrete surfaces on my driveway?
He makes it look so simple until you do it lol
LOL ain't that the truth.
I AM HERE THINKING THAT'S EASY AM GOING TO DO IT..BUT???
a goofy texting it sounds like grab the cement horns
I meant to say a goofy Texan grab that sucker by the cement horns?
Simple, not easy :b
How. to. repair. cracks on stencil concrete. driveway?
Can hydronic cement be used for a large walkway patch?
It depends, is your walkway already heated or has a hydronic system preinstalled? If not, we do recommend a quick setting cement for its superior bonding properties.
👍
My question is. I need to do this on an outside sidewalk. Are the boards easy to remove? They dont mention that. Like your pouring concrete to the side of the boards how in the world do they come off?
Let the concrete cure (hardend) then remove your form should be easy by then
you can add an oil type base to the boards so they pop off when the concrete hardens. sort of like PAM cooking spray is used in pans
Still need to know how to level a concrete porch
That doesn't look remotely easy to me. But for some people it's doable. At least what it does is make me aware of what I would expect a repair person to do if I hired them to level out the dip in my cement driveway. I bet you donuts to dollars it would be really hard to find anyone that would accomplish the job as nicely as this gentleman did in this video.
How about concrete stairs (on a steep driveway) that are not even. Also cracked.
Yeah but how'd you make that concrete white like the other parts of the sidewalk considering concrete is gray?
it dries white over time
You can purchase concrete paint. Comes in various colors.
Portland white cement
Will this same method work inside home also?
Are you talking about counter tops or repairing a floor?
@@DaDaDo661 would this work on cement floor inside a house?
@@rakajawaa5500 Yeah if you talking about a basement floor or something. It's called concrete patch
@@DaDaDo661 thanks!
2:02: why did you partly fill the crack up with water Lowe's representative?
It helps stop the existing concrete from absorbing the water from the newly mixed concrete
Purchasing Concrete!!? Make your own using the magic numbers 3:2:1 by volume, doing it this way you can choose the correct size Aggregate for your purpose. So lets go three parts aggregate you choose the size. Two parts Grit Sand sometimes called Concreating sand or sharp sand. One part ordinary Portland Cement or fast setting version. Now the bonding agent usually this is Builders PVA Adhesive or for a stronger bond and also to add some flexibility to the mix use SBR additive replacing the PVA. Doing it this way makes things far cheaper you will always have the exact amount of concrete for your needs, and as long as you keep the Cement in a dry place you can have concrete or brick mortar whenever you want it.
jas20per worst way to do it
@@AS-cu2rd HAHAHA. You had to be that guy huh.
ah yes a million people desperatley needed to know to how to fix concrete
Can you just use cement to patch really small holes?
They carry a concrete caulking best for that. The bagged stuff will just peel up.
0:57 adding that lumber under the slab… huge mistake!
That was sand
excellent love the bill clinton voice over
Wouldn't it make more sense to put the forms in before mixing the concrete so it's all ready to go
3:03 based on the consistency of that concrete you made a very weak mix!
Gatito buenos Adam
apply heavy and then sponge.. will look much nicer..
Like dab on it with a sponge?
i just monumentally screwed up a large dining table top by using the wrong type of cement. it was too big of a job and it started setting up before i was done mixing and pouring. it left me with a horrifically rough surface. Is there a leveling compound i can use that will yield a more finished feel and look? can i pour concrete over the top? any tips would be greatly appreciated. #rookiemistake
Use a diamond surface grinder. 4 1/2" right-angle grinder with the threaded diamond cup wheel. They're hell to get off once grinding. I propped a lawnmower blade in my wheel to get it back off the grinder. Rather than repour a slab for a driveway, I once used that to cut the edge down for a slope. Note, they make a 7" version too for larger grinders.
What was that music? It made me dance.
I know! I don't want to fix my driveway, I want to dance on it now!
You did not tell us what kind of concrete for what kind of fixing job
What about cracks that are now slightly uneven at the edges?
Doweling rebar into concrete really should be held in place by an epoxy resin. That bonding agent doesn’t seem like it’s going hold that piece of rebar to me.
Why am I still here
Because this is your home now. Your new home.
How do you remove or crack open the old concrete-is there a special tool?
You can use a rotary/hammer drill.
4:02 Probably should get the sand moist, then tamp it. Otherwise it's not going to compact right.
concrete repair
Hey Mr. How about you come do it for me....
If you wet the concrete( after setting or after a day) for couple of days with water spray, I would give more strength. It may be true for hot climate.
It got to 90° today. A micro burst came through and quickly cooled the concrete to 60° with rain. That popped a few of my patches up. I had to reform them.
All looks abit ruff to me...but hay what wood i know lol
You know enough
Video made by Lowe's to sell more cement to the amateur do it your selfer. They are not concerned with the quality of your workmanship
No sponge???? Lol
Been calling my local Lowes for 3 weeks, to find out if storm doors are in. Never once reached a person, and the phone at the project desk is usually picked up and hung up. I seriously hope they are not monetizing these videos.
how do we fix paw marks of a dog on fresh concrete dog walked on freshly laid concrete creating imprint in the concrete
Don't fix that!
at 4:00 that oil he uses, can I use vegetable oil? Can I use car oil?
An equal mix of vegetable oil and mineral oil work great.

Why he uses a piece of wood at 4:07, instead of sand as he says in the video?
What do you mean? The wood is for the sides. The sand is for the bottom
Prestia2011 look at the video carefully after 4:07. You see a wood or something else at the bottom just before he starts pouring concrete.
@@ranger5705 no that's wet sand. It looks like wood. It's moistened sand
