Since Israel’s founding, ultra-Orthodox Jews in the country have been exempt from serving in the military so they can better devote themselves to religious study.
Today they number some 66,000 but last month, Israel's top court effectively lifted that exemption, triggering huge protests from the Orthodox community.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government has until the end of the month to agree on a new conscription plan.

I can see why someone with a countertop understanding of Israeli society may say that. The reality is that the ultra orthodox are pacifists and the ultra orthodox parties, in the 90s, supported Oslo (two-state solution). You may be confusing the hareidi ultra-orthodox with the nationalist orthodox (some of whom call themselves nationist hareidi orthodox) who genrally take the extreme and hawkish positions you are thinking of.

These same people are among the most bloodthristy warmongers within Israeli politics. How convenient that they don't have to actually fight in the wars they all but demand. Ironically, because the Ultra-Orthodox neighbourhoods of Jerusalem are close to the Green Line, the Haredim are disproportionately impacted by stabbings and shootings from Palestinians who come from the West Bank.

So far, there's no much use of UN forces which are meant to keep peace at Israeli-Lebanon border. They even can't make Hezbollah move back the Litani river according, which Hezbollah must do according to international agreements

The rest of the world has provide the tools for Israel to be able to defend themselves. They also provide weapons and the the aid to help Gaza. Desmond Doss was a pacifist and he still served along side everyone as a unarmed field medic in WW2. In times of war, everyone has a duty to their home, if you don’t wanna kill people become a medic, engineer, mechanic, technician or some other non-combatant role.

Nor did welfare, unemployment, etc. That said, are they required to pay tax? If so, then they are allowed to access the entitlements they paid for when they meet the requirements. Now, those who refuse to serve in the military exclude themselves to legs up given veterans, such as education (GI bill), small-business loans, and gov't employment.

I am Israeli women I served in the idf, I served during the Lebanon war with hezbulh it was mandatory it still is. This is so unfair for us secular Israelis we have to give years of ur lives, we start to work and study on university much years later. We get paid a ridiculous a mount of money...the orthodox Israelis don't go the army, start their lives sooner and get so much discounts in everything, they have no duties but have so much rights.
Don't mention how fast they multiply.

he served in the army. not everyone in the idf or american army are on combatant service. not every single israeli who served in the idf was called on reserve. his younger son was field intelligence. cabinet member and former chief general of the idf gadi eizenkot lost a son fighting in gaza. its sure more than most of the islamists in the west who chant for gaza but find it sufficient to intimidate people critical of islam or "apostates" or hindus instead...

They could serve in logistics or other non front line roles. Fact of the matter is those people get a lot of special treatment in Israel, not just not being required to serve but also financially and taxes status. At least that is my understanding and I could be wrong in that.
As far as I know, they constitute the poorest group in Israeli society. Their salaries are sometimes even lower than those of Palestinian workers who work in Israel.

The military exemptions are for orthodox who study at a yeshiva (a religious school). So the orthodox community leadership really liked the exemption as a way to help increase enrollment in religious study over any other field of learning or economic activities. Their fear with the military draft is not the violence or loosing their children, is that without that exemption, their youth may decide to pursue a laic education because religious study won't shield you from serving in the military anymore.
well that makes sense from the leadership point of view - sounds like the leadership mindset will have to be worked on - perhaps as younger leadership comes through it might change - but not fast enough, the need is now.
I’d disagree. I think two reasons. Firstly, a large percentage of them fundamentally don’t believe in the current Israeli state being legitimate, and secondly they are entitled and have been isolated and pampered their whole lives so they feel they are better than everyone else. Why should they fight? They are better than the secular fighters.
the reason was because they had lost many rabis to the camps, but now their numbers are in the tens of thousands, this ins't about anti war, its because they don't want to be called to serve in the army, simple as that.

They want the freedom to practice their religion, then they need to defend that freedom. Freedom always comes with some aspect of personal sacrifice. My dad and four of his brothers were in WW2. They were Catholics, and they prayed and attended Mass. They prayed in the trenches, in foxholes, in hospitals, on ships, in bombers, and in submarines. God hears prayers no matter where you are. You don't need a big hat and special subsidies to have God hear your prayers.
