Building a Book Press (Kydex, leather, paper)

I built this press to help me in future book binding projects as well as leather and Kydex projects. What do you think I should build with it? Also for those who are asking, the threaded rod is actually just a leveling leg for a scaffolding. It works surprisingly well. Link below.

  • It didn’t take long to realize this project is way beyond my skill level. But it was so fun to watch, I stayed. Great job.

  • Nice press and great attention to detail. As for the Safety Sallies, in a few years their kids will still be in the house playing video games while your daughter will be working along side you in your shop!

  • An apprentice lol...this is gorgeous I've just started to make books so this was very interesting for me...I made my own press very small and nothing like yours but I'm happy...since I only do journals and make pads of paper it was easy to make.

  • Very cool press , I made one fifteen years ago for kydex pistol holders but not that nice as yours . Mine works great , will be using it for knives in a few months to finish out my 11 knives I started three years ago , had some medical issues to deal with , nice to see you trying to teach your daughter what it like to make something with your hands . Years ago real men used their hands to earn a living, computers are good but to make something without a computer is a real gift , nice job , enjoy your daughter they grow up fast !

  • This is AWESOME. I would love one. And ignore people, they all think they know everything and they don't. At least you spend valuable time with your daughter and she's learning wood working and will be an excellent builder one day😆. You should sell some🤷.

  • Bit late to the party here. Amazing project! Also a bit tired of the safety police. If they could have their way there would be no adults, no making of anything. Padded rooms and helmets for everyone! Thanks for making and sharing great content!

  • How about a book binding holder clamp like the one that hold the unbound leaves or sections so they can be cut/shived even.

  • Awesome project! I would love to learn how to make kydex holsters. Can I come over and use your press? Your press should do a much better job that the presses that are hinged on one edge and clamped on the opposite side.

    @JonOleOlsen@JonOleOlsen4 жыл бұрын
    • Of course. I've used that kind before too. I made one a few years ago and they work okay. I've always wanted to build one like this because of the parallel clamping.
