For long distance running I would recommend a mid-to front foot landing, heel striding will get your legs sore faster and is not good for your calfs.
Hell striking can wreck your knees, mid to front foot is indeed the way to go. Try to go for fairly flat shoes aswell.
Thanks for the advice, will use in the future
I tried this out the other day and oh my goodness my striding pace increased by 3 mph! Landing with your foot under your knees is the coaching tip that helped me understand
Yeah you should run on the balls of your foot (in the middle) for long distance
I got my hamstrings f*cked with heel striking. I really recommend midfoot strike.
You’re literally my daily dose of Internet
Bros daily screen time is 12:55 seconds 🤣🤣🤣

Same here
@@devon0910 bro no way your serious

Hey Ian, i was a varsity cross country runner for most of high school and for longer distances i had the most success with striking with a mid foot strike, almost a toe strike but slightly less aggressive. However if you are running slower than 8mins a mile heel striking will probably be more effective. Hope this helps, Goodluck!
mid foot ✅
A runner of the cross country variety
@@Stephenwonderboythat run time improvement is awesome bro
Easiest win in history actually killed me 😂😂😂 Ian, you are gonna be the new CR King no doubt about that ☝🏼
Yes!! My main deck for years. Thanks for covering it
I've been playing this deck for at least a year and I'm glad to see this type of video 😀😀
As for the running question, for long distance running i would recommend toe-mid foot striking to avoid cramps etc
Mid-distance runner here (800 and mile), I feel that a mid foot strike is probably best, as a heel strike usually means that you are overstriding and puts lots of forces through your feet, ankles and legs.
I've been playing this deck for 2 years and it's good to see it get some recognition!
''We're up against.. a Wanderer. He's seeking refuge but we are gonna send him straight back to the streets.'' BRO DID NOT HOLD BACK☠
Ian's intro's always amazing and more better with the music
Hey, congratulations on completing the 10k! I recently started running and I've been struggling more on the shin pain and bottom of my feet. Is that anything you had to deal with? If so how did you fix that or do you have any advice?
Hi Ian. For more speed on the start heel striking is better. Sprinting is the best on toes because the low time on the ground. Long distance should be mainly on mid foot, not heel or toes, midfoot. there are drills you can practise, eventually it will go flawless. You will never had back or knee problems again as well. Mid foot landing. You need zero drop shoes to do this, wide too box as well. Look at altra running's site for inspiration. Let me know if i can help.
I have done a lot of research on the foot strike and the front part of the foot should be used for long distance running, the way you strike your foot mainly depends on the speed and direction you want to go, not necessarily the length of travel. Heel striking gives more control so you use it to slow down and change directions faster but you also get no "suspension" effect from the calf muscles. The front part is great for speed and distance. It's like a race care (front strike) and jeep (heel strike) on a highway (flat, no turns) or off road (quick turns and rocky). The jeep can be used on the highway, but if pushed too fast it can hurt the engine but it thrives off road with lots of turns and good suspension while the race sucks off roads but shines on the highway.
A lot of recent research suggests mid foot strikes limit the amount of forces being applied with trough your feet, knees, etc up the kinetic chain. Also increased cadence (steps/min) has been shown to reduce injury rate with no hinderance to speed or energy efficiency
I need to try out this deck next season when everything is level 11 on path of legends 🙏🙏 Thanks for the vid
Very nice work, any tips against motor??
For long distance running, heel striking was a problem for me because I was overstriding, try to keep your front foot under your hip with a mid foot landing.
from what my highschool cross country coach told me, heel strike is more energy efficient at medium to slower paces
Bro, each of your videos is 10/10 entertainment! And your Intros - I love them... My favorite one is the Intro of the laughing emote edited with the sound of Ryleys laugh xD
I've always had a soft spot for Hog Exe, glad you're showing the deck out :)
You transfer more energy when you have near even force on ur feet and ur grippin wit ur toes. If you’re sprinting you’ll tend to be more on the front of ur feet, but you don’t want to waste any of that energy digging into the ground
I’ve been running for 9 years you never want to heel strike ever and for sprinting you want to definitely toe strike. For long distance just try to aim for the middle or slightly toe strike
Congratulations on the run
Good job on the marathon man 👍
You literally saved my interest in this game, I get better just by analyzing ur games🙏🏻❤️
As a marathon runner mid foot strike is best. Heel strike puts more stress on your knees and toe strike is good for sprinting but not for long distance running as you will feel stress in your shins. You can find great running form videos on KZhead as well
Congrats on the 10k run my guy!
i use mighty miner over valk, is that worse or as good since some matchups can be better with mighty or with valk
Heel strike is only for slowing down or direction change. Definitely stick to front foot strike for long distance running.
Nice to see a picture of Ian of the marathon variety
Hello Ian, I was a multi time league and section champion in both cross country and track and now compete at a D1 university, listen to no one else. Feet are in front of your waist. Toe striking means your feet are behind your waist, while heel striking means your feet are landing in front of your waist. If you was to both keep your legs healthy, as well as be able to continue long distances, you’ll need to use mid-foot striking. If you land on your heels with your front in front, you are slowing your own momentum down by pushing your body back. If you land on your toes, you’ll find you wear yourself out much quicker, which is why sprinters do this because you can maximize your momentum. It’s also rarely discussed, but extremely important you pay attention to your arms, shoulders and breathing. You’ll want to keep your hands lose, pretend your holding a potato chip that you don’t want to drop but don’t want to break. You’ll also want to keep your shoulder relaxed and dropped, a lot of beginning runners keep their shoulders high up and scrunched together, this will mess tire your arms out and upper body strength is actually half the battle when it comes to running. For breathing, if you don’t want to get a side stitch or cramp, you’ll need to ensure your not inhaling more than you are exhaling. It’s caused by too much oxygen in your lungs. The best way to rid of this is to do 2 inhalations through the nose, and 1 out through the mouth. It would be something like 2 quick sniffs to one long blow. Sniff sniff blow. Sniff sniff blow. It sounds weird but I promise your life will be changed. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Is there a specific deck i can upgrade that would always work and would also work on all trophy ranges (6000-9000)?
The daily uploads be hitting harder than midladder menaces
I’ve heard heel strikes are bad for your knees since you don’t have the suspension from your toes and ankles but toe striking for a long time do wear out your calves quite effectively, although I never went back to heel striking since finding that out.
Hey bro i use fireball instead of rocket do you think it's still a good deck?
for running really depends on how long and how fast you are running for exampel the majority of marathon runners rolls from heel to toe but any person running in track and filed runs on the ball of thier feet (no heels strike at all). Aslong as you dont slam the ground hard when you run you´ll be fine pretty much.
7:24 I like how you played Tornado here, very interesting play that I've never witnessed from pro players.
I'm a distance runner and I switched over to toe striking a long time ago. It relieves a ton of stress on your knees. Initially, switching over from heel striking will make your calves really sore but in the end it will make them stronger and keep you from extra stress on the knees!
Your vids always make my day better! Thanks a lot Ian
Glad you like them!
That opening meme with Ryley and the rocket is inaccurate. We all know that wouldve missed lmao
It was again a nice Video ❤ i wanted to ask you what is the best archer queen Deck right now, cause i just unlocked her?
The foot striking technique of the mid-foot variety works well. Don’t heal strike LOL otherwise ur gonna get injured. Especially if you’re running on concrete instead of something softer like the track. Toe striking should only be used with sprints.
How do you counter buildings (besides rocket) and Mega Knight?
Hey, Ian amazing video as always! I have quick 2 questions. Is rg lumberjack cycle with bomb tower instead of skeletons gonna work? ; Is splashyard with skeleton king tombstone viable in this evolution meta?
I'm not sure if anyone has said this yet but heel striking only works if you have a really thick and soft sole shoe specific for long distance running that can cushion the impact. Otherwise mid-toe strike is best.
Dude, you literally made me to download CR after deleting it a couple of days ago, as executioner is my favorite card so I just needed to try it with your deck😅
I've started watching your vids daily and honestly, they are amazing, I've learnt a lot, it's entertaining and it's just a good way to feel at ease. thanks IAN, you've become my fav clash royale youtuber❤
Great job on the running Ian keep it up!❤
Is there a viable giant skelly deck rn? I would love to see it if there is one. Giant skelly and skelly king are my favorites.
I run cross country and it mostly depends on how fast you are going. If you are going slow heel striking is probably better but if you are going a bit faster toe striking and mid foot striking is better.
Wait you were running the sf 10k too? That’s crazy haha, I’m sure I bit your dust!
All I know is when I was a heel striker I had constant shin splints. Some got so bad I couldn’t walk. I’ve had no problems of any kinda since changing my form
I play with my own execiutoner deck in mid laddr and its aleays satisfaying when he makes big area
*ian after barely winning* "probably the easiest win ever "
One of my favourite decks to play It's so fun to play 🔥
Toe striking is better for sprinting because you can use your Achilles tendon as a spring and push off of it for a boost, and you can also lean more into your stride with a toe plant. However it is much more strenuous on your calf, and so the heel or preferably mid-foot strike, which is more stable and sustainable for a longer run. I’ve only done one year of track and am by no means an expert, so correct me if I’m wrong on this.
I've been waiting so long for someone to show me how to play hog exe nado since it's my main deck and has been for like 2 to 3 years
this exe nado deck (mained by viper) is really good vs lava, e golem, golem
I also play it but it's very high skill since one mistake is pretty much gg unless your opponent is bad
I think it’s so smart that you make your videos in the mk thing so everyone sees this first thing when they wake up
I actually loved this deck and didnt hate to play against it when it was played more i used to olay it somtimes too
Midstrike is best but I mostly think about it more as having your foot land exactly in the middle of the body not in front of behind the body. Have fun running it's my favorite sport
5:26 he's most definitely mad and he's just tryna play it off 😂😂😂
I’d guess the using your heels is better for long distance but sprinting you definitely want to use them toes
Woo hoo! Congrats on completing the 10km marathon Ian!
Ahh yes ian77 back with the entertainment/breakfast content variety
Mid strike 4 long distance fs. In general I hear bad things about heel strike when running
As an experienced XC and Track athlete, for sprinting you should always be on your toes yes to generate the most force possible within the short distance you run. In long distance you should learn to hit in about the middle of your feet/front foot area. Striking your heel in long distance leads to shin/calf pain and can injure ligaments in your ankle which is no bueno. Don’t forget to research the right shoes you need for what terrain and distance you’ll be running! ❤👌 Edit: just saw the end of the video so congrats on the marathon!
Mid foot is ideal but usually you want to do what’s natural as changing your style without a proffesional coach can lead to injury
I can't believe you defended perfectly against that first player. Really good first match from the pov of a mid ladder player
Hey Ian I run high school varsity cross country. I run about 35-40 miles a week (about 5-6 a day) and I have the most success with a mid foot strike heel strike is for long distance like 10+ and toe striking is for shorter distances like sprints or the 400 meter. Hope that helps!
Ian is definitely among the top 77 best KZheadrs list
I've been thinking for a while now that this deck would shine in the current meta, especially since you can kill evolved firecracker )(and whatever they try to protect it with) using the exe+tornado or valk+tornado, but I'm not skilled enough to win with this deck.
Thank you for playing with my main deck
Heel strike puts a lot of pressure on your calves and leads to shin splints pretty quick, definately agree with the comments saying mid-foot planting for distance, balls of your feet are for sprinting since it helps you be a little more springy, but isnt sustainable for too long. 🏃
Toe strike only heelstrike lets the impact travel to your joints and back
Walking & Running should both be done with the middle of the foot on the outward edge. There's more surface area to spread the shock, the bone is condensed & closer to the ground and its close to the toes where the foot works as a leaver for the rebound (which is where the forward momentum comes from) When walking the foot lands a bit farther back on the edge & running is a bit more forward, but its only a difference of about an inch
Ian Tiny is the best variation of the "Tiny variation"❤
Wins with 1 hp. Ian: easiest win ever
Ian - "Pretty much noone plays this deck nowadays" Viiper - Hurls a Ryley Barrel at Ian :) :) :)
Heel striking isn’t good for walking or running it’s only meant for stopping your body when running but will cause stiffness down the whole chain of your body’s back and stuff and cause problems if you do it all the time so just toe strike as much as you can and your calves will get tired and sore af. Or midfoot to toe strike and end of stride
The picture looks really cool 🔥🔥
Love your videos man Keep going
that ryley on the rocket got me lmao
This deck struggles a lot against firecracker tho... i use it and I was really looking for some tips
ian can you teach me how to get out of grand champion.. my levels are only high enough to play logbait but i cant win enough with that deck
Ian's videos always makes my day
9:19 pig runner 💀 bro comes up with the wildest names lol
Keep going with your video and your strength Goat 😂💪
guy with the underleved marcher played pretty good actually
Sick gameplay and awesome photo finish! A real champion here!
Ian you should treat the 7x elixer event for a vid or stream
You never want to be heel striking as a runner. Toe striking is great for runs up to .5-1 mile. After that, you may have to mix in smooth mid foot strides, as running on toes for that long will get very tiring.
The Ryley on the rocket in the Intro was so random with the music 😭😭
Hog,evoFirecracker,Arrows,Bomb Tower,Ryleys,Valkyrie,Mini Pekka and Rascals This is my broken deck...Nearly counters every deck...Please make a video on that Ian❤️❤️❤️
Mid strike for long distance if u do heel strike it will hurt ur knees
Biomechanics student here. Heel striking will not only slow you down since the point of impact is in front of your body's centre of mass, therefore perpetually cancelling your forward motion. It will also have a greater impact on your knee joint and hip joint. However there are cases where heel strikers find success in their runs so try and find a running form that works for you. Its also worth mentioning that forefoot striking also impacts your Achilles tendon and calf more but that can be avoided with simple strength and conditioning.
Can you also play mighty miner instead of valkyrie
I want to try running too, maybe for 3 km first. Wish me luck
