  • I never throw out a good bolt, washer, or nut. In fact, if I see one laying on the ground somewhere, I pick it up and put it into my car. Not only does it save you from going to the hardware store, it can come in handy when you are in a pinch.

    • Will the cracked head smoke, smell like oil and overheat on the passenger side in the engine bay and smoke the cab out?? I have a 2000 323I that overheated and changed so many things. Could I have a cracked head sound like?

  • Use M52TU oil rings if you rebuild the engine completely. The oil control rings are a conventional 3 piece vs the 2 piece used in the M54. Another channel on KZhead (Elbow Grease) covered this, and alleviates the known oil consumption problem.

  • Check for micro cracks in the block between #3 and #4. My wife's 2001 E39 525 blew at 167k miles. Compression: 90-60-30-30-60-90. Sold the car to a BMW mechanic for $750.

  • Hello enjoy your content but do you still have the access parts that come off of the E46 engine when you broke it down if so I would like to get information on the parts that you still have for the engine

  • I’ve watched a lot of your MRE videos. But I have a BMW question. I have a 2003 Z4, what do you use or recommend to Jack this vehicle up?

  • Great video Nathan , like you got an apprentice now lol . Question??? I have what I believe is a slight chain slap on initial start up on my m52tu with 267k . Do you believe in replacing the chain tensioner (spring) will help this I’ve heard of a few people doing this , on flip side I heard it could put more pressure on very old chain guides could possibly break with new stiff spring . Your thoughts ?

    @chadriddle3517@chadriddle35172 жыл бұрын
    • Yes the tensioner is prob junk

  • They do the reverse to avoid the screws from backing out when the engine is spinning. That was a well abused engine - I will guarantee my '01 330i with 290K+ miles does not have mayo everywhere.

    • Have you done the vanos refresh with 290k? I have 1 with 267k and another with 205k have not done vanos rebuild on either . I have no rattle yet . Oddly enough in my m54 with 205k it has less low end torque than my m52tu with 267k so I bought the vanos refresh kit around $70 . I plan to do it soon. Wonder if anyone has done it with a noticeable improvement?

  • If it were a 99-2000, I'd say I know where there is/was an m52tub25. In my opinion, I like those more than the m54. That's me though. I did the DrVanos DISA valve upgrade eliminating the known plastic parts problems to aluminum. Never did the valve cover gaskets. I couldn't find a leak. All new cooling system. Cold weather CCV system. You might recal me mentioning however that by it's end, I had 20+ fault codes of course forcing it into safe mode. After research, the trans shift code 3-4 shift is common when attemting to drive to often in safe mode on the GM auto. Because my scanner couldn't read the VIN and evidence in the dcm box, the had probably been changed at some point and not reco figured to the 323i. Yes, I'm that KC neighbor. Sold it scrap $375. Was offered $225 1 year before that.

  • Very cool. The 2.5L m54 seems very simple. The beginning of BMWs Vanos systems. I have a question for you. For a BMW X5 n63 what coils and plugs would you use? For a standard 4.4l twin turbo n63 stock set up. There are literally 3 sets of OE/OEM that are also identical to the 3 genuine bmw sets to choose from. Should I use the Bosch ones, Eldor ones or Delphi ones. Eldor are the most expensive but the all seem ok. I have a slight misfire not tripping any codes but I want to do it all before I get any. Thanks

  • What causes the threads to strip? Bad overheating or is it just luck

    @scandaleux7915@scandaleux7915 Жыл бұрын
    • Can be both honestly with bmws. With my 2000 330ci I had for 4 years I never had an issue with stripped threads.
