  • + Good athleticism + Good vision as a ball carrier + Keeps eyes downfield when outside the pocket + Multiple arm angles + Endzone mentality ± Only asked to make simple reads (RPOs, one-read throws, specific parts of the field) - Hyperactive footwork - Rarely throws with an established base - Drifts towards pressure in the pocket - Slower release - Misses layups - Doesn't have "WR friendly" accuracy - Needs to protect himself more

  • Maye is an adequate post snap decision maker and looks to make the big play on every play or looks to run instead of taking what is there. 1:05 why not hit the RB in the flat? 1:40 why not hit the WR in flat after DB falls down? 1:26:39 hit the RB in the flat. He takes brutal hits due to adequate processing on coverage changes (4:25)(19:57) or blitzes (40:51)(41:56). He has marginal set up mechanics (16:47)-he is rarely ready to throw-making a decision than preparing to throw rather than being ready and throwing once decision is made resulting in late throws or throws off target (42:38 why leave feet?)(42:25)(1:25:05). Drifts in the pocket when not necessary (27:41)(1:25:28) (1:26:29). He has adequate accuracy overall and will miss throws that should be made leaving you scratching your head (1:26:14)(1:27:12)(1:30:02) than make the highlight throws with good arm strength (23:47)(43:38)(1:17:39). Good ability to go off script due to arm strength and good athleticism (12:10)(1:18:23). Good physical and competitive toughness (11:23) and looks to squeeze out every inch possible. FINAL: This offense didn't have the OL or skill positions players to run the intermediate/deep routes needed and Maye looked uncomfortable in the pocket. He needs a lot of work with his set up mechanics if he is going to be in a timing based offense requiring him to make throws on time in the pocket. He does make the highlight play with his arm strength and athleticism and should be in a balanced offense with heavy mis-direction and bootlegs until he gets more comfortable in the pocket. He needs development time and I would have a hard time convincing my GM he is a 1st round talent at this point.

  • I like the timing, the arm, the arm angles, the aggressiveness downfield, the accuracy (most of the time), the running, the size and toughness. This guy looks good. The mistakes are small and look fixable to me, and he's doing a lot with unimpressive weapons. Ok, I think I've been too hard on Drake Maye, now that I watch each play by play and not just the high lights and errors. He gets overconfident in his arm at times for sure, but that can also be reeled in and underlies a very strong confidence in his arm talent. From now on I'm going to have to agree with most of his fans and I see far too many high level positives to worry about his negatives. I only watched the first two games but from what I can see so far I would draft this guy high in the first round. Looks like he's going to be a very good QB to me, or at least has a lot of potential. Yeah, the media has "nit - picked" him a bit too much, I agree. 😎

  • He's definitely a playmaker and he generally protects the ball, but I'm coming here straight after the Daniels tape and everything he does is just slower than JD. He could totally take the Jordan Love route and be even better than Love! But why do that if you can pick Jayden Daniels? JD is better at almost everything imo. Maye is let down a lot by his receivers, but he lets THEM down more often with so many missed passes! If I had to pick JD or Maye to lead a methodical drive to win the game, while Maye has it in him, I'm picking Daniels for sure. Maye definitely has higher bust potential of the two.

Things I think Daniels does better: -footwork -release -scrambling(close) -slightly more accurate Maye is better at -arm strength -reading defense -protecting himself -deep ball -zip -strength -scrambling after contact and breaking tackles -size Daniels is better at things that take time and coaching. Doesnt do any of the talent things better than Maye. I have top 5 grade on Maye and late first on Daniels

We've seen a million QB's come into the league with "they just need a little more coaching" and it still doesn't pan out. He's got some pretty glaring issues to his game and he's incredibly polarizing (far from a consensus top pick). I think he's a trap prototype that is going to be very, very volatile. I wouldn't bet on it with the Vikings, Broncos, and Raiders all waiting in the wings, but there's a world where it happens. He's mid af, today, and needs A LOT of time to grow.

The offense he played in did not train him for the NFL. If he succeeds at the nest level it will require a coach & a fan base that is patient. I don't see him as a ready made starter yet.
