  • Great point that it’s unrealistic to expect a groomer doing 10-15 dogs/day to take on cases that require minimum 2 hours and up to 4 and 5 hours like some you’ve done on your channel. You’re so thoughtful!

    • My biggest problem with groomers is, as an older pitbull owner, I need a groomer who is willing to give my very well trained and not at all difficult pittie a chance. I don't need a lot of services but just someone who can give her a bath when she gets into something I can get off with a hose and my limited mobility and endurance can handle. I understand saying my dog has to be muzzled. I draw the line at sedation when you've never even seen the dog. I'm perfectly willing to be present throughout the appointment and if my dog is ever getting out of control that is fine I'll take her home. I still get flat out refused or get quotes of $500+ for a bath. Sooner or later I'm going to have to surrender my dog simply because I'm not going to be able to deal with something she got into on a walk and no groomer will have the decency to give her a bath at a price that isn't actual robbery.

    • I thought the same thing. Max's temperament was that of 'an old hat' at the groomers. I knew that Vanessa had the luxury of taking her time while grooming which the average groomer isn't afforded. It makes a big difference. When you are working under the gun & have a quota of grooms per day, you don't have the luxury of patience; it's a get-them-in-&-out prospect.

  • Ms. Vanessa, I just want you to know that I respect you so much for what you said in this video. You are one of the very few animal lovers who not only shows compassion for the pets you serve but also for the humans that are involved as well. So many people out there seem to equate love for animals with apathy, skepticism, and outright hatred for their fellow human beings. But you help keep things in perspective, showing sympathy for the people who are having hard times instead of blaming them and holding pet owners accountable for their pets' behavior. Thank you for that maturity and for the self-reflection. I appreciate that just as much as I do the transformations you give to these wonderful animals. I have absolutely no regrets for having subbed your channel. You're amazing.

Having that said, I appreciate you always giving people like us shout outs and encouragement, and giving your viewers realistic expectations on what to expect at a groomer. Before I came across your channel (about 6 months after you launched it) I didn't have an inkling of what groomers do. Through the years you've taught me an astonishing amount about pets and how to handle them. • I have to say that your videos helped me to improve my at home grooming. I have a westie who is full terrier personality and she lets me know when she isn't liking the grooming process. Since she is pet only, I opted to not hand strip. This is because her spunky personality and extreme strong will let me know from a puppy that she won't tolerate hand stripping. The coral slicker brush has been a big help with getting the super fluffy under coat out. And the fluff off is so amazing at helping to control shedding and keeping her coat so soft and tangle free. Granted about 5 minutes after she is off the grooming table she magically transfoms from a white dog to a tan, brown, or green dog (depending on what she finds to roll in and dig in), but those five minutes are glorious. Please note West Highland White Terriers are no cuddly lap dogs. But if you live in an area that has mice, rats, raccoons, and even skunks, these micro menaces will do a great job of keeping them away. They are very trainable as long as you keep it interesting and don't try to train after they decide the session is over.

  • Vanessa, your content and skillful explanations are what make your channel THE BEST! It’s great that you are very humble, and give other groomers their fair due as well. I agree that pet owners should start early with grooming their pets. Btw, love your sense of humor, and your creative cussing .

  • The groomer I take my dog to is great! They love seeing her and put up with her grumpiness during brushing. There are lots of good groomers, but if people want to learn to do it themselves, check with local community colleges and centers for dog grooming classes.

  • You are extraordinarily exceptional at the job you do! You have made your job specific to your liking. Others are exceptional at the jobs they do. Vanessa, you made clear and very well founded points on what should be expected for a groomer AND a pet owner. I appreciate your comments. Even in your other videos, you seem to always give other groomers the benefit of the doubt. Again, thank you for a lovely transformation video. ❤❤❤
