i remember when i used to be a goalie and it was really hard at the end of the game when they were celebrating who scored i just kind of felt bad that i wasn't recognized. goalies are unsung heroes.

The role of a goalkeeper is something special. I mean think about. It is the guy you call when everything went wrong. Everything that matters in this moment is saved or gone by decisions you have to make within fractions of a second. No tactics, no playing around, just responsibilty, raw instinct and capabilities. It is the hero role in football.

I wish that the people i know and that play would realize how essential and how skilled you have to be to be goalkeeper. Not everyone can make amazing plays like this. Especially for teams that I've played for, old teammates would tell me that each time I slipped up it was my fault, but then don't credit it me when I do make intense saves. They forget that it is a team effort, and not about how hard or far you can kick but the communication and teamwork that you need to be a successful team.

You will receive goals in games more often than not, it's not your fault. You will get footballs in the face, and in the groin. You will crack your teeth, break your fingers and toes. You will be bruised and bleeding, and you will cry. But it's all worth it, when you save your team's victory with one good action. Me being at 42 and probably in my last active season, a goalkeeper since I was 6, I'll do it all over again! Good luck!

It's funny because in other sports, there just isn't a position (other than maybe a quarterback in football) that requires such heroics in order to do the job correctly. The amount of heart that the best goalkeepers possess is unbelievable, putting their bodies on the line in order to change the game. In my opinion, a great save is far more valuable than a great goal.

Keepers never get the credit they deserve, the amount of training that goes into these players is amazing and the amount of skill, reactions and positioning it requires on top of how painful it must be having grown men kicking footballs at you, in my opinion, makes them the most skilled and respectable players on any pitch by far.

i remember when i used to be a goalie and it was really hard at the end of the game when they were celebrating who scored i just kind of felt bad that i wasn't recognized. goalies are unsung heroes.
Think about the times you made a good save and your defenders showed you love. It's not a fancy celebration like when your team scores , but the look in the eyes of your defenders when they realise you saved theyre asses with a world class save.. Priceless.

maybe goalie is not for you , a real goalie doesn't really care about being recognized by others. just the feeling you get when you made a good save is enough , so priceless.
I saved two penalties in a cup game as a 10 year old, the coached picked me up on his shoulders after the game and my team was going nuts. I was in tears. Those tears were for you too my friend.
The role of a goalkeeper is something special. I mean think about. It is the guy you call when everything went wrong. Everything that matters in this moment is saved or gone by decisions you have to make within fractions of a second. No tactics, no playing around, just responsibilty, raw instinct and capabilities. It is the hero role in football.

I wish that the people i know and that play would realize how essential and how skilled you have to be to be goalkeeper. Not everyone can make amazing plays like this. Especially for teams that I've played for, old teammates would tell me that each time I slipped up it was my fault, but then don't credit it me when I do make intense saves. They forget that it is a team effort, and not about how hard or far you can kick but the communication and teamwork that you need to be a successful team.

Its the opposite for me.. tbh, I think my teammates are more appreciative than any other people, i made a really good save and even though we were up like 4-0 they still congratulated me ALOT
Oliver Kahn once said, that there is nothing more devastating than your whole team turning their back to you, when you let a ball in. You are alone with everyone turning away from you. Even if it wasn't your mistake, it must feel awful.

I never thought so because I didn’t play football actively until 6th Grade and then I was *really* good at saves and even the others admitted it. My prime only lasted for 3 months however

I am crying right now, I used to dream to become a Goalkeeper but I knew I can't be one cause I'm short and weak. Seeing those saves encouraged me, I want to feel that too, the ball being stopped from entering by my hand, seeing the the opponents disappointed and the joy felt from my team that I do my job well. I love these videos. I just started as a keeper and I get discouraged by seeing people make goals, I know it happens sometimes and I need to get out of the mindset that not every ball can get blocked but I can’t help it, I want to be one of the best keepers one day and seeing these amazing people block these goals gives me so much inspiration

believe in yourself, train hard, never get words get into you and you'll eventually be a GREAT keeper.
You will receive goals in games more often than not, it's not your fault. You will get footballs in the face, and in the groin. You will crack your teeth, break your fingers and toes. You will be bruised and bleeding, and you will cry. But it's all worth it, when you save your team's victory with one good action. Me being at 42 and probably in my last active season, a goalkeeper since I was 6, I'll do it all over again! Good luck!
