  • Kyle, when you solder, you should make a physical connection between the wires before you add solder. Twist them together so they are pretty solidly connected without the solder. Solder is not a weld. It should not be used to provide the physical structure. It is more like electric glue. Just thinking of the damage to the engine that resulted from a failed solder joint, so hoping this helps in the future. Cheers

    • i'm a big fan of the western union linemans splice. it's extremely strong mechanical connection and when you solder over it's complete. I've never had one fail on me.

    • motorgarage 21 I've got Volkswagens, so trust me that's there for a purpose. Don't drive without it or you will break down and need it. I've put a 10k cubic foot snap on tool box fully outfitted in my 79 rabbit glove box for when I break down.

  • FYI a regulator/rectifier is actually a series of diodes with a heatsink which takes the ac current from the stator and changes it to dc so it can charge the battery. The stator is what is actually charging the regulator/rectifier just changes the sine wave back to dc.

  • Pull the pins out of the plug, run them through the frame tube, then put the pins back in the plug. Tip take a pic of the plug prior to taking the pins out. Also adding a big weather pack connector up by the switch panel will allow you to pull the panel out I the future without undoing all the wires.

  • The stator is what charges your battery. Most stators put that voltage out as AC voltage. The regulator/ rectifier converts that charge to DC voltage and maintains constant numbers. I didn't know this either until I bought my first motorcycle and it had some charging issues. This build is fucking sick though. I want to do one for myself, but I don't think a shopping cart would get along with me being 6 foot 7. Haha.

  • I dont know why everyone does it like that, but my dad is a mechanic and when you solder wires together he has always taught me to twist the wires together and then tin them, because solder is much stronger when the surfaces are weaved together. If you just hold the wires next to eachother they will always break eventually.

  • that back plate on the clamp you should get some pipe connectors that tie them down to the wood and hold them in place or PVC pipe that has electrical running up the middle anyways it bolts into that backplate you'll have and it has like two half circles coming off each side that would normally clamp down pipe except in this case it can go around the metal cage of the shopping cart they sell them in all different sizes

  • The stator is the charging system. That is what charges your battery and runs your lights. That produces electricity. The voltage rectifier just smoothes out voltage spikes and converts AC to DC .

  • On those quick connect plugs if u disconnect them and look from the back u can see tinny rubber plugs that keep the wire inside of the connector those little rubber plugs are designed to pop out just use like a tiny screw driver or a pick and pus or pull them out and u can pull the wire right out without having to cut or crimp or sander anything
