I will always prefer the idea that characters like Minato, Jiraiya, and Might Guy are just powerful characters from no name unimportant clans. I think it adds a lot to the whole concept the early series tried to set of your innate talent doesn't matter as much as your determination and effort that was lost by the end of the series

I always thought the idea of "innate talent" not mattering kinda falls apart immediately when one of the main characters has special super eyes and the other has unlimited chakra and a super powerful rage boost. If anything, Naruto as a story is all about "being born into power beats effort".
Tobirama and Hashirama are brothers. Their children are cousins. Their grandchildren are second cousins. If Tsunade was Hashirama's daughter instead of Granddaughter, they'd be first cousins once removed, removed being the technical term for a generational gap. But because they're both grandchildren of two brothers, they are second cousins. You're welcome.
Since a lot of Senju just married into various families in Konoha. I would not be surprised if Minato is a Senju in some way. Namikaze could just be those Senju who specialized in whatever jutsu Minato used prior to making the Rasengan. So i support Tobirama being his ancestor since a lot of stories follow with the idea of one dead character being reborn through their relatives lineage. Like Rengoku being reborn as a descendant of his younger brother. In thia case, Hashirama being reborn as Naruto. Keeping all Ashura rebirths in the Senju connection.

I actually find Minato and Tobirama quite similar physically, especially the haircut even though the hair color is different but decolored hair to blond isn't so different, it's still a very light hair color. For the eye color Tobirama was most likely an albino because of the red eyes so we can't really take the eye color into account, not even the hair color when you think about it. Tobirama could have been blond without albinism. Psychologically speaking though, those two characters couldn't be more different lmao.

I also think Kakashi's father and Kakashi himself are also from Senju Regarding Minato, I have always suspected that he is a Senju, especially since his son Naruto or the child of the prophecy Ashura, who throughout their existence have always been a Senju.I am not surprised by this because apart from the clans, you will find that approximately 75 percent of Konoha's citizens have Senju blood Or one of their ancestors from Senju, so you don't find the Senju clan anymore because it has become too big to be just a clan.

Kakashi has a trash chakra pool. Overall he really dosent have any good genetics. He is a genius at using chakra. While others needed to train until 12 years old like your regular genin Kakashi was already jonin level. Using chakra is just natural to him like Mozzart being a natural at playing piano from age 4.

Jiriya and Minato and Guy being from non-famous clans was always a bright spot for me in Naruto. Being great despite your bloodline was always more relatable than being a spoiled kid with with all the genes and connections. (i.e Boruto)

Namikaze means wave so maybe hes from "Land of waves" its located in a Konoha island.Senju probably proposed marriage to main clan in Land of Waves to strengthen their bond like the Senju did with the Uzamakis. Could be why they went to the land of waves on their first mission with kakashi sakura and Sasuke
I always considered the clans of konoha being descended from the Senju , going from the “ clan of 1000 skills” to clans focused on one specific technique.

I always find it weird when characters in anime seemingly have no family, for no particular reason. You look at something like A Song of Ice and Fire, and everybody's got families; huge families, with long lineages, multiple siblings, and often several generations of concurrent, relevant members exist at any given time
This theory also makes sense when you think about the Konoha symbol being a fusion of the Senju and Uzamaki. If Naruto is derived of both clans, it adds gravity to his love for his headband, his village, etc.
My theory is that all the Senju married into the clans and families that joined Konoha in order to reinforce the bonds among them but leading to more tensions with the Uchihas, that explains things like Moegi being able to use Mokuton.
This is actually stated. The Uchiha and Hyuga kept to themself to keep their bloodline pure and the senju spread their genes and increase the overal power of the village
yeah, but even though is kinda weird that there are no more pure Senju over there, I don't think ALL of them would like to be in breeding relationships with other clans, just like the Sarutobi clan, Akimichi clan, Nara clan, and Yamanaka clan who are very open to other people, are still in terms of their own lineage. I guess this is just bad wriing from Kishimoto.
Japanese handles surnames similarly to the west by the male primagenature, but when the child isn't claimed by the father they keep their mothers surname. This is why Naruto is a Uzumaki instead of Namikaze. I have hypothesized that Minato's mother is a senju related to Hashi/Tobirama, but he could potentially be Tobirama's son but his mom was preggers with him when Tobirama died.
It was to protect Naruto from his father's enemies.

Minato and tobirama are not the only people who know the flying thunder god. The leaf village had a whole squad of joinin who knows the jutsu as well as in the 4th great ninia war they had a teleportation squad using the jutsu. Tobirama and minato are the only MASTERS of the jutsu so they can perform it solo

I think the greatest arguments for them being closely related has to do with the fact Hashirama and Tobirama's part of the clan seemed to be much more talented than the rest, the timeline fits for Tsunade and Minato being cousins and Tobirama most likely being in his prime as a Senju in his late fifties when he had a child and this would actually add more evidence to how and why Minato is so talented, even if Tobirama is Minato's father (which, apparently Tobirama died in his sixties and Konoha was founded at least forty years prior to that?) If you do the math then if Tobirama died the same year Minato was conceived, this would not only mean Tobirama had a child in his later years (it's highly probable since he's a Senju, so it's possible even in real life some older people can have children over fifty to sixty years old), but it makes sense as to how Minato would've been born in the second great shinobi world war, Minato would've been around twenty-four to twenty-five at his death, so if Minato is fourteen in the one shot manga flashback with Jirayah and that was the end of said war, the third war would've only been around almost a decade long? At the very most, the war would've lasted eight years and Minato would've been twenty-two when inaugurated as Hokage, so he'd have only been Hokage for two years, maybe three if you think he was twenty-five at his death but it still fits in the timeline, Madara's official death was in his early to mid seventies, Tobirama at maximum is six years younger, so he'd have to have been mid to late sixties at his death because he supposedly is minimum thirty years or so older than Hiruzen, Hiruzen was in his late sixties at his death, Minato would've been around thirty-seven to thirty-eight during part one of Naruto, making him about forty in part two if he were alive and it does seem to add up, but then it's kind of weird to think in a technical sense that Minato would be Tsunade's uncle if he's Tobirama's son, making Naruto her cousin..but this also would make sense why Nawaki and Naruto look so similar, since they'd be in the same generation of family in a technical sense and based on genetics, if they're the same amount of family members removed they're bound to look similar, also generally if you're older, your children will look more like you..which could possibly explain why Tobirama and Minato look alike enough to be considered related, with Minato most likely having a fake last name..another possibility for Minato's other parent is that maybe she just so happened not to be an Uzumaki, but a Sarutobi? Minato is one of the few characters who we know for a fact has over five different nature types, Sarutobi were known for their talented Shinobi just like the Uchiha and Senju, so it's possible Minato is a Senju and a Sarutobi, it's not unheard of and both Sarutobi and Senju clans have people with brown or blonde hair, so it could've been a trait from either the mother or grandparent of Minato from the Sarutobi side if not from Tobirama himself.
Minato has five actually, and those are Wind , Fire, Lightning, Yin, and Yang releases which Tobirama also just so happens to have those five, and things like that can be genetic.
Cool theory dude, if we assume peak sarutobi genetic potential is someone like Hiruzen and Peak Senju generic potential being someone like Hashirama, it’s plausible to have someone who scales just as high as those two. Pending how you rank your hokages 3/4 are interchangeably Hiruzen and Minato and the rest sort them selves out. With this theory it does make me wonder though how much stronger Minato would’ve become had he been able to reach 40’s/ 60’s with the assumption that he was someone with a similar skill set as Hiruzen in reference to this chakra nature styles and he was a genius you’d assume he would also become some sort of professor and know all the Konoha jutsu at some point in his life on top of flying raijin, he would’ve been a truly broken character 😭
Honestly, every single Hokage has been a top tier in the verse at some point, usually being the strongest or top five in their generation, Hashirama and Naruto especially..I wouldn't be surprised if Minato at 40-60 years old is anywhere near a prime Tobirama or getting near Hashirama's level, just based on the fact each of the Hokage at around those ages are generally stronger than their younger selves aside from Hiruzen and maybe Kakashi, Tsunade's possibly stronger than she was thirteen years before the start of Naruto.

3 things 1) The Senju were more than Hashirama and his siblings, we’ve seen that most clans have many members who are only distantly related to each other, he could be descended from a minor member. 2) Asuma and Kurenhai weren’t married, and were attempting to keep their romance a secret, so it’s entirely possible that Tobirama had a secret child, just like most of the world was kept ignorant as to Naruto’s relationship to Minato. 3) If the Senju in Minatos ancestors was a daughter, she could have simpler taken her husbands name, namikaze, and maybe even lived their life as a civilian. Minato could even be the great grandson of tobirama if he had a child early in life, and his daughter chose to not be a Shinobi once the village was established
Anyone else think it’s weird how Hash & Tobi Senju never passed down their unique kekkei genkai/skill set to their progeny. You’re telling me there wasn’t another Senju with wood release or proficient use of water jutsus? Every Uchiha has the ability to awaken the sharingan but none of the Senju descendants even came close to Hash & Toji?

The Namikaze clan could have branched off from the Uzumaki clan or Senju clan,just like Mukai Kohinatas clan split from the Hyuga clan. I Believe they settled in "Land of Waves" since Namikaze means "Wave"

I mean if minato was a senju then it definitely makes the hokageship much more of a monarchy type situations seeing as then 5 of the 7 hokages were senju.
This makes me wonder.... If Sakura comes from a nonshinobi family, why is she so skilled with chakra control? To add to the questions, in an alternate world, Naruto's parents are alive and active Shinobi.... but Sakura's father died as Hokage. Even though the worlds are different, they are also fairly similar.

An idea not explored enough with the "nameless" or "non-family" characters is; maybe they were conceived with people outside of the village, which could explain why unknown family names have high power AND why they lineage may actually be purposefully hidden . Tobirama especially would be against people having children with ninja from other nations. The 'kaze' in "Namikaze" always makes me think of some familial involvement with the sand village. Just a thought 🤔
"Nami" means wave(s) in Japanese, so his last name would be Wavewind if you directly translate, meaning there's a possible connection to some Water Country family
Namikaze is word which means "Harbor winds". So more probably someone from a port city.

I like the idea that yes Ashura created the Rasengan the technique itself may have been lost for generations and Minato merely recreated it the same could be said about the thunder god technique the tobirama created it as far as we know and didn’t pass it down so either Minato created the technique from scratch or may have found some old work of Tobirama and decided to recreate this technique it would explain how he was then able to take it further perfecting the technique as Tobirama himself said that Minato was more capable with the technique than he was

To be fair there was already a fan theory that namikaze was a distance branch of senju like how the sharingan is a distant cousin to the rinnegan at it can transition into one and both are clan specific kekeigenkai to each clan. Son basically this means they were on to something the entire time lol😅
So I had the idea that Minato was cousin to Tsunade. We know Tsunade is Hashirama's granddaughter. What is he had 2 children (or more) and the second married into the Land of Wind. So that child to symbolize strengthened union between land of wind and Uzimaki became Namikaze meaning wind/water or land of wind and land of eddy's combined. This could also be how the 2nd Kazekage was able to research information about jinchuriki through this union.

A very compelling argument for Minato being Senju and further being related to Tobirama, is the fact that Naruto is Asura's reincarnation... As far as I know, Asura reincarnates in the main line of the Senju and Indra in the main line of the Uchiha... with the "main" line Uchiha terminated with Madara, the closest relative to the main line would likely become the new main family leading to Itachi and Sasuke. At the same time, the "main" line of Senju "terminated" with Tsunade, with Tobirama's hypothetical line being the closest relation assuming no other descendants of Hashirama exists. Furthermore, while it could be argued that the "closest to main line" could have "propagated" through Mito to make Kushina the closest relation, we know(Not sure if it is canon) that Butsuma(Hashirama and Tobirama's father) must have had siblings due to Hashirama and Tobirama having a known cousin(again not sure if it's canon), which would likely have spread their bloodline into Konoha, making "close" Senju descendants exist. Therefore, unless the birth timing was way off(like the reason for why Itachi isn't Indra's reincarnation), it is highly unlikely that no Senju descendent existed with a relation closer to the main line Senju, than the Uzumaki progenitor(assuming it didn't "propagate" through Mito's side), which could support Minato being a Senju descendent, though not necessarily from Tobirama, as he could be one of said descendants of Hashirama's cousins which shed the Senju name, making Minato the person with the closest relation to the main line Senju, explaining why Naruto was the "chosen one", as well as his enormous chakra pool.
The Uzumakis are also from Ashura. There's no difference between Uzumaki and Senju other than the name.
I've always considered Minato as having a Senju parent. Reason being that Indra & Asura are the founders of the Uchiha & Senju clans respectively. As far as I can tell Indra & Asura only reincarnate inside their own clans. So Indra only reincarnates in the Uchiha clan & Asura only reincarnates in the Senju clan. My hypothesis for this is the fact that Indra only reincarnates from members of the Uchiha clan & the only other Asura reincarnation I know of besides Naruto is the First Hokage (& if Indra only reincarnates in the Uchiha clan then I'd expect the same for Asura).
I also like, but playing devils advocate, it may also just be that Indra only reincarnate in the Uchiha, because there was no branching out of the Uchiha option, unlike what is going on with the Senju/Uzumaki situation. If the Uzumaki are a clan that came from the Senju, they are still related to Ashura, but the Uchiha don't have, as far as we know, this branching offshoot clan situation. ... So, basically, if all Uchiha had died, Indra would have had no back up reincarnation, but the Senju way of branching off more and more meant Ashura was garantued to be able to reincarnate. (which, in its own way is interesting to me. Because Indra, like the Uchiha stayed closed off, while Ashura, like the Senju opened himself to other, which reflect on their possibility to reincarnate itself)

Personally, I like the theory, but I also like the theory that Minato embodies the original theme or Naruto of hard vs family born as well. Minato being a no name with a bunch of potential is always a fun concept. Or a lower level Senju/ other clan who didn’t carry on the nepotism of the first 2 Hokage.
Not to mention Minato isn't even the only one to have gained legendary status without any Kekkei Genkai and coming from a no name family. Jirayia and Orochimaru became legendary Sannin. Sakura became only the second confirmed user of the Byakugou Seal. And last, but no least, what Might Guy has achieved needs no more introduction.
Hopefully we get these answers in the near future with more Minato content from Kishimoto! It would be so cool to see the namikaze be expanded on
the one shot already came out. and it was a fun story! the new content unfortunately gives us no new answers regarding the namikaze :( it does however give us more lore on the uzumaki so not a total mystery in that regard

If Minato was Tobirama's Grandson that would make Minato and Tsunade "Second Cousins" and Naruto and Tsunade "Second Cousins Once Removed" helps to think of it as Siblings being what you would call Zeroth Cousins and their kids are First Cousins. So you track down the family line from a common ancestor via the shortest leg for the "Place" in front of the word cousin, then you count how many EXTRA steps it takes to get from the common ancestor to the other relative. Tsunade is the third generation down from Hashirama's Dad (Papa Senju), and if this was true Naruto would be the forth generation down from the same Papa Senju

Where did Madara get another rinnegan? How was Madara able to transform his dead eye (The one he used izanagi with) into a rinnegan? Can the rinnegan just overwrite the cost for Izanagi because it's a 6 paths do-jutsu? And if that's true is that why we never see Pein use susanoo, because he never had two Mangekyō?
What do you mean by another rinnegan? As for the blinding, we've seen Sasuke's eye revert to a sharingan when he runs out of chakra for his rinnegan (at least I think I remember that happening). So maybe the eye Madara blinded only blinds the sharingan part? Like if he ran out of chakra for his rinnegan, his eyes would revert to one sharingan and one blind eye. But shit though, you raise an interesting point about Nagato using a susanoo... those eyes WERE sharingan first, Madara DID have a susanoo, Kakashi had a susanoo when he had two borrowed sharingan, and Sasuke kept his susanoo even once one of his eyes became a rinnegan... so by all rights, yeah, Nagato should have had a susanoo.

I can explain most of this. 1st yes rinnegan does cure izanagi. once the uchiha and senju blood combine into so6p chakra, it floods the eye transforming it into a rinnegan and healing the blindness. 2nd there’s a very specific reason nagato couldn’t use susanno, and it’s easy to miss. but it’s the same reason madara could use susanno after losing an eye. the same reason itachi could use it after being blind. the sharingan isn’t just the eye. tobirama explains that it’s actually the chakra inside the uchiha brain. when the uchiha feels pain and grief the chakra in their brain evolves and floods their eye, transforming it. this means that the double mangekyo isn’t necessarily the reason you can use susanno. it’s more like the sign you can. the reason nagato couldn’t use susanno is because he never had the chakra in his brain, just the eyes. In this same way, kakashi didn’t get susanno from getting both eyes. he got both eyes and susanno because Obito gave him his uchiha chakra. 3rd and not the most important one, but Sasuke’s eye can’t revert back to sharingan. his left eye is permanently a rinnegan. the reason he can still use Amaterasu is because he has a 6 tomea rinnegan, which one of its abilities is to let you use your Sharingan abilities. I have two theories. The first one is that Madara had Hashirama cells which overwrote the cost for izanagi, because Hashirama cells are the solution to every problem. The second is that Madara just made a new eye for himself with izanagi, then replaced the blind eye with the eye he created. Although, that does open another plothole. Why did Madara not just create two Rinnegan right there?
Susanoo is a mangekyou ability and the eyes were stuck as rinnegan when he got the eyes,. so that's probably why he didn't have susanoo, also once ms is obtained the the abilities are unlocked they're stuck with you even after your eyes become useless, changed or plucked out, madara was using susanoo blind and don't know the answers about the others.
Since flying raijin is basically summoning yourdelf to somewhere, did jiraya accidently flying raijined himself into mount myobuku when he tried to summon something without a contract when he was a genin? And if thats the case could it be that thats how tobirama thought about creating this jutsu? Like not when jirayay did it but when he himself or somebody close to him did it
Tobirama created flying raijin during the warring states period before Jiraya was born and konoha was created. And killed Madara’s brother with it.

The idea of teleporting by using a reverse summoning jutsu doesn't seem that far from his knowledge. Also the flying rajin was originally created as a way for him to counter the Sharingans enhanced cognitive abilities.

So I'm curious to know what would have happened if Sasuke was brought back. If the fight between naruto and Sasuke ended not with a gut punch but rather naruto grabbing sasukes arm and pulling him into a headbutt, knocking him out until Kakashi arrives. Sasuke is brought back to the village but would Sasuke stay
Probably everyone dies when pain attacks, Naruto would have been less motivated to get as strong as fast because his only goal would be be hokage not return a friend and fulfill a promise, so he and Saskue would be far weaker when Pain and Itachi showed up. Which would also change a lot like Saskue couldn’t be used to kill snake boy lol like so much would change but probably for the worse in the long term
Honestly, there would be a lot of moving parts. For better or worse, Sasuke is likely imprisoned or dead. If Sasuke is left alive, then Orochimaru will likely make plays to collect him. Sakura's motivation likely stalls. What type of training Naruto gets is also unknown. Naruto might stay in the village or go on the training trip. Either way, he might get better training or worse. Atkuski might get a more loyal Itachi. But I honestly doubt that. It is honestly hard to say long term. We are talking about a minimum of 3 years of activity.

Ninja could get special permission from the hokage to learn forbidden jutsu if they were jonin level and actually capable of handling the danger of the jutsu. I don't remember if the anime mentions this, but I believe the manga does early on.
In Sasuke's and Naruto's last battle, Sasuke used Indra's Arrow. Indra's Arrow was only seen in filler, but used by Sasuke in cannon.

NOPE. Flying Raijing is one of those special jutsus that could be mastered by literally anyone, but so hard that only 2 people mastered it. Minato's guards also learned it, but were only able to perform it together as a trio. You don't need a certain bloodline, you don't need magic eyes, it's just that only Tobirama and Minato were good enough to master it.
Hey Nick, is there any point where it's explained what makes Kuramas Chakra special? You often say that Narutos strenght comes from KCM and Kurama, but shouldn't he be able to access that even without Kurama, or anyone else for that matter? Or is tailed beast Chakra somehow "better" then regular Chakra?
Tailed Beasts, especially Kurama, have MASSIVE amounts of Chakra. They're extremely dense, incredibly rich sources of power. Naruto without Kurama was like 1% of his power WITH Kurama.

@@konradkinne4089 I think you're seriously underestimating the amount of Chakra I'm talking about since the only one of those people who even have remotely similar chakra reserves is Hashirama, but it's also the specific makeup OF their Chakra. Like how Tailed Beasts are the only ones able to make Tailed Beast Bombs, it's not just the amount of Chakra it's also the makeup that allows it.
I used to have the perspective that anything that isn't stated in the manga isn't canon and that has changed. Now it is: So at 20:54, unless Kishimoto has written/co-written a manga/novel adaptation about this, then Ashura did not create the Rasengan.

I have one dispute with this theory, and that's when Nick says only Tobirama and Minato know the flying raijin technique. Hiruzen also knows it, and uses it to get to the battlefield of the 4th great war. I'd say Hashirama knows it as well, but I'm sure he just ran there while they all teleported.
Hiruzen doesn't know it. In fact, it's stated that flying raijin is the only jutsu Hiruzen could never learn (aside from new jutsus like Chidori and Rasengan) Also, they all ran (used body flicker) to get to the war, none of them teleported there
I think it makes more sense that Minato makes the first Rasengan cuz he made it based on a tailed beast bomb, hence it’s findementally different than a similar Jutsu made before the prevalence of tailed beasts

The series does make a point to say that one way to increase your chakra pool is through physical training. It's possible that one reason Boruto has much less chakra is because he just didn't train as much or start as early as previous generations. He didn't have to because they were building an era of peace. Naruto himself at the start talks about how Boruto doesn't train like his generation used to at that age because his clothes always look clean and new.

I had a thought recently thinking about Chakra natures and how they affect objects. We know wind Chakra increases the cutting power of a blade and and lighting increases its penetrative abilities. But what do the other nature's do to weapons? Specifically what does water nature Chakra add to a weapon. As 90% of the ninja we see who specialize in water jutsu also specialize in kenjutsu or carry some other form of large weapon.
I'd actually love it if Minato didn't have a great background. Makes his rise and incredible talent that much more impressive.

Finally, someone made a video about the theory I have been spouting on about for years! I've never seen anyone else with that theory but, everyone I have told it to has stated it makes more sense than the secret child theory. I have been putting it in your comments every so often 😂 I'd like to point out that not every powerful clan is directly blood related to Asura and Indra. So, there is not reason for Minato to have any relation to the Uzumaki. They wouldn't have too much issue with other nations if that were the case. The Sarutobi clan is a great example of one that exists within Konoha. Hiruzen being one of the most powerful Shinobi to have existed in Konoha. The same goes for Kakashi's father, the White Fang, being powerful and not having any known connection to the Senju. There are also clans that are not related to them that formed around (through incestuous means) certain Kekkei Genkai. It's safe to say that Minato doesn't have to have a genetic connection to the Uzumaki clan. A few things you could have added: In the filler for Madara and Hashirama becoming friends, they gave Tobirama dirty blonde hair. He looks EXACTLY like Naruto but with Minato's hair and angry (😂 also like Bakugo from MHA) and I don't think that's a coincidence. Another thing is that I believe the Namikaze name can have another explanation. In Japan, they don't like to address taboo topics in anime but will add them in the background. Some of those are single mothers, divorce, and ,for this theory, having children out of wedlock. Who is to say that Tobirama wasn't spreading his seed around. If he had a child out of wedlock, they would keep the mother's last name. The same would go if he had married, had a son and that son had a child out of wedlock. This part is canon at least in the anime but, Tobirama does not question why Minato and Naruto (who is using a forbidden jutsu) are exclusively using and perfected HIS techniques. In fact, he seems rather proud that are. Like, I know the pride could be in them perfecting the techniques but given the overall theme of the Naruto series as a whole, it makes sense that he is proud of his grandchildren. There is so much to this theory and it honestly does make far more sense than any secret child theory.
