This LEGO Connection is illegal…
Did you know that some LEGO Connections are Illegal? Do they break your pieces? Today I build and explore several Illegal LEGO Building Techniques to see how easily they can be assembled with common pieces, and what actually makes them “illegal”. Along with this I use some of these Illegal Techniques to design and build my own custom lego sets. I build and potentially step on a super painful Lego build as well as build a weapon that I test out and the result was INSANE. There is so much more, stay tuned to find out!

So the lego designer behind the haunted house did a video on sticking a plate perpendicularly. He stated that doing it once with a smooth plate is fine as they are slightly thinner than plates with studs on them.
My first time i had ever made a Lego set is like 2 days ago
4:17 this is incredibly useful for Stop Motions. If you need a quick, temporary wall, you can just take some larger plates from Minecraft sets and put them between bricks (if you’re putting two right next to eachother though, I recommend connecting them on the back, as it will help to close the gap and prevent one from falling over more than the other.).
Use a straightened-out paperclip to remove those wedge pieces from inside your 2x4 brick. Anything small and thin that is rigid should work.
I did that too
omggggg
The grave piece they used on the haunted house set is actually slightly thinner than a regular lego plate/tile. Therefore it doesn't break the rules and cause the piece below it to bow out.
you gay
they also used this on the Empire State Building :)
explain the stratocaster then
yeah it fits on the MICROSCOPIC level
tho in the Saturn V ideas set they use a normal plate
For the transparent piece rule, I once stuck a transparent flagpole piece into another transparent 1x1 cone. they got bonded together and remain stuck to this day, and attempts to get them unstuck has left a fracture down the side of the cone
My best phrase when something is illegal: It's only illegal until you get caught.
10:01 The bark kills me every time.
9:19 that's literally what the bottom tubes are designed for... to be able to "squeeze" them between four studs. Have you ever looked at the bottom of a brick or plate? They have the same tubes and those tubes get squeezed between studs everytime you stack the brick or plate onto another brick or plate.
Wat?
@@gabrieledifilippo2412 complex mathematics
Yes, so normal bricks will loosen over time, same as the round plates. But do you notice normal bricks/plates apply forces in two opposite directions (inwards and outwards) towards studs, while the case 9:19 only apply forces outward
Thanks I don’t have to explain that now
@@BADthing1995 ..so you’re saying stacking bricks are illegal?

Not only is the video accurate it is funny as heck! I am laughing so hard here.
4:33 that is legal because the plate is smaller than a normal thin piece. Edit: Tiago Catarino, a former Lego designer, explains this in his video about illegal building techniques.
4:33 That tombstone and plate thing is not an illegal building technique because that piece is thinner than the normal plate, just barely thin enough to make that connection not put any stress on the pieces, therefore the connection is legal.

4:33 LEGO uses flat tiles for such techniques, which doesn't put much pressure into plate, unlike a regular tile with studs. So, basically: flat tiles - legal, stud tiles - illegal.

4:41, to settle the debate once and for all it actually depends on the use case. Using a tile is legal, but using a plate is illegal.
I know people will think I’m a psycho, but I used to jump onto piles of Lego bricks and plates when I was a kid. My friends would always be surprised when I did it without feeling any pain.
Legit you made me cry. It hurts inside just watching it
I've never watched one of these videos before but I just want to take the opportunity to point out: joining two Lego bricks together as they were intended also stresses the parts. That's how they stay together.
lol
Actually lego bricks interlock and fit together with tension, this does not stress the part as the studs aren't being squeezed. The kind of stress that is produced by illegal techniques will result in noticeable deformations over time such as snapping, stretching, or bending.
@@SacredBricks what was the music used?
05:49 to get the pieces out of your brick, try grabbing a lego sword piece and slip it underneath the pieces and push it up. If it doesn't work, use a lego pole to do it.. If that doesn't work, try tweezers. Otherwise, RIP XP
i love how the gauntlet on 1:27 flipped me the bird
Hii Sacred I love Lego and you give me a lot of inspiration to build more Lego while I'm sick with covid
Getting the slope pieces out of this should not be so difficult, yet you will have to scratch them. i would use a needle or a nail, trying to grip the Slope underneath, creating a Gap. Same thing as you did with the Pencil, but way less unstable.
Im very very impressed of this man defense stat, i mean he stepped on the legos but still come out alive. What a legend!

2:37 turning the glass sideways: m c d o n a l d s i p a d ?
Actually the grave piece wedged in between the studs in the haunted house is legal since that piece is slightly smaller than plates
To get out the cheese slopes you can use hot water (be carefull as water which is too hot will permanently damage the bricks, I am not sure when ABS becomes maleable but that's not what you want) the hot should bloat up a bit and reduce the grip on the cheeseslopes.
Katana piece also work
If you use the lil blue thing with the lever you could also make it a vending machine slot for coins or you can add it as a doorknob with a lock like you can twist it so it looks like you can lock and unlock it and a doorbell but the doorbell is optional cause it doesn’t quite look like a doorbell but it could be useful for builds
the haunted house is actually different, I believe it was the original designer who pointed out that the gravestone is thinner, and therefore put less pressure on the bricks

The most qualified video about this topic I've seen so far is from Tiago Catarino. He is a former Lego designer and also explains the plate-between-studs technique.
The sort of plate-in-stud side-linking (what should we call it?) used at time code 4:16 was actually used by Lego themselves back in the 1970's. Check out sets 609 "Aeroplane" and 644 "Double Tanker" as just a couple of examples. I am sure there are probably more if anybody cared to search.....

Its like being alive, then being alive is illegal
07:38: It is at this moment he knew. He fu**ed up.
The plate and stud technique was used in the micro fighter star wars AT AT
With that technique where you had a plate between the studs of another plate, that is illegal, as the plate is a little too thick for the studs. However, the technique that the people are likely referring to when they say that Lego uses it in their sets does not use two plates, but a plate and a tile. The tile pieces are slightly thinner than plates, and so, tiles don't cause stress when attached in this manner, therefore, tile between studs, yes, plate between studs, no.
Bruh, they should make different Lego pieces like with different connections
Oh hello planet caden how was your holiday
The Lego tenic pins Blox hurt more than anything
putting a stud in between the studs of the plate is considered legal because lego needed a way to make lego stick more better to eachother, it is even featured in the video where lego started
