Ukraine: How US-supplied Bradleys destroyed feared Russian T-90 tank

Incredible footage has been released showing one of Russia’s most capable main battle tanks being obliterated by the firepower of two US-supplied Bradley infantry fighting vehicles in Ukraine.
The T-90 tank was described by Russian President Vladimir Putin as "the world's most advanced main battle tank".
However, despite being protected by explosive reactive armour, the T-90's weaknesses on the battlefield were exposed in drone footage that showed the vehicle facing the two M2 Bradleys.

  • Per a first hand account of the M2 gunner, he was not aiming for the base of the turret. He specifically aimed for the optics, blinded the T90, which then crashed into a tree. That's thinking on your feet.

    • I saw that interview. He said he played lots of video games and was aiming for weak spots. However, they had (unspecified) issues with armor piercing round so he used regular rounds aiming for censors in an attempt to blind the tank and not allow it to escape. He was also fresh out of training and on his second assignment.

    • Due to poor leadership, and the chaos of war, tanks can end up by themselves in Ukraine. Often it's a mixture of many factors, though my guess was it was apart of some sort of patrol/sortie and through prior events, ended up in it's current position. However, Ukraine reports plenty of times of Russian tanks, even as late as 2024, being caught with zero infantry support. I'm not sure if these claims are true or missing/lacking important context since there is a propoganda war from both sides. All I can say is that this particular T-90 had a bad time.

      @aickavon@aickavon3 ай бұрын
    • Nah, russia lost majority of working tanks so they often operate like that especially when they are ordered to move forward no matter what. Russia uses their WW2 tactics, human losses are least important so they just send anyone and anything just as meat for grinder so Ukraine has to waste ammo on them. That's why western support especially ammo is so important. Putin will sacrifice millions if he has to, just like during WW2 they will eventually send unarmed soldiers and tell them to own equipment from dead bodies.

The tank drove backwards, presumably to get the hell out of Dodge in a hurry and eventually got caught up in a tree that stopped the turret from spinning, but the tank was imobilized. The crew bailed and were soon either KIA or for one guy, captured by Ukraine forces soon after they bailed. It lasted about an hour total. The Bradley was specifically designed to take on heavy MBTs like this. Idealy, they would have used the anti-armour rounds, but the gunner explained he had issues with the ammunition and changed to incendiary rounds. A second Bradly did pummel it with the anti-armor, but it was the incendiary rounds that finished out the FLIR and effectively blinded it. The crew could not aim it at anything, let alone get a firing solution...so no, it didn't continue to operate. Literally most of russian tankers are begginers and most importantly, the way the bradleys fought against the so called 'best russian tank' was truly mindful and strategic. The two bradleys and the drone used teamwork. The drone told the location of the t-90, the bradleys went in from both front and backsides at a staggering range and then started blasting up the russian toy. At this point, the russian tankers are the ones who drived tanks by growing up from playing video games. Lol, russian bot just mad cuz his former country tankers just dont have the brain or the experience to fight or use a tank in tank combat.

  • Although the Russians have overwhelming numerical superiority in manpower and equipment, this incident is an example of the downside of their doctrine of using that numerical superiority to compensate for poor training. An experienced tank crew would have taken at least one Bradley out, and likely both. And experienced field officers would have used combined arms tactics instead of sending a tank out on its own.

    • at most the bradley would get an assist but i doubt that it would, since destroying optical visors doesnt count in a game.

  • Clickbait title. The Bradley just did some damage to the turret which caused it to spin. The tank could probably still be repaired, even after the drone hit. Still T90>Leopard 2.

  • Already bmp2 Soviet tests showed that fire from autocannon could easily cause mobility and fire power kills....in extreme cause also destroy a tank in certain weak spots....actually in Gulf war Abrams tanks armor was penetrated in friendly fire incidents by Bradley from behind.....so nothing unusual. Interesting to me is why tank did not open fire at least from12.7mm top remote weapons station as it would drive bradley away and give crew time to retreat. Also proof why tank should not operate by itself

    • .50 isn't going to hurt the Brad anymore than the brads 25mm could the t90. But more likely it was already too late as the brads knocked out their optics, which the .50 could do to the brads, but again probably didn't get the chance and even if it did was still 2 on 1. The real a question is how and why the t90 even got into this knife fight, let alone by itself. In this situation it didn't have much of a chance imo.

    • first disabled, then, because disabled in the first place, destroyed. Safed the crew? what do you think a tank crew is on a battlefield outside of their disabled/destroyed tank?? Answer: nothing more but passengers/spectators. Tank crews carry only small firearms, not assault rifles.

    • @@FrankFarian-cl3rq russian tank crews carry shortened assault rifles like ak-74u which, by all means, cant be called a "small firearm".
