HIIII, here's The Bad Guys MV I've been working on for 3-ish months. (Would've done that faster if I wasn't procrastinating...)
Once I watched the movie, I knew I had to make an animation with this song hehe

The song choice for these two characters makes so much sense. The part of the song Wolf has seems like he is trying to convince people he's a villain. The lines "What makes you disagree? You don't know what a wicked little devil I can be, do you?" is a façade. But deep down Wolf is a good person and he truly doesn't want to be boxed into a label as VILLAIN. But based on the perspective of others that's what he is. This perspective ties into the song's theme about the world being black and white. Not everything is just good and bad and based on someone's perspective they may just see you as either good or bad. For Diane, she is kind of the opposite of Wolf but very similar. She is hiding her bad side and exercising her good side to the public. But being around Wolf is good for her because she can let her true colors show. At the beginning of Diane's part of the song she yells "You're a villain" to Wolf but it could be her projecting and blending with the crowd so she can hide the villainous parts of herself. And the line "The villain you failed to notice breathes within you, so what?" is something I can imagine Wolf saying to Diane so she can just be her naturally mischievous self. It's also funny how during that same line you can see Diane being very cordial and nice so that the public eye won't suspect her being a villain. And my favorite part is from [0:35] to [0:44]. Wolf says he will kill someone and Diane says mockingly that he may kill someone. Wolf gets upset and says maybe he'll kill Diane and Diane says maybe. When I first saw this I thought Wolf is killing the good persona that Diane has and by killing that persona her villain comes alive. This makes even more sense to me because during that entire scene she was wearing what looks like an all black spy suit. She also recedes into the dark while Wolf walks to the brighter side of the area. It symbolizes their true natures as individuals and how their attraction to each other helps them in more ways than they know. I also think Diane enjoys being that villain so when Wolf storms away in frustration and Diane kind of smirks she is enjoying how he is helping her and he doesn't even know it. Kind of cute to think about.
Interestingly the way I saw it was less that wolf was helping her and more like Diane was basically stating her conviction. Diane basically forces Wolf out of the dark, and you can see it in the way he stumbles. However she does so by instead taking HIS place in the dark. She hides her drive beneath a thin veneer of playfulness but the truth is Wolf WAS getting her killed because she was willing to put her life on the line to make sure wolf could step into the light. This is further expressed by the next scene where you see her holding the Zipangu diamond, thing that holds wolf and Diane together. While doing so she talks about how she appears as the hero on one side, however when she talks about being the villain on the other, she puts the diamon away and pulls up her hood. That's her conviction, she'll step wholly into the dark if it means protecting what is important to her, and in this situation it's the thing that ties her nad wolf together.

Really loving the tiny detail of revealing the fox to the right side of her face, where her piercings (the only sign of her "rebellious" or "villainous" side showing outwardly) are visible. As the video progresses, more and more of her other side is revealed. By the end when the light is shone on her, its the left side of her face towards the camera.
That detail makes the entire animation wrap together amazingly

Small detail, but Wolf's ear flick at the beginning indicating that he heard the viewer, before turning around was such great attention to detail!
i really like how the way the characters are animated fits how they are personality wise. wolf has less fullbody shots because hes quick, never lets people see too much of him, manipulating the space hes in and not waiting for the panels to have their time to show him off before going to the next, and then diane letting her shots in the spotlight linger, only really manipulating and going out of frame once, albeit just her hand. shows their personalities really well and it itched my brain real good

Dont wanna go spreading misinformation just bc something might work for me rather than other ppl. Just trust the process and watch other ppl to learn would b my only word of advice! Eventually you'll be able to sit there and speak abt dumb minimalist shit in animation just bc ur eyes decided to look away from the main focus

I I have to bring attention to the way that you aren’t afraid to let details appear and disappear for the viewers to infer within this art style Specifically in the beginning, when the silhouette turns to look at the viewer, and then during the spotlight sequence Especially during the spotlight sequence The way the fur that sticks out on one side disappears as the head turns And then when the spotlight shuts off the shadows highlight that fur even though it wasn’t outlined at that position I’m- This consistency is d e li c i o u s I hope you know that this is brilliant
and then just On first watch All I could look at was how the characters- heck, just the whole animation, interacts with the viewer’s perception of the space. Like It’s not like I’ve never seen characters running between/escaping the confines of the comic style panels, I live for that stuff But to see it here in such a smooth and in-character manner aAAAAAA And the eXPRESSIONS??? THOSE WOLFY GRINS ARE SO CUTE AND SO TELLING OF RHE CHARACTER- I’ve not seen the movie yet- I’ve been meaning to But these expressions are e v e r y t h i n g you can see the playfulness, the snark, the sinister intent, the exasperation, the eye-rolling sentiment It’s so good everything is perfectly conveying the characterization of these two Also the silhouette at the beginning After watching a few times, I can actually tell which character it is, even though it feels a little vague the first time watching And just Not only the fluidity of the animation But the timing The way that the movements drag into each other I could talk about this for hours
I’m so sorry I keep coming back I just can’t shut up about this THE FOX HAS THE RING IN MORE SCENES THAN I THOUGHT- IT’S THERE DURING “You’re a Villain” AND THE CLOTHING MOVEMENTS- I JUST STARTED NOTICING THE SLEEVES MOVING WITH THE CHARACTERS And like obviously they do but also tHE THOUGHT TO ANIMATE THEM BC EVERYTHING IN ANIMATION IS INTENTIONAL **SCREAMS** Also I just love The brush used to draw all this gives a pencil-to-paper texture that’s really tasty to look at right And the outlines are mainly around the character ofc But Blocks of color that highlight beneath the muzzles Those aren’t outlined And that keeps the character edges feeling soft without sacrificing detail I’mdfgvvhgfvhhgggd Also like Wolf boi during his panel sequence is way more focused on his own movements, kind of looking back and patting himself on the back for pulling off the escape While Foxy turns across each panel, not escaping, but focused on the viewer, in a subtle, alluring yet menacing way And idk how much of this is animator’s choice vs source material character design But Fox has way more outfits to portray themselves in While Wolf sticks to his iconic suit I think that keeps the viewer invested in the Fox and characterizes them as someone tricky to pin down- cause it reinforces they have a life outside what the viewer sees and keeps them guessing (From what I saw of the trailers, I think the movie follows Wolf for the most part- but that does mean we probably see his many outfits throughout the movie, so I do think a part of this is animator’s choice, bc there wouldn’t be a lack of various outfits- unless that’s a running gag that I’m unaware of)

I have no words to describe how well this video is made. seriously, the animation is extremely fluid, which is relaxing, it also has perfect synchronization with the mouth and the music, not to mention the details like at 00:27 where she shows the ring or how you did even her piercing. And even though this video is barely 1 minute long, it captured the essence of the characters, congratulations seriously 👏👏👏

I also love how when the tone in the song changes from a dramatic old-timey tune to an upbeat yet edgy melody the animation follows it the same way!! Not even to mention the switch (literally one of my fav parts) when he pushes it away in such a fun way… AHHHH!! Also the little tie adjustment lining up with the music!!!! Also the duality/symbolism of Diane being on the left (good) and mr wolf being on the right (bad) and at the end they switch right before Diane is kind of revealed… just absolutely wonderful!!!! And the dynamic backgrounds!??!? I can’t!!! Man I must have commented on this like 5 times and on your Instagram too because it’s so good….

OK, apparently I can't make community posts yet OOPS HAHA. So, to clarify some things: 1. Animation program used is Toon Boom Harmony; for compositing I used After Effects 2. Animation is 24 FPS 3. No, I did not work on the movie XDD 4. I'm not sure if I'm making a process video... I almost don't have any recordings/drafts and worked very chaotically on the project, so imo "the making of" video wouldn't be very helpful :| 5. Yes, there was a WIP reposted on TikTok that got viral, it's my work, but not my account. 6. Go watch the movie itself, wtf are you doing here If you have anymore questions, I can address them in replies to this comment. I always thought it was funny that even though Diane desired to be a better person she still would show off her accomplishments of stealing by hiding it in plain sight. Like the ring, for example, meant that she was still proud of her past self. She talked of the “amateurs” as if she was above them when you rewatch the movie in the news.

WOW, this animation is *SUPER FLUID.* The movements are very realistic and the overall animation is epic! The characters even look very accurate to the actual movie. Amazing work!

this is the kind of animation and proportion consistency i ASPIRE to achieve. How the fur coloring shifts as the character speaks, how the fur peaks disappears as the character slowly turns, and how the light slowly creeps in like a showlight turning on
I don't care what anyone says, you need more subscribers. I'm pretty sure a majority of those viewers forgot to press subscribe or something. This is one of the most smoothest and fluent animations I've ever seen. These animations do take a lot of time and thought to make with so much detail and a lot of frames. This is a great example of a hard worker at their finest, and i wish to be this smooth in animation one day. This is beautiful and i am definitely looking forward to seeing more. Absolutely stunning, plus the expressions go along just perfectly with these characters and everything just fits together like a puzzle. I've seen the movie before, but your animation looks like you could make a full on movie. Absolutely love it.

One of the best animations I've seen lately. The way you manage to express the characters, it's really just amazing and atches the eye. At least I really liked from 19 to 37, but the last part is also amazing and in general everything is stunning

You have such a natural talent to make animations and effects have a gorgeous timing on music, the color palette you chose for the backgrounds and even how you handle shading is simply impeccable! Keep up the amazing work

I've been watching this nonstop, it's crazy that you play around with the compositions/layouts that instantly focuses on the main point in each scene that makes it much more easier in the eyes therefor much more pleasing to watch. Also the style of the chosen typography plays out perfectly with the theme of the animation. I don't need to comment on the character animation itself it's perfect, the gimmicks of the characters, their attitudes, their animalistic movements, I still can't believe how much effort is given to animate the details of each frame to get it flow perfectly, also beautiful color choices. I'm an artist but more to illustrations and design for branding, wanting to make an animation for my OCs but I'm sticking to animatic, I don't have the heart for animation honestly. This is very well done.

I am not going to lie, throughout this entire animation, my only thought was "holy crap this is amazing." Animator, you did an INCREDIBLE job. It reminded me on an anime intro (one of the intro weebs can agree is one of the greats). Thank you for your hard work because this animation quite literally made my jaw drop. Keep killing it!

ok, this is SO UNDERATED! This animation is beautiful, the colors and contrast are great, the character's movements and faces and emotions, and the art style is great too! There is so much more great stuff in this animation I can't even express in words! I have at least watched this over 30 times. Great Job!

Truly skilled animation! You know how to compile the seperate aspects of a video to make it come together well. If you know what I mean, no scene in this looks "empty", while the focal points are still highlighted.
