Finishing off my 1.7m slide-out camp kitchen in the back of my canopy setup! This kitchen build has been a big DIY project but I'm really happy with how it's come together and would love to hear what you guys think of it. 🙂

Gday mate, been watching since your first Hyperflame videos and that’s what prompted me to buy one. Just wanted to show my appreciation for your craftsmanship. You take the time, you prep the area and it looks like you take the utmost care. Of all the KZheadrs I’ve watched do DIY I don’t think I’d want anyone else working on my own vehicle. Congrats so far and best of luck on your first trip in the new rig.
Hey mate, really appreciate that! Thanks for watching along since the early days and hope your Hyperflame has been serving you well. 🙂
I'd look at painting the big w drawers black and keeping them tbh, the clear fronts are good, and they weigh nothing, might grab some myself
Fantastic job just get a black paint pen for the screws in the carpet 👍
Good thinking, will have to touch them up 👌
Stunning effort .you may be able to screw down some stainless on the benchtop in the future....after the second melt ! ..
Absolutely unreal ingenuity in this three part series! You’ve inspired me, and others I’m certain, to work on our dream builds. Kudos on a job very well done.
Great end result. If the tabletop doesn't hold up, just glue a super thin sheet of stainless to it.
Good suggestion, thanks mate!
Awesome! Have a hyperflame myself! Enjoy!
Mate connect a short length of string between the fold down table and the support bars, then you can just pull the support frame out and the table will drop down… hope this is a helpful idea!
Haha good one, love it!
@@explorebound loving this build man :D
We started using those plastic draws over 20 years ago in our old Pathfinder & still use the inside draws to drop into our slide draws in our Patrol. They have been all over Australia from 12 Simpson crossings, 15 High Country, to the Canning Stock Route. We pack them at home & drop them in - quick & easy as a "Day box" - ""Cooking Box" etc.
I’m really loving this build up mate, the whole average joe having a crack at home is so refreshing from all the chequebook builds out there now.
Thanks mate, appreciate that! 🍻
Looks like a bought one. Well done.👌Just keep an eye on that vinyl wrap that's under the stove, and I'd colour those screw heads with a black Sharpe so they don't stand out too much.
Daniel there’s an engineer hidin in there somewhere after that build.👍🤓
Enjoy your trip! Nothing better than finishing up a new DIY right before the trip. So fun!
Great job mate! Could put a little hanger to hang the gas bottle of the end there too (plus the obligatory bottle opener on there somewhere too :D )
Thanks mate! Love the idea to hang a gas bottle off the unit, will look into that 👌
Great job and great solutions for the drop down panel 👍👍👌👌
i have seen lots people use those plastic drawers, i would keep them, lightweight and cheap. seen a few people glue carpet to the fronts to tidy them up.
Yeah they've actually impressed us, we were expecting them to fall apart with what we subjected them to on our trip but they're faultless so far 👌
good work mate
MONTAGE for the WIN!!! :P
Nice work!
Fantastic work and attention to detail. May I recommend you get a rivnut tool. It will make some things a lot easier
I love how Bianca was like "yeah nah that crap aint going to fly in MY Canopy.... Daniel, keep working, I'll fix the benchtops!" :P
Haha she keeps my work to a high standard that's for sure! 😅
So glad to see your subscribers final going up. Long deserved
Thanks mate 🙂
Great job Daniel
Awesome job there man, very impressive!
Well done. Enjoyed your videos
Wow you should be very proud mate that’s an awesome build
Thanks mate 🙂
Congrats Daniel you've done an awesome job with the fitout, your a very clever lad with some of your ideas.
Thanks Malcolm, appreciate that! 🙂
bloody good job mate, very clever
Looks good mate , well done 👍
thats spot on. great little design
Great project.
Well thought-out and executed. Congrats
Awesome job m8 I will set some time aside to binge on you're earlier vid's once again well done
Thanks mate! 🙂
Awesome job! Some very practical ideas in you build. Loved watching its progress over the last few vids. Have a great trip.
If you want to camouflage the screw heads in the carpet you can paint the the heads of the screw black. So you don’t see spots of Silver in the carpet
Ahh good suggestion! I'll have to touch them up. 👌
You've nailed it dude, well done!
Top quality work guys looks fantastic
Great work. Clever simple solutions to over come the issues you've come across. Love it.👍👍
Mate I’m in love with your videos hahah you do such a good job🤙
Thanks mate!! 🙂
Wow. You have done such a great job. I love the custom design and little feature. It looks like you have had fun designing and building it. Plus if anything breaks you know it inside out.
Thanks Andrew! It was a fun project to work on 🙂
well done and well thought out great clear video.
i will have to go and look at a few more now cheers
Thanks mate 🙂
Been following the whole Isuzu dmax build and have really enjoyed how you have designed & most importantly given the DIY a go. Keep up the content , keen for more
The canopy is really looking the goods now, Daniel...great job. All the best for your upcoming trip...safe travels and I look forward to seeing the videos soon.
Thanks Russell! 🍻
Looks good. You should notch in some grooves on the underside of the angle bracket (supporting your fold out cover) to hang plastic/rubbish bags off the end of your bench. If that makes sense…
That's actually a great idea - might have to do that I reckon! Cheers 🙂
And a bottle opener notch 😉
well done guys looks amazing
How awesome is that 👏 fantastic job guys
Mate your canopy fit out has come up mint 👌 Love that front cover and side door access idea you've nailed it. Awesome build guys can't wait to see the new rig on some cool adventures. Thanks guys
Thanks mate! 🙂
You are a very efficient, hands on kind of guy. Definitely a job well done :)
love this, given me so many ideas for the rear set up i want to make for my fortuner.
Looks great!
Very well done you two. What I did with my bench top, to stop it from scratching, I poured resin over it. That did the trick for me. Cheers for the video, I learned a lot.
Great job guys 👍
Love your video's. Very much enjoy your DIY skills and mindset, very impressive. Safe travels in 2023
Wow, you two did an awesome job!
Great work! Credit to you both, have a great trip.
Outstanding. Congratulations to you both on this project.
If you ever get sick of the slide out kitchen draw I'll 100% buy it 🤣
Fantastic effort for an outstanding result! Thank you for sharing this build and I'm sure that you have inspired many, including myself, to have a go at building a custom unit like you have done.
Thanks Pat, appreciate that! It was a fun project. 🙂
Very impressive with all the work you have done. Look forward for more and to see the new adventures you get to do. Keep up the great work 👍
Thanks mate! 🙂
Add heat shrink over the steel rods, will help protect and reduce rattle. Great work on the set-up and my money is on the temp set-up being used for quite a while as long as it functions how you both want. The front bench can house a step while travelling as the benches are pretty tall. Cheers 🍻
Good ideas - cheers!
Love the build! Curious though, what's the rough cost of materials and estimated total weight?
Great build mate, looks awesome! Well done
Well done mate, nothing beats doing it yourself 👍👍loving the mods buddy
Thanks mate! 🙂
Awesome job, has made me want to redo my canopy setup, or in better terms to actually finish it
Same here, bastard will keep me busy now for a while 😉 great job Daniel 👍
Really enjoyed your build. Fantastic work well done. Looks the business 👍
Thanks mate!
Recent subscriber buddy, love the diy videos 👍👍👍great canapy, I’ll check out more of your videos L
Thanks mate and welcome! Glad you found the channel 🙂
looks amazing mate, some great idea's there. One suggestion I would make, if that vinyl doesn't last, get some thin stainless sheets cut to size and stick them down.... highly durable, very good for preping and cleaning on (essentially don't need cutting boards then). Just a thought :)
Good suggestion mate that would work well! I reckon I'll go down that route once the vinyl starts looking a bit rough 🙂
was just about to comment the same thing, just make sure its good quality stuff they use for kitchens

it looks so professional, it sucks you don't have more subs but I think you should start your own van/ vehicle building company doing this for customs campers, you have asthethic skills and mechanical skills,
Solid build mate! Awesome layout and neat little mods throughout. 🤙🏼 Currently looking into redoing my rear setup on my Hilux and this entire build is very inspirational. Keen to see what you guys do next! Keep it up, loving the series! 🙏🏼
Thanks mate, glad you've been enjoying the build and good luck with your Hilux setup! 🙂
Have you weighed the drawer/slide once it was complete?
Legends
Hey mate I’m quite inspired by that build, however I am concerned you don’t have enough space between the stove and the box to the left of it. I realise you didn’t build a house, but for interest in a house there’s a distance of 200mm required between the edge of a gas cooktop and a combustible material.
Good stuff. How much did it all cost for the hardware
Hey mate. Loving the content. Getting your other half involved is also great to see. My only gripe is the news reader voice accents at the end of every sentence. It's a small thing but it really takes away from what your doing in my opinion.
What was the thickness of the aluminum tubing you used? Was this EZ tube that you used?? Thank you
Great build, Just one question. Where is the kitchen sink? 🤣
Haha I knew I forgot something!! 😅 The long term plan for this setup is to have a large water tank mounted under the tray so an in-canopy sink wasn't as neccessary, for our recent trip we used a collapsable sink unit which we setup on the rear undertray drawer to use.
nice job on this build. what was the CAD program you were using. I thought one of your videos had a plug for it, went back and scanned the but could not find. Of course I may have thought I saw one and never did. haha
Thanks mate! I just used Adobe Illustrator because I use it for work, probably not the best tool for the job though haha.
Mate 100% love the job looks sooooooo good BUT .... please please please take the sharp edges off the brackets for the little doors behind the cooker, its giving me PTSD hahaha
Beautiful job. Well I can say that you are very talented. How do I get a hold of you I have a few questions questions
Do you think you’ll be up-sizing the gas canister from 1lb to something with a bigger capacity?
Yeah I normally take along a bigger gas bottle for trips longer than a few nights. 🙂
This is a fantastic set up, your videos are very comprehensive and I love your channel. Do you happen to know the weight overall of this kitchen?
Thanks mate appreciate that!! Hmm I don't have an exact weight unfortunately but the entire frame was extremely lightweight, could easily lift it with one hand. The only heavy componants were the wooden benchtops (could be replaced by folded aluminium to save weight), and the drawer slides which were quite heavy.
Where did you buy sliders?
Any update or differences with the new hyperflame vs your old one with that handy mod you did?
The actual unit is identical, but I had forgotten how bad the flame adjustment was prior to modification, ended up doing the same mod to this new unit while in Karijini 😅
@@explorebound ahahahah yeah
hey daniel it’s looks sick what do you think the rough price of it would be all up
Close to $800 for everything including the stove (both sets of drawer runners were $300 by themselves!). That was buying most materials at Bunnings though, and a few people have commented that it's far cheaper going to aluminium suppliers so could no doubt shave a bit of the cost off there. 🙂
Bro youve got some wicked ideas could we get a total cost?
Hey mate, rough cost for the entire build would be close to $800 (stove: $200, drawer runners: $300, building materials: $300). That was buying most materials at Bunnings though, and a few people have commented that it's far cheaper going to aluminium suppliers so could no doubt shave a bit of the cost off there. 🙂
The first time I’ve ever regretted listening to you: Goliath slides from Bunnings. Literally - JUNK. A horrible to use product. Everything else you do is amazing, but this was a disaster.
Which brand to use for each part comes down to personal preference I guess mate - I’ve used Goliath runners for multiple projects and never had any issues, pretty happy with them for the price. I’m assuming you‘ve had a bad experience with them, so you might want to look at more premium runners instead.
