After this tournament, I'm surprised how European clubs didn't see Semih Şentürk.
As far as I can say, Turkey's national team was not experienced those times but they had a different soul of competitive, which we do not see in any team in general these times, and that is way for many people around the globe this is the best tournament ever perhaps. Especially in Croatia-Turkey match, no one would believe that there would be a goal after Ivan's goal in 119th minute, but Semih's goal in 121st minute, probably a last second goal.
If you take it seriously, the 1:1 was at 121:01. It was 1 second over the time.

This game was shown in a cinema in my hometown. Half of the visitors were turkish, the others were german. And i never forget the thrilling atmosphere there till the end!

Legendary game. Perhaps the best Turkish team ever we had to compete against, but we had Schweinsteiger, Klose, Lahm, Ballack - actually, I think this was Lehmann's weakest performance as German goalie, actually. And after the 1:1, our cable connection broke down - so my father and I had to listen to the next minutes over RADIO and it had serious 1954 vibes ("Toooor, Toooor, Tooooor!"). Then, 2:2 and Lahm's finest minute in the German dress as he managed to deliver the killing blow. WHAT a time to remember!
Fun fact: over 10 turkish players had injuries or were banned due to yellow or red card. That was literally the second team with only 3 players on the bench.

How is ihat possible? Every team can take 23 players on tournament, so over 10 is minimum 11 which couldnt play here. 23-11 means that Turkey had starting 11 plus 1 sub...
@@matthiasdominik4049 You can see the subs at 2:41. What @ErTrkl says is almost the truth. Turkiye was so badly undercut, they were thinking about getting the 3rd keeper to play as a center back. Initially 9 players were missing but some of the subs were barely able to get in shape for the match. Had they survived Germany they'd have a better squad for the final. But that was a hell of match.
Lahm's goal is fantastic so simple but beautifully effective the best game of this euro

I was living in Turkey at the time due to my Dads job and got invited to watch this at the German Embassy in Ankara, Turkey, it was quite entertaining. I remember on the cab ride home my Turkish cab driver was crying lol. Turkey played very well though props to them

Die Türkei hat sich im gesamten Turnier einen großen Namen gemacht und auch gegen uns eine herausragende Partie gespielt.Zumindest für die EM 2008, bleiben die Türken für mich unter den Top 3 der Angstgegner! Das stimmt....das währe ein perfektes Finale gewesen...hier wurde echt alles geboten. Hier konnte man nur gewinnen wenn man sich wirklich anstrengt. Hut ab an beide Teams

Ich weiß noch, als ich das Spiel als kleiner Racker geguckt hab. Heute wie damals ein verdammt spannendes Spiel gewesen und eines meiner Lieblingsspiele jemals. Kroatien vs Türkei war da vielleicht noch n Ticken nervenaufreibender! Beides tolle Spiele gewesen mit purer Leidenschaft.

god the turks showed so much heart! playing basically with majority of first 11 out.
Turkey lost this match because they scored their second goal early in 85’. Previously they were beating their opponents in last seconds, with shocking and paralyzing comebacks, Switzerland in 90+2’ with Arda Turan, Czechia in 87’ and 89’ with Nihat Kahveci, and Croatia in 120+2’ with Semih Şentürk’s goals (after penalty shootouts) without giving the opponent a second chance. Against Germany, when Semih scored, I felt something weird is going on, this is not supposed to be the goal minute. And this time Germany did what Turkey did to others.
This Match was the best of this Euro 2008 😊❤👍

I love how even Rustu the 90 year old GK notched an assist in the dying seconds vs Croatia. Nothing about that Turkish team could be scripted, including Volkan's red card seconds after turkey came back from 2 goals to beat Czech 🇨🇿 it was just madness.

Sabri at RB for Turkey literally sets up 2 shots that are cannoned off the post or bar in the first 15 minutes, then later on assists Semi's equalizer. This turkish team were so full throttle. After the portugal game where they lost 2-0, Fati Terim changed a lot about the team's set up. They were so direct.

Crazy how long the Modric Croatia era went. I remember the buzz before Euro 2008 was all about Spain and Croatia. Modric delivered for the most part until his PK miss. People forget that croatia side humiliated this Germany side 2-1 in the group stage (it was a lot more one sided) and then turkey beat croatia and nearly beat Germany....a crazy tournament was Euro 2008

İstatistiklere bakınca macıda izleyince kaliteli takımdan daha kaliteli oynamışız iki yarıdada iki bireysel hata gol yememiz bizi bozmuş yoksa bu gazla alırdık kupayı.

This was such a special match I remember in the USA the power went out so they went to the broadcasting desk so I didn't get to see the last 2 goals but I was just as excited as a Germany supporter I have so much respect for this Turkish team great heart and will to win.

Although Türkiye played better in the match, Germany eliminated Turkey thanks to its experience. Actually, Turkey should have passed the Tour. It was Turkey's right to advance to the next round. 4 years ago, in 2002, Turkey came in 3rd place in the World Cup.

I remeber watching this game with my Dad, i have no idea how Turkey lost this game, all game long Turkey looked more dangerous and had many chances.
Turkey's tactic in this match was very solid and well prepared but they lacked good finishers. Not to mention defensive errors which led the first and last goals. Second was Klose's individual brilliance

I remember this game. I was 12 years old and this transition was really terrible. We miss at least 2 goals. But Lahm’s goal was great

Türkiye's Euro 2008 story is one of the greatest tournment story of the football history. There was little amount top class player at the team but there was a huge passion. At this game Turkey's literally third team played against full roster Germany. And played very well despite of loss. Sometimes even loosing seems cool. This was one of them

Yeah that's right but in turkish we say: an inofficial rule in football "if you don't score, the other team will score" This means that if you dont use so many chances then the other team will come and score a goal. Thrilling semi final tho

"deutschlaaand deutschlaaand, oh oh oh oh oh oh oh". all these fans and decoration. this nation is not a football nation anymore. i have literal tears in my eyes. those are real heavy emotional memories. when i look at the german team and its followers now its heartbreaking. we were such a great football nation. i am crying also the atmosphere and everything. the music induces heavy nostalgia from the 2000's. great memories

@@WONGLER lol Schwachsinn. Es ist einfach ein komplett normale Entwicklung irgendwann ein bisschen satt von der Mannschaft zu sein, vor allem wenn der Peak so hoch war. Dazu kommt das unangenehme Marketing rundum „die Mannschaft“ und die generelle Fehlentwicklung im Weltfußball und schon ist die Luft raus. Das wird spätestens bei der Heim-EM wieder anders sein

The first half belonged entirely to Turkey and the Mannschaft was lucky to go to the half time break with a tie. Very impressed by their game especially knowing that the other side was Germany. Who was Turkey's Coach?

I didn't find any reliable sources for comparing Podolski and Altintop, but if you compare the Fifa 2008 stats of the two players, Altintop has a slightly higher rating of 88 than Podolski with 87. But Hitzlsperger had the highest rating of the 3 players with 94... Well, as I said... whether one can really judge whether this is a good comparison or not? xD

this was probably the only game where Germany was so vurnarable against Turkish national team. and sadly almost half of the Turkish team was wheter injured or booked due to yellow cards previous games. surely heartbroken game. but it was the best tournament so far IMO.

turkish national team fell off after 2008. Quite sad to be honest. This turkish national team played with heart, today's national team has young talents who are full of themselves and earn insane money. Germany hasn't been good since 2014 too, but compared to turkey, they still qualify for big tournaments. I also see the turkish league has been really really bad. Portuguese league has overtaken them even over the past 15 years.
I remember this game mostly because we in Serbia had a broadcast issue so we couldn't see Klose's goal. 🤣

@@Turkfrom33 We had only a frozen opening image still from Euro 2008 intro and writing down below "Sorry for interruption", while in up left corner we could see the time ticking and the current score and suddenly we see Germany scores. Then after the game, journalists said that it was Klose's goal that we couldn't see.

Turkey's team wasn't the best team in the tournament, in fact our team was quite average you can say, nothing compared to the world cup team, but what made me so proud is that this team played with passion and fight and that's what got us this far, I mean look at this game, almost our entire team was out injured or suspended, we only had like 5 subs on the bench, and we completely outplayed the Germans, the full time stats were insane a depleted Turkey had 15 shots with 9 on target against a full German team that's insane!

It was one of the strongest German national team ever against a second team of Turkish national team. Due to red and yellow cards and injuries Turkish team was absent. It was prime times of Klose, Podolsky, Schweinsteiger and Ballack. And in Turkish middle field was so absent as Arda Turan, Nihat Kahveci, Emre Belözoğlu etc... Anyway it was amazing match, Turkish team played quite better than Germans but experience brings big advantage in difficult times.

That's how the 'powerful turkish' treat a friend of turks and fan of Turkey? Smearing his name? Maybe he has learned such behaviour from his turkish adviser and close friend. Or from his beloved Ozil? Or from his time in Turkey back in the 90s when he won the turkish championship as a coach and brought German football knowhow to Turkey... Who knows. But what I know is that there are no other Germans doing such things and that the Germans hated on him for it and wanted him out of the national team after that incident.

In comparing Germany teams 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016 in my opinion this 2008 was clearly the worst. They played only one really good game and that was not a surprise as they always beat Portugal. 2014 was the best, closely followed by 2010 (Löws tactical mistake in semifinal maybe cost the final) and 2006, 2012 and 2016 on par. 2012 again Löws horrible tactical mistake cost the match against Italy. In 2006 they lost Frings before the semi and 2016 they were unlucky against France in an surely winnable match. But this 2008 team left me cold even if they got to the final.
Germany of 2012 was superior. That team is very close to the one of 2014
