    • Finnish also were very lucky with there nature and weather, and also with the time, when the tanks and artillery weren't very strong, so they couldn't destroy the Finnish bunkers, unlike in 1944, when Red army destroyed finns in 2 weeks

    • Well, it's still not about the winter, but about the line of defense (and the German military advisers, who actively helped the Finns and England, also supported Finland). But with all this, the USSR occupied the Mannerheim line, we should not forget about the fact that as soon as the Line of Defense was surrendered, the Finns began to suffer serious losses (by the way, this war in Russia is not called the Winter War, but simply the Soviet-Finnish one).

    • Actually Soviet Union won this war, It was game between Europe countries and soviet union about help when Germany turns agressive. Stalin estimated that if he does full invasion of Finland, while Europe countries wouldn't fight on side of Finland, Germany can start fight against soviet union without any interference of Europe countries using casus belli of Finland liberation. So while actual reasoning of war from soviet side was done (move Finland borders from Leningrad), more practical was to put end to this war ASAP. And, what about casualties, well, Mannerheim line was nothing to joke about and bruteforcing it was a really-really bad idea.

    • @@thejfk_experience490 Well, totally no. After Mannerheim line was broken, Red army pushed 20km forward to Helsinki in 2 days and with such dynamics city would be under siege in 3 days days more worst case. So for total occupation of Finland even Finland generals gave a week.

    • Обяснить почему советский Союз понёс такие потери в этой войне довольно просто. Во время революции сменили всё, строй политический режим сместили старых начальников и поставили новых. И армия не стала исключением. В итоге армия оказалась наполнена молодыми офицерами и солдатами которые попросту не знали как воевать, на руках у них была лишь теория и никакой практики. А фины выступили против СССР в качестве партизан, засады набеги и тому подобное. С подобным движением не удалось справиться даже германии, но в СССР, а советская армия без опыта справиться с подобным не могла это уж точно. Но, говорить что СССР недооценила Финляндию попросту глупо, я бы даже сказал идиотски. Потому что потери в войне доказывают что СССР воспринял своего противника максимально серьёзно и направил туда много сил что бы справиться с финами.

There more to it than "yeah they got communism" Finland lost in some capacity the second time too, Provinces they fought so hard to protect were taken and also they weren't attacked by two superpowers at the same time and they weren't fucked by their allies like Poland was, they kinda were The ones fucking (they were allied to Germany and then turned 180 and went against them)
