If police that yall claim are doing nothing make you nervous. Maybe reevaluate your life. The only time i ever felt anxious around police was when i was doing dirt

      @Chi-cd3ke@Chi-cd3ke29 күн бұрын
    • @@Chi-cd3ke You’re not thinking critically. No one is nervous of police themselves no one said that but the fact that your brain has went there shows me a lot about u and how u think. The police presence is what makes people nervous because the police being there usually means that something went down or something is wrong especially if they are walking around armed. People walking around taking defensive or offensive measures doesn’t tend to make people feel safe it actually makes them feel that danger is near and that’s what she is talking about and that’s what the surveyed people in New York have stated as well. Speaking for yourself is speaking for yourself you are one person and we are talking about a city full of people that have spoken about the police presence in the subway making them feel unsafe and this has been documented as she stated in the video. It has nothing to do with being guilty and wanting to duck police because of “doing dirt” that is so stupid and such a simple way of looking at things.

      @SalamHerbs-db5nt@SalamHerbs-db5ntАй бұрын
    • @@SalamHerbs-db5nt this made no sense lol. If the people have actual control of their lives, they would not ask for free stuff because there would be no one to ask. They would produce their basic needs themselves. There would be no state, because there would be no institution by which some social class has control over another. Majority rule can be addressed in numerous ways (giving minority groups veto power over decisions that directly affect them, cosensus or consent based democracy, and so on). The state is the problem. But the solution to the alienation of the state is real communal decision making.

The slaves have no control over their lives, and the ruling class doesn't care what the slaves want. • @@rachelspence2339 glad we can have a casual dialogue, i appreciate you reciprocating the sentiment! i definitely don't deny that every individual has the capacity to improve themselves, to improve their lives, and their community; i just think that there are so many systemic issues that we really need to come together to deal with too. personally, i think the reason why things seemingly get worse no matter who's in office is because, to a certain extent, it doesn't matter; people have no tools to hold them accountable. there's nothing letting us really affect the way anything is handled, only the people who handle it; unions are probably our most powerful tool to pressure government into doing anything, and nyc has a history of union busting ranging all the way back to the late 1800s in brooklyn. when you add to that the nature of how wealthy people continue to accumulate more and more money, giving them more political sway, giving them more opportunities to further exploit workers to make even MORE money, and it becomes very clear why everything seems to continuously get worse overall. this may be optimistic or naive, but i genuinely think most crime is not born from misguided people but the terrible conditions they have to endure, poverty drives people to steal, a lack of mental health resources drive people to do all sorts of things, and budget cuts reducing the aid we can offer whomever may be in need, in favour of lining some police chief's pockets, is nothing short of tragic.

  • Wait! I am puzzled. The panel seems to berate The Mayor for staffing more police in the subway system although he might posit the subways are safer. His position seems to challenge the public perceptions that more police presence in the subways makes the public feel less safe because of over policing??? So, is the young lady challenging The Mayor for his feelings that the subways are safer and he staffed more officers to protect riders although officers might do more stop and frisks??? And, is she and the hosts also questioning the recent polls showing a disconnect between perceptions of overall safety of New Yorkers with the mayor believing more safety exists and citizens feeling less safe??? I sense the young lady and the hosts are too combative and not really listening to this Mayor.
