This customer’s attitude changed the price…

All I knew about this job was that I was going to get a dead backhoe loaded up and hauled to the dealership. So I gave a price, got the rollback fired up, and headed out to the ranch to see what I was getting into. After getting the backhoe loaded the customer came out and started talking to me, and it didn't take long until her attitude changed the price for this job.

  • This is actually our neighbor! Her and her daughter run that whole property like 100ish acres just the two of them, it’s pretty incredible! Cattle, mini horses, chickens, moving pipe, the older gal she’s on that backhoe all the time moving hay around! Glad you were able to help them and I’m sure she/they were SO appreciative of your help whether they ended up paying or not:)

  • The reason she's 93 and still going is because she has a farm to run everyday which provides a reason to get up every morning and get it done. Those cows don't care how young or old the person is providing feed and hay and water daily. Hard work adds years to mental alertness; being in the fresh air and sunshine adds health to a body. God bless her and you as well.

I've showed her how to get the rider and the push mower going, and got the snowblower going for her but that one was out of her comfort zone. She hired a guy to do the driveway, and I make sure the paths are clear to her door and to the car. I try to beat her out there so she doesn't have to shovel at all, but dang that lady gets up early!

She used to mow the lawn, had to be over an acre. She would also monitor the cattle from the neighbor as her farm had the water tank. The water tank would grow ice in the winter and algae in the summer which a few suckers from the stream thrown in would help keep it in check. Today's adventure made me think of her on the farm,

Fixing fences, removing downed trees, cutting some firewood, my price was always a couple hours of fishing their tank or getting to cart off a stack of firewood and a cup of coffee. • Recently your video started popping up in my general feed. I've watched a few of them all the way through now and I want to let you know that I have learned a few things just from the few videos I watched. With this video I've learned what I would need to do if I need to move a backhoe. The last video taught me what I needed to do to move a class a RV with air brakes. That's good information because I'm building a heavy hauler for campers and a big car hauler out of one of those RVs. I don't have the experience on these things so watching your videos is very educational

  • Ya' got me. I thought the video title meant that someone's bad attitude or lies changed the price - UP. And now I see that instead I've found a new Knight to follow! First of all, I'm an ex Caterpillar Sales Manager from way back; I've seen a lot of equipment moved at jobsites, some good and some bad! Those skills you demonstrated moving this piece are truly impressive. (Sweet truck - great organization!) And your attention to detail, (as well as the great narration and camera work) had me subscribed, liking this and turning on notifications before you had the hoe loaded. You even explained over-center correctly. Props to you! I'm not in the postion to 'do Patreon' but I might break that for your channel Casey. Wow. You really are genuinly charitable and benevolent. I LOVE your idea for the use of Patreon. I hope more viewers read that. Then I think there would be more correct guesses of what you ultimately charged this nice lady - zero. And I'm making that guess - even now, because I'm in BC and I would proudly wear your T-shirt and hat and hopefully run into an existing client of yours - or send you new ones. Mad Respect from a new subscriber in BC.

  • Casey! I'm now retired after nearly 30yrs being around or behind the wheel of big trucks, OTR as well as equipment transport last 10yrs before retiring. Watching you work, your attention to details and safety, pointing out what and why the moves made loading equipment and safe binding practices, a great example. I hope there are some up and coming young drivers see and follow this example.

  • Having watched a few of your videos I'm impressed with your knowlege about so many types of equipment and the amount of problem solving required for each removal. "All I did was load a backhoe." YEAH! How many people could do that? No idea what that would cost, so no T-shirt or hat for me!
