IT'S DONE!
This took an absurd amount of time but I'm glad it's actually finished! :'D
I've never done anything like this before as this is my first animatic, but I'm pretty pleased on how it turned out!
Disclaimer: some character designs and life count may be wrong, and there may be a few details I missed out. Sorry for that :'(
Context : Last Life SMP. For those who haven't watched it, basically, everyone spawns inside a small Minecraft world, and are assigned a random amount of lives from 2-6 at the start. A Player with 3+ lives has a green name (or eyes in this animatic), and with 2 lives, has a yellow name, while a player with 1 life has a red name. Red names are hostile and all alliances are cut when one becomes red. When a player dies on their red name, they're out of the series. Each session, the server will randomly assign someone to be the bogeyman, whose task is to kill someone yellow or green during the session, else on the next session, they will automatically become red name. Players are allowed to give lives to another. Last player standing wins :)
GoodtimeswithScar, or Scar in short, is one of the players lucky enough to acquire 6 lives from the start, and even became 7 as the series progressed. He is a crafty and cunning wizard up in his Magical Mountain, selling magical crystals and other trinkets to people around him. Scar also possesses the Enchanter, the most powerful item in the series and used it to his advantage. Despite his wealth, Scar lived alone and had no allies, especially after his fellow wizard Smallishbeans(Joel) became a red life. Desperate to have someone, Scar was ready to give everything he had, even selling his lives to red names on the promise that they will be his allies. But, after an accident at the Southlands that made him a red life, he slowly realized that no one was really there for him, and that his cruel world deserved nothing but death and fire.

  • Holdup, your FIRST animatic?? Sooo good my dude you did an amazing job! I never realised how well this song fit thematically with Scar’s Last Life story so well! The pacing was great, all those transitions amazing and I loved all the little watcher details you speckled here and there! Loved it! :D

  • Brilliant. I think this sort of embodies why Scar didn’t do as well in Last Life in comparison to 3rd Life. I think we all know his greatest weapon is his silver tongue. But he needs allies to truly capitalise on that. And by episode 2 he was basically alone.

  • This was an absolute joy to watch. I'd never have thought to use this song for Scar but it fits him so well, and matches the frivolous nature of his character despite his circumstances and solitude. The scenes are so dynamic and creative as well, especially with Scar placing the tnt while dancing to the music and Etho picking it back up. But that's just one specific moment, I adored the whole thing. You can really see the progression of your skill as the animatic went on, as well. This is so so underrated

  • Dang what an incredible take on the last life story! I loved the transition of Scar from being a fun but lonely character to his red life rage arc, and that end genuinely gave me chills! You actually made Scar seem cool (lol), and the music choice fit incredibly well. An amazing first attempt, hope to see more like this soon.

  • What incredible animation!!! There's so much inspiration in this, from the different camera angles to the little transitions before the chorus (SO CUTE!!!) And I gotta congratulate you for finishing it all the way!! I think one of the hardest things of working on animatics/animations is actually getting them done all the way through (speaking from experience here LOL) Be proud!! You've made something absolutely awesome! I predict myself coming back to watch this many times in the future :D

  • I'm not sure if this was intentional, but centering on Cleo sitting in the fairy forest when they say "fires so violent" was a cool detail This video also shows that even though Scar appears a little bad at the game sometimes, like drowning in Scott's tower, he can talk anyone into anything, like when Grian and Joel were literally holding him at gunpoint and THEY ended up in a one-sided deal skewed toward HIM

  • 3:03 nice touch with the watcher eyes! it's a small detail that makes a big difference. Your colour usage is epic as well, drawing the eye towards the important bits, while still having lots of detail in the background. also 1:59 Etho LOL!

  • Coming to this animatic over from Secret Life, I gotta say that this is just amazing. I have kind of done some looking back at previous series and realized that Scar has had one hell of an arc to get to his first series win. In Third Life he relied heavily on Grian, and he knew that he would from the beginning, so he trapped Grian in a bit of a social contract from day one to keep him by his side. But in Last Life he lost his crutch, and you could see the learning curve that took him on- having to fend for himself, lean even more into his salesman self, building his own traps. This animatic really encapsulstes that bridge of learning through solitude that brought him from his skill level in Third Life to his skill level in Double Life and beyond.
