My brother is an orthopedic-pediatric surgeon and has done this on a couple kids already! It amazes me on the progress of these patients as their young brain readjusts to the heel as a knee now, and they can play all sorts of sports and still be little kids running and playing! My bro is amazing!

All jokes aside the fact that this surgery is possible is a modern medical miracle. The amount of precision it takes to not only keep the vein and artery but also the NERVE intact. Not to mention the quality of life difference for patients who now have the option to have a functional knee joint, AND being able to put weight on an ankle inside that prosthetic instead of a stump. Decreased pain, increased mobility and independence. That's amazing.
