The Sims 4 is getting a dose of Supernatural gameplay with the upcoming release of the Sims 4 Paranormal Stuff Pack on January 26, 2021. This ghostly pack features a new Medium skill, Paranormal Investigator career, seances, and a haunted house lot type you can use to make any place spooky. I'll summarize everything we know about the pack, so you can decide if you will get excited or not.

Interesting pack but I really wish that the ghosts we're actually scarier these ghosts are too cutesy and look like they belong in Luigi's mansion.

It just feels like every single pack they release for 4 is half assed. 3 felt like every expansion added so much to the game. Pets added cats, dogs and horses. I actually really enjoyed Supernatural. I liked all the new life states, although they really needed to be expanded upon. I feel like mermaids and aliens in The Sims 4 should’ve been more robust like spell casters or vampires. I’d love to see more playable occult lifestates be introduced. But make them more interesting than they can talk to dolphins and make it rain. I’m also a little bummed that they went the cute route instead of the more scary route. Sure, I know kids play this but I grew up on Poltergeist and even in Ghostbusters the ghosts were often times scary. Like the bitch in the library.

I remember in sims3 they had a ghostbusters career! 😁But yeah, I agree with you 100% I was one of the people who voted for happy haunts (which I guess is what this became) but its still a watered down version of it. It should've been a game pack. Or a whole entire supernatural expansion but instead they wanted to split it up into this, Realm of magic, and vampires to get more money. Also, whats with the boho aesthetic they're going for? Thats not even scary! And they've done it 100 other times in other packs.

I miss horses and minor pets. I used to play the Sims 4 all the time, but when I couldn't control my cats or dogs, couldnt ride my horses around the town, couldnt pick up a random bird off of the ground and decide "this is my pet now", I was a bit hurt.. Edit: I also forgot to mention how you could actually watch your sim drive/ride to work, go into the building, leave the building, and you'd also be able to move babies around, and they also ruined Sims 4 with the painting, In the sims 3, starting out painting is drawing a stick figure and giving it color. In sims 4, your sim makes this lovely drawing, but it's their very 1st painting.
For some reason they seem to think that we want quantity over quality, its really annoying. Sometimes I feel like they take us loyal simmers for granted and that they are just testing ideas out on us. I hope all this "research" they seem to be doing on us will pay off in the Sims 5

Why do I keep picturing Judith Ward showing up as a psychic medium? She’ll just show up uninvited just to make her usual appearance in another place that isn’t Del Sol Valley.

I disagree, having the seance table already pushes the religious/belief envelope just a little, but within reason. Tarot cards would have pushed too far. Belief systems are not something out of the game entirely, nor should they be, but really should not be so specific.

@@samanthafisher3308 Chill a little there my dude. Religious sensitivity is a thing, and Sims is a game that has to worry about it sometimes. That said, I don't know any witches/pagans/etc who would be offended if Sims 4 included tarot, and I think it would be a stretch to call any simified version (which would probably just be vague "fortune telling" with some cards) religious. About on the same level of seasons having a Christmas tree.

Vampires ghost where wolves witches fairy’s and zombies were all in one pack for the sims 3. Just a reminder no reasoning.
Ghost were not in the Supernatural pack, they came long before. Vampires were first introduced before Supernatural, too. Only werewolves, witches, and fairies came with the pack, as it were - those and the ability to make supernaturals in CAS.
@@cayreet5992 I think certain types of ghost/ cas ghosts were in supernatural (I could be wrong I only played sims 1&2 before 4)

Vampires came with Late Night, along with bands. I believe ghosts were in base game, but I don't really remember. But yeah, we got fairies, werewolves, witches and zombies, and whole ghost families in Supernatural. The first thing I did in Sims 4 was to recreate my fairy rock star... but 7 years in, he's STILL waiting for his wings & gigs. sigh
@@cayreet5992 This is true, but if you didn't have Late Night, which first introduced Vampires, then you got Vampires with Supernatural. So technically, you were getting the full supernatural experience in one pack.
I saw Paranormal and was expecting a game pack with a large update to the existing ghost "life stage" and got hyped for all of two seconds. Then saw stuff pack and then the little wee ghost void critters. What a shame. Ah well, maybe the next one will be interesting to me.
This is why I don't like the idea of The Sims 4 graphic and aesthetic as part of 'perfect sims game formula'. Its makes everything look cute and silly, to the point that pointy looking and jagged edge of Sauron or any stereotipical bad guys would look like a pokemon. A ghost is always interesting because they're mysterious or even dreadful, who know what they gonna do to us if we encounter them in a haunted place. This is a powerful experience, something that The Sims 2 nailed it, while The Sims 3 kinda missed it even with ghost buster career in Ambition. I wish there's more serious tone in The Sims 4 gameplay aspect, something that allow us to play with the darker side of the game, its edgy and bad without left us with a feeling of cringe.

Exactly same though. Even Sims 2 now looks way more serious than what it is now. And back then when I was a child, I thought Sims 2 was looking way too much cartoony, but now when we compare with Sims 4, it looks serious and adult. I especially hate the over cartoony animations in Sims 4 that make everything looking light and not serious. And now, those "ghosts" look like Pokemon.
Bet this is the same people who complain/traumatized a mere murphy bed kills their sim, smh 🙄

The cute white thing reminds me with Boo from Mario / Luigi mansion. I don't get it why they went for spooky cute theme instead of scary dark theme.
Because the cute themes sell way more than scary themes. Like how gamer freak modified pokemons in more cute style.
I think its also easier to model. I had never sculpted. Mine has the wrong smile, and many other imperfections but it was literally the first thing I ever sculpted in blender and came out all right because it's just a lump with a couple appendages and a face tacked on.
Cause: - They are lazy as f to model something more interesting/scary - They chose something simple to model cause it makes everything simple for them - Cause they don't want to offense anyone with "scary" thing / too afraid to lose children players on the way - It's more comfortable marketingly speaking to stay in that comfort zone of "cute/silly" things. - They don't care about making the game actually interesting / out of comfort zone.
T rating or something. Honestly dont know why they dont want to go all the way. Hopefully someone could mod the ghost so they look better.
I know not to get my hopes up when it comes to Sims 4 traits, but some of the ones I can think of at the top of my head for this pack: - phasmaphobic (scared of ghosts) - ghost seeker (loves ghosts) - ghost magnet (ghosts just love to be around the sim, but the sim hates it?) And since it's a stuff pack, I won't expect any of these to be included.
I feel like if this were a game pack it would be way more likely that we could expect these, again just a shame that it’s only a stuff pack. Such great ideas!
@@yasminm2103 such a shame! Like Carl said, the idea behind this pack has sooo much potential. As a stuff pack, the gameplay/items presented seem pretty good but it can be so much more. A game pack is what this idea deserves 🥺
@@kittykatkittykatkitty I totally agree. Apart from journey to Batuu the game pack team usually kills it. Trying not to mourn the potential for this pack before it’s come out and we’ve had a chance to play it... but I can’t help it 😂😭
Even for an SP adding new traits isn't such a monumental feat that it should be left out. I agree about getting your hopes up but I do think we should expect thematic traits based on whatever the main pack's concept is. It is something they seemingly forgot to do or didn't feel was important enough, and it's part of the long term problems we experience now. Lack of meaningful personality traits would not be a thing if there were a couple on average in each of the 37 packs.
This is the kind of stuff I would have loved to get back when Spooky Stuff was released an eternity ago.
Watch some of the more positive fans get their hopes up for this pack, then be disappointed after a few hours of playing it. Ah, EA...

In my opinion, it was supposed to be a gamepack, but they turned it into a stuff pack so the fans doesn’t complain about the eventual lack of gameplay.

They do. I hate how childish they've made this game, considering it’s always been rated teen and used to be more mature. Also weirded out generally that the teen rating apparently says you can’t have alcohol...? I mean Sims Medieval had it, so I'm confused.
@@tonichan89 Litterally the only reson why this game is rated Teen is becuause of "whoohoo". Everything else can pass as 10+. Stardew Valley is way more mature than this game and doesn't even have 3D graphic's. The writing doesn't dump down it's audiance at all. 😂
@@soulight6091 True, I mean, even though zombies can rise and attack your sim in the Sims 3, In stardew valley, monsters you have encountered in the mines will come at night to greet you on your wilderness farm, and then actually kill you. Also being a zombie is apparently temporary.
I wish it was a game pack too. I was hoping for a Grim Reaper career.
There is a mod for that. It's on deviantart by Gauntlet. Just google "Sims 4 reaper career". I also got the other 2 mods mentioned in the description. I got a sim whos dad is the grimreaper, so she's also gonna be a reaper now. I tested it before playing and when a sim dies, sometimes she spawns. It's pretty awesome and up to date. :D Edit: To get it to work good. The grim reaper optionals mod by Gauntlet? It's basically so your own personal reaper doesn't have to get the reaper voice. So you need to add the voice and walkstyle to the grimreaper yourself after adding that mod. For that I recommend Chingyu's more traits mod on patreon, for free. So you just add the traits back to the real grim reaper.

I was really excited for this pack because I thought it was going to include the Grim Reaper career. Honestly, ghost hunters is not a big enough selling point for me.

I think I getting tired of the Sims 4, specially after installing Skyrim. While both games gameplay could get repetitive I found Skyrim a little more entertain because it feels more like playing, and less like doing a mechanical order of things like in the Sims 4. Sometimes building and playing your sims feels more like a chore, a work. I know is a weird thing to compare an action/roleplaying game with Sims 4, but hey, they have a lot in common... like the insane amount of load screens every damn time you need to go back to a house inside a town (a total of 4 damn loading screens to get inside and outside).
Oh man, the load scenes make me want to start drinking again
I went back to 4 after playing 2 for a year and I realised that I hate CAS (not the items and clothes but the controls and makeup, yack!!) The worlds also look lack luster in comparison.. safe to say I'll be sticking with 2 lmao
@@jasmineparisttv the CAS can be improved with custom sliders mods, but yeah, there a so many of them, I wasted enterie days looking for good ones.
@@ScudForEver or one could simply play TS3 with custom sliders instead. A game with interesting varied gameplay and not only machanical gameplay in an always happy LaLaLand :)

I wonder if sims will be able to die from it. If there's scared, and ghosts, it would be nice if there were also personality traits like courageous, or skeptic, or paranormal-believer or whatever.
again it looks like a heavy crutch on the emotion system. i can bet this also doesn't intertwine with the newly added memory system either. fully agreed this should have been a game pack with more work put in but with how disappointing game packs have been for the last few times now i think a stuff pack will perform better. i honestly dont understand the devs fear of not pumping in work into the base game, beefing up the basegame to make the game better would make more sales not less, warcraft shadowlands and no mans sky proved this by turning their current bland content into amazing content with a big rework
they don't because they don't have to. the morons will eat this pack up and bitch about it a week later, but EA will be sitting on all that cash by then. i wish everyone would quit spending their money on this game and all the useless packs so EA might focus on Sims 5, but at this rate, i think we'll never get Sims 5 because as far as EA can tell, the fans are still excited to buy Sims 4 packs. what incentive do they have to move on?

Ngl, Bonehilda was just a nice reminder of the sims makin magic which I'm going to revisit instead of buying this. Minus the g-slurs, it was absolute perfection. 😚👌

I also wanted them to expand Happy Haunts into a game pack with more of the offered features. But, I think after the fit that was thrown by some of the community about Eco being taken from a stuff pack concept to an Expansion... we won't be getting any more expanded concepts that we vote for. Which bites, this would have been a great game pack.

Heh, yeah. They usually give us 3-4m of stuff to talk about with about 50s of footage from a trailer that's usable, so I just toss some of my stuff into spots where we have nothing and sometimes make custom shots around an idea, like the graveyard.
The ghosts remind me of the spirits of the secret society in the university pack

As always, Carl, thank you for the reality-check style of review. I hope your break has gone well and that you are learning things that interest you and improve your daily musings. All the best! My biggest disappointment is that it is a January release. I really like the fact that I am able to more or less successfully avoid spooky/ghostly/creepy things except for September to October. Am hoping it is the only occult and (less hopefully hoping) only niche pack of 2021. It is nice to see that the Sims community can be pleasantly buzzing though.

The specter idea is weird to me because ghosts are people so...these are like...animals? Or something? I dunno. It looks like it might be a nice add-on to Realm of Magic but yeah, I'd be disappointed if it didn't add randomness to the game. Honestly, random events was what made the other Sims games fun. They presented new challenges to solve or just lots of comedy. Sims 4 is boring because nothing fucking happens unless the user makes it happen, not even with NPC's. There's still no game in the game. Until they fix that, I don't see how any of these expansions or stuff packs will be more than a day or two of fun. I'll wait for actual play-through reviews before I decide if I want to buy. I've kind of given up on the game in general, but I'll reconsider if they actually release something good.

I remember back when Sims 4 first dropped that I thought we'd regularly get more complex emotions with each pack but I guess that was never considered until now.
I would have taken this as an expansion over snowy escape, which could very well have been a game pack

The Sims4 does not include, Burglars Ownable cars open world sandbox map Werewolves Genies Horses Interactive Elevators Vending machines Pool table Apartment lot type Spiral staircase Birdcage it's been 7 years and they are still pumping out garbage and the kids eat it up.

I'm pretty meh about the game play, and Bonehilda, although I'm VERY happy for all the simmers who wanted her back (cough Plumbella cough), but I'm looking forward to having the buy mode objects in my game. That couch! That plant! That sconce! Etc. I enjoyed your "fun with physics" animations throughout the video. They made me smile. :)
EA doesn't deserve your money just to add a few decor pieces to your game. go get you some CC. it's free, seamless, simple, and did i mention FREE?!
@@everwhat013 Oh, I will probably use this stuff pack to make a bundle with, or wait for a sale. I have plenty of CC, but I only upload CC-free builds to the gallery, so it's nice to have new deco in the game.
Might be wishful thinking, but I'm hoping that this is a kind of stepping stone that they'll build more on later. Seems like it could be a decent foundation for some future pack/expansion, lord knows people have been wanting more supernatural gameplay from the beginning. Not keeping my hopes _too_ high for anything on the same level as Sims 3 Supernatural, but maybe they'll add more onto the pile in the future? Maybe??? I'd also love to see more blending of packs and features, like unique ways for sorcerers and/or vampires to interact with the little Casper dudes or do special kinds of seances, maybe even depending on what level you're on. That'd be super fun to explore!
Unfortunately, the whole pack system basically means it's a "dump and forget" thing. There are few tie-ins between packs. Heck, they couldn't even add weather control to realm of magic, one of the staples of magic really. I also don't get why we needed pokemon ghosts when we already have actual ghosts in the game. I fear this will be a very isolated feature. 😌

Sorry to say but sim4 pack dont seem to really build and connect off each other. They are all mostly a standalone thing.
Yeah, I hear you. I'd have liked a full gamepack with graveyards and maybe a spooky world in addition to what's in this pack as well. I'm optimistic since they're adding fear as an emotion to the base game before this pack launches - a bunch of tense moodlets are getting overhauled. This pack might end up terrifying Sims to death even 😁
Well... that 'cute little ghost' sure looks a lot like the 'cute little ghost' in Animal Crossing... really a lot like it. Are they cousins? Not sure about this pack... but then I'm not sure about a lot of the packs for this game. It will be interesting to see what this one's really all about and how disappointed people are once they have it.
Don't worry, Carl! All the things you're lamenting about not being in this stuff pack will 100% be part of some cash grab game or expansion pack somewhere down the line.

I hope that its going to be good but I have my share of... concerns. I love cute-creepy mix things, so I like the little ghost dudes! they're neat and they shake up the visuals a little, which is something I feel the game desperately needs sometimes. Hopefully the skill and career are interesting... but beyond that I have some concerns. The build items that they showed look far from haunting to me. If they fit with the cute-creepy mix that'd be one thing, but they feel more like a My Little Pony play set that attempted to have some vaguely Victorian looking toy furniture. I really hope that gameplay wise this has at least something. a huge shame this wasnt an actual game pack, and I'm definitely worried that the median skill is going to basically just be "ooo spooky chair floated for 5 seconds" or that it will just unlock a bunch of ultimately useless interactions with ghost sims or something.
I hate how the little ghosts look like voidcritters. The rest has a nice aesthetic. But that's all the sims 4 does well... aesthetics. I get the impression that the foundation of the game itself, how it’s coded or whatever, is forever in the way of making anything good of the sims 4. They are flex-taping a broken clock every time they release something.
Don't even play the game anymore but i watch and like all your vids keep up the good work.
Your videos are visually pleasing. There are times I'd wish EA and the Guru's would reach out more to certain individuals for added ideas in some of the content for these packs.

As an occult player, Im just happy we FINALLY got an SP geared toward occult play. (spooky sp doesnt count! Its just costumes!) I was really hoping for grim reaping career, but I'll get some fun out of this.

I'm excited for the new career I love the interactive careers like doctor and actor, and paranormal investigator looks like it is one I'm guessing you get called to other Sims homes to clean up the supernatural messes.
I for one am interested, but yes, bearing in mind it's a stuff pack. It's actually a stuff pack on steroids considering the other stuff packs they've released.. LOL! I also am glad you took a bit of a break, I haven't watched much since the Snowy Escape review. I am now ready to watch the missed episodes, and totally look forward to you next offerings. Those ghost look like a plushie I would buy my little one. They are indeed cute. That doll is more spooky than the ghost. I really like the new hairs though. 😍
I didn't even think of the graveyard thing until you mentioned it. I've made my own, but not the same thing. One thing that gets me is BitLife has haunted houses with varied ghosties/specters etc but the Sims doesn't?! Again, I didn't think of this until you mentioned it. I think it'd be funny to have a random encounter where your Sim wakes up to the walls dripping blood. But I guess that would push the rating beyond teen or something. But we get Guidry who looks like ghost Johnny Depp, so that's cool. And there's a creepy doll, so there's that.
You could get a similar effect with some kind of spectral ooze coming out of the walls, it'd be freaky enough. I definitely think this idea could be pushed really hard with lots of things like that, because with few unique events it will be kind of boring quickly. I want some content that you can only experience as you play for a good while. I probably should make a video about that.
You've a good point re. the amount of quality that might be in this cheap pack (positively) - could this hint at the Sims ramping up the quality of the packs? Like, does that mean this is the cheapest pack but higher quality than before, then game packs and expansions might offer so much more too! There're defo been expansion packs before that felt cool but empty too! hmmm

Yeah don’t see how the sims turned into this half shell of a game I think it’s the gaming industry in-general DLC really shifted how they sell games now a days and it sucks what happened to good quality games

I am definitely thinking about doing another one, I just want to do so whenever I am sure I can see it through to the end again. It'd be slower going now as I'm a bit more picky about things but I'd hope to make it more enjoyable this time. More will definitely happen, just not sure when I will start or what I'll pursue.

For a moment I thought that we will had the ghost hunter profession back, it was my favourite! It looks like another objects pack, at least it will improve the immersion of my vampire Sims.

Possession would be an excellent mechanic. I've wanted it for a long time ever since The Sims 2 Playstation port allowed you to temporarily possess other Sims to have them do the chicken dance. Permanently possessing another Sim could be another means to come back to life. Possessing someone to come back to life is quite common in fiction, so I'm not sure how EA hasn't toyed with the idea yet given they have _so many_ ridiculous ways of resurrecting Sims. This would be one of the more interesting/fun ones. You could possess your arch-nemesis, your love interest, your best friend, a pet, some kind of supernatural monster, and I bet the Grim Reaper would demolish you if he finds you cheating death like that, given their years of soul-reaping experience. Heck, try possessing the Grim Reaper as a last-ditch effort when they come for you only to have your butt handed to you and get sent directly to the netherworld, no questions asked. It could result in many entertaining situations. What if a ghost tries to possess another ghost? Would they fuse together to become a new ghost Sim that has the combined qualities of both ghosts? It could horribly backfire. What if you possess a computer and spread through the ethernet cable to the web, like some kind of Shin Megami Tensei knock-off, only to realise you have to duke it out with anti-virus software to avoid getting deleted since you're now data? Desperately attempt to bring your Sim back to life, only to realise the only option to reunite your them with their family is by having them take over a stray animal? Just imagine the possibilities.
I'm eagerly awaiting your review - hopefully featuring Judith, Mila Munch, Nancy and "Mom" 🤣 .. I probably won't buy this any time soon, I'm not feeling particularly bored with the game atm, so don't need more stuff, but I don't see myself going for the séance and haunted stuff anyways and would probably just use the CAS and build & buy items. Those look okay, but not so great I'll throw my money at EA right away.

aaand this is why we don't get nice things from EA. they throw you a pebble and you throw them your money. $10 for a stuff pack that contains exactly one item that you want which is almost certainly going to be underwhelming and disappointing and definitely going to be buggy.

Can someone call the sims office and tell them they fucked up with this one? They could've made it way cooler, make the sim ghost invisible to regular sims but the medium sims can communicate. Let the dead sims be the ghost, why a weird flying blob? I'm glad I quit paying for the sims when 4 came out because it would've been a waste of money.
Absolutely. It's ridiculous... Making the ghosts at least invisible to the regular sims would have been something cooler. But of course, EA doesn't give a f at all to the "possibily interesting ideas" and prefer I don't know...To screw up everything like usual.
What I've always wanted is ghosts to be visible to the player, but only visoble to medium Sims, which would be a trait or secret trait.
They wont care because people will still buy it.

Is your page up to date on S4 illnesses. I failed twice following the brief stuff the is. Might be the game, but weird. I though I be alright diagnosis a kid with Llama flu when seeing the blotches. Marcus Flex had star after the test to decide among too, but was not starry eyes.
