  • I love watching vehicles get stuck in the snow. Don't know why. Thanks for the video, it's entertaining.

  • The jeep had all 4 wheels locked to the engine output, so they ALL were pulling equally, but it appears that he/she was not using SOFT-Rubber winter tires, and was probably using all-season tires instead. The rubber of those all-season tires gets hard in freezing temps and it slides like a hockey-puck. That is the main reason why you need to switch over to winter tires in the winter. But after 4 to 5 winter seasons, even winter tires become 'WORK HARDENED', and they too need to be replaced when their treads are worn down to about half of their new tread depth. When that happens, just keep them on in the spring and wear them down through the summer months, thus saving your regular tires from that wear, and buy new winter tires in the fall. That's what we do up here in Canada.

    • Even though it does lock the front and rear differential the front and rear axles are still open meaning power will go to the rear wheel with least resistant and same for the front. The front and rear driveshafts are always moving but in low traction situations you can end up with one front and one rear tire spinning while the others do nothing. What hapened with the jeep is the right tire on the front probably had grip so it did nothing and the rear right had traction and also did nothing so the left side tires threw the jeep to the right and into the ditch. Thats why lockers are a great investment when one wheel spins faster than the other on the same axle is locks them both together giving you a completely equal power split.

      @cjhawk67@cjhawk679 жыл бұрын
    • cjhawk67 Hence why the Liberty with traction control went up the hill like it was dry pavement. You don't need lockers when you have traction control, it uses the brakes to load up the wheel with less traction sending power to the opposite.

      @xIntoThePitx@xIntoThePitx9 жыл бұрын
    • xIntoThePitx Thats true to a point but there is a limit to how well brake traction limited slip works.

    • Walter - 100% agree with you on snow tires, I use these in California. Before you say anything, it's for Mountain use in winter months. and yes, we get up hills, trails, in up to 24 inches of snow without too much fuss. It baffled me last year, at the start of a steep incline, I was the only one the Sheriff's department let through. I read the code and act on it. Hundreds do not and wonder why they are stopped by police. As you know, the tires cost the same as normal tires, and can run on roads like any other tires. They look like normal tires. If anyone is reading this - go to ti-re ra-ck dot com or anywhere else and see them for yourself.

    • its not even that can happily drive on snow with summer tyres along as you know how to drive in the snow. don't keep the wheels spinning use a tiny amount of power and try to avoid slowing down going up hill keep the same speed. people assume 4x4 are great in the snow but even a good 4x4 can't deal with an idiot at the wheel

      @richardwayne1990@richardwayne19908 жыл бұрын
    • +richardwayne1990 On snow, yes. The problem here is the ice layer beneath the snow. Not even winter tires are enough there, if they aren't studded.

    • +ziiofswe Studded tires are illegal in many areas

      @FCFordLord@FCFordLord8 жыл бұрын
    • +FCFordLord Proper winter tires doesnt mean studded tires. Snow tires made specially for snow and ice, with the "Snowflake on a mountain" marking. Example the new Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2. Best studdless winter tire in the world

      @glennkullberg9370@glennkullberg93708 жыл бұрын
    • @@glennkullberg9370 but even the best studless tires don't compare to good studded snow tires. Studded tires will cut through the ice and get traction in areas that studless tires will spin out. I know this from personal experience and will only run studded tires in the winter now.

    • During snow driving, the vehicle shouldnt have anymore power than the driver does brains!! The subaru does have an amazing awd system combined with limited power which in this case helps it crawl through snow. The XJ would have made it as well but the driver had limited brains which in this case helped in no way, shape, or form lol. And the blazer... well we`ll just assume the 4wd was kicking in and out due to poorly designed 4wd vacuum mechanisms.

  • Tires make a big difference in traction. Several years ago a 4 wheel drive Jeep was stuck in the snow in front of the neighborhood grocery store. I pulled it out with my 2 wheel drive Ranger. The Jeep had poor tires and my Ranger had great winter tires. Last winter I installed off road tires on my newest Ford Ranger which is 2 wheel drive and with extra weight in the bed I drove through 18" of snow without getting stuck.

So when this Completely unexpected, snow storm came through, no one expected more than some frozen mix. But it snowed about 1ft (i know thats tiny compared to some places but here, its like 1/100 chance). It had not snowed for a very long time, so people on the roads completely forgot how to deal with it. Lets just say it was chaos on the roads. (the snow is still here not and will melt slow because of a cold spell.)

    • True comment, slow - even with AWD, snow tires and hill descent control, the only way you can make it sometimes is slowly. Sheet ice defies all traction devices. Even if the worst occurs, going slowly 5-10 mph will minimize the effect of the unexpected slip. For idiot cars I like the Range Rovers the best. They always fly past. Caught one on fire 2 days ago. I hope some day you get stuck in snow, and the others will just stand by and watch with a smile as you did it while filming.
