Every year sees the launch of beautiful new fabric collections that get hearts racing across the interiors world. Our new series 'Uncommon Threads' looks at the collaborations and creative processes that make the collections possible. In our first episode, we join Luke Edward Hall at his London flat to find out about the patterns he has designed for distinguished Italian textile house Rubelli, including a vivid reworking of an archive chintz in a rich lilac shade, and how his own characteristic style of art informed this playful, joyful collection.

  • This guy speaks my mind and my language. I buy yards of fabric because I like the design and feel. I don’t make anything, just the joy of touching and enjoying my fabric stash. Furniture and drapery fabric is usually robust and thick, so luxurious. Quilting fabric and Homespun I also love to collect.

  • Gosh, it's all so beautiful. My 13 years aold daughter wants to become a fashion designer, but the lazy thing don't bother to have a close look to the stones when we walk at the mountains in France or the fruits in the trees in the Caribbean or even the blackberries in the country side in England. I told her one thing is to like dress to impress and another one is design nice stuff. But there you have, I keep pushing untill one day I give up 😅

  • Mr David Nicholls, deputy editor of ‘House and Garden’ (UK), designed a pictograph of stick-figure corpses arranged in a numbered grid of columns and rows. “Connect the Jews!” was his joke. Ask him about it. Ask him if it’s true. Because it is. That’s the kind of person who’s rating your bedsheets.

  • I think these fabrics prints are so bad, I can get better types of prints in the high street market...Sad to see an iconic brand had to choose a designer like him, with no connection whatsoever with the brand heritage. These prints are so childish and so not in line with the sophistication of the brand....how many times have I seen these motifs? way too many for my taste....reminds me of the TIGER SHOP.....my personal opinion...
