2 years ago I bought a 1986 BMW 635CSI from the US I wanted to restore and I remember as I was browsing and came across my car, I was listening to this song (one of my favorite disco-ey songs). Fast forward to this summer, I have fully restored and modded the car to be lower and more powerful and added a bit more power to the stereo, all hidden out of sight, looking OEM. The first driving song I picked was this. I wanted to cruise through my neighborhood with this blasting from my slick 80s mobile. As I fired up that '86 BMW in white, with style 32 wheels, black leather interior and Euro bumpers and I started playing the song, I had shivers down my spine and a tear in my eye. I had my dream 80s car and was listening to my favorite 80s music on a hot, sunny summer day. I felt like I was a hotshot in 1980s Miami in my white 635CSI. Absolutely magnificent moment! Spent the rest of the drive listening to 80s stuff and some Eurodance. It was amazing. Then it started raining and as I tried closing the windows, the driver's window regulator failed and I was soaking wet by the time I got home. But I still had a smile on my face! That's the power of great music!

I understand this was song in the movie 'Buster' that starred Phil Collins (have not seen it, only some clips, but he actually seems quite good). Also for the movie he did his knockout arrangements of 'Always' by Irving Berlin and 'Groovy Kinda Love' originally by The Mindbenders in 1966. Who would have thought you could improve Irving Berlin? And who takes a teeny bopper tune from the '60s and turns it into a searing love song? The Four Tops! Really? One of the all time bests. He gets them to do "Loco in Acapulco"! The man definitely has soul. If you don't think Collins is a musical genius, you don't know what one is. Pick any one of his talents and that would be enough for a wonderful life, but all together.....beyond amazing. And to think what an impact he had with 'Genesis'. Brilliant! A life well lived.

@@robertdavies7540 Having now seen the movie, your point is well taken about the train robbery, but I think the critics are off base. In no way did the movie 'glorify' the robbery. It was presented in a matter of fact way. While they did not show the beating (there was conflict shown though) the robbery was not the biggest part of the movie. It was used to set up the love story that was really featured. This was no 'Bonnie and Clyde' or 'The Sting' movie. The whole issue seemed to be a big deal in the States, for some reason. That is why it did not do well at the box office. Walters was excellent and had chemistry with Collins, who I thought had surprising sex appeal. The dead pan, no irony delivery of the line by Phil 'But I do borrow from the Bank' was a highlight for me. Her response that she wanted him to get their permission was classic. In the end the robbers were jailed and the viewers knew it. No glory.

36 year old. Listening to this at my desk during work on an early Spring afternoon. God bless this era of music and those who created and performed utter classics like this one.
We had my brothers funeral on Friday 26th May 2023 and this song was played as his end credits chosen by him years ago. It was absolutely the perfect song to end with and lifted the mood in time for the wake!

I cant understand how people play music on a furneral...we just pray To Allah❤❤
@@meldanhopfer2792I guess for atheists, there's nothing to pray about. They are gone, that's the end for them, so you might as well celebrate their life.
@@nathanfisher9794 not just atheists. Many religions have music at funerals. I went to an African Christian funeral once, it was wild.
This one is for ACAPULCO indeed!!! FAST RECOVERY FOR THE FINE PEOPLE OF ACAPULCO!!!
Phil Collins is legitimately among the best songwriters of the century.
Loco in Acapulco" is a song by the Four Tops, released as a single in 1988. It was written and produced by Phil Collins
I wasn’t really that surprised, Collins’ style shows through pretty clearly.
@@tdark987 It's all part of the soundtrack to the movie Buster (starring Phil), which was a big hit in the late 80s as it tells the story of a famous British heist.
Phil Collins, the best musician of the modern era since the great classics, hands down!
The music was written by Lamont Dozier (R.I.P.) and the lyric was written by Phil Collins, the way both wrote "Two Hearts" and "Big Noise" as well. Both produced the record while Collins provided drums and backing vocals.
Was it on Cocktail with Tom Cruise the film
The late great Levi Stubbs' beautiful voice and lush orchestration...heaven! RIP Levi
Shame I never got to know him such a legend with a great voice
A baritone to remember. Great voice.
Totally agree ! no voice can compare x

very informative 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
actually NOT written by Phil Collins...he just used it for the movie...IT WAS WRITTEN BY THE 4 TOPS..
@@yeahbutseriouslytho wrong do some research
@@yeahbutseriouslytho It was written and produced by Phil Collins (who played drums on the track) and Lamont Dozier (one third of the group's legendary Motown long-time songwriting team, Holland-Dozier-Holland), for the soundtrack to the film Buster, that also starred Collins in the title role.
@@yeahbutseriouslytho YOU ARE WRONG!!!!! Phil DID write this record... along with Lamont Dozier... get your facts right.
Levi Stubbs.....the voice lives on
My prayers to the people in Acapulco.
Some of the best songs, Phil Collins ever wrote.
Maybe he did the lyrics, but the melody has the great Lamont Dozier all over it.
One of those songs that, after hearing the tune for the first time, you spend what feels like years searching for it. That's how I found this song.
I sang it to the google voice search and it found it for me.
What a great story haha
I feel that there are too few details about your car in your comment
damn sounds like a movie scene hahah

Whats ironic is that the song wasnt originally written for the Tops, yet it fit Levi’s voice perfectly. His sense of urgency is just what the song needed.

Even when time goes by, this song never gets old... It makes me happy and in a good mood every time I hear it...
Best Four Tops song ever.
PROBABLY!!!!!
But it's their last actual song
Go waaay back in order to Judge it. You gotta Go Back to their 60s stuff. That was more where it was for them. They had Hit After Hit. It was almost like them and The Temptations were at Competition with each other because They Both had Fire Jams every Year After Year during that Time when They Both were Hot.
Levi Stubbs what a legend though not singing anymore he was quite a singer before my time. His song is like Whitney song don’t have to take our clothes off. Rest In Peace
He definitely went crazy in Acapulco and I absolutely love it.
Wouldnt we all have gone loco in Acapulco back in the 80s. I did having spent a year in Belize 86-87. Spent many a long weekend there and in Cancun. Wonderful, unforgettable and safe times. Not like now unfortunately

Same!! I just heard it now Love it❤️
Over 30 years later and I still love this song.
The guy was Pure and utter excellence💯💯💯💯
Phil Collins also starred in GTA Vice City Stories where your mission as a bouncer is to save his life from gangsters as he plays 'in the air tonight'
No glory.
@@rk41gator Fair comment mate, always shot down in flames on this site for saying anything other than being a 'lovey'!
@@robertdavies7540 Hey, I love to hear opinions that are not 'lovey'. We need more. At least when based upon something other than being snarky or just plain mean.
