  • And here I am with 12 days left on my 15gb/month plan with 15gb remaining. But I have Visible+ as my cellular data provider. I can switch back and forth. (I have ATT on my work phone to round out my coverage options.) I've been using Mint Mobile since Aug or Sep 2023. Did the 3 months unlimited for $45 and their recommendation was the 15gb/month. I did my "test drive" on an old iPhone 7 for the first month and then an iPhone 13 Pro to try the 5G coverage before getting my iPhone 15 Pro. You make an excellent point about expensive to add on data. For the costs they charge, you could get a second eSIM on something like Visible for $25/month and have a different carrier and another bucket of data to draw from. For under $50/month one could have two providers and two buckets of data. If one provider has issues or an outage, you are probably covered by the other one. I only use one phone number. I'm not even sure I know my Visible+ number, LOL. I set it's ring to silent.

    • Hey! For the VPN, it’s primarily to hide your internet activity. Carriers sometimes slow connection on media sites (KZhead, Netflix, Hulu, etc.) if you use a vpn, your carrier cant put those limits in place. The recovery fees are not included in the plan although there is a way to get around it if you pay for your plan with referral credits. They are also relatively low in cost.

    • Most phones have a feature to measure how much data you use. Reset it on the first of a month and then look at it on the last day of the month. Maybe do that for two or three months to get an average. Looking at my phone, I've used 49GB since 22 September, so I'm not a power user by any stretch. That's like 12GB/month give or take. You would have to check with your phone maker (Apple or Android) to see how to reset it for your device. If on an iPhone it's Settings -> Cellular and at the bottom of the dialog you can turn on Cellular Usage Statistics as well as reset them. Near the top, you can see Cellular Data and see how much you've used for the current period, which will be since the last time you reset the stats. If you already have months and months of data, just do the math. I'm sure Android offers the same, but I cannot tell you how as I don't have an Android phone. There are probably KZhead videos for both iOS and Android.

    @tammiepulley1396@tammiepulley13963 ай бұрын
    • So GPS data is very low usage. I doubt 30hrs GPS would use 5gb of data. So I think you are more than good with the 20gb plan. If you were to exceed it, the mint mobile service after you use the allotted is enough to use GPS, maybe not a lot else but gps will work regardless

  • Communication is and interesting journey....I interpreted Mint mobile stealing data as, personal phone data that we store on our tech, not data/streaming-online usage. I just switched to Mint from Ting for the unlimited pricing. It's been about 28 hours and I've had some issues with Mint already with not receiving SMS/MMS or being shockingly slow. But I anticipated some hurdles during the transfer of service. Ting does have more areas of connectivity for me over Mint. Which is strange considering Ting and Mint both use T-Mobile towers. I also know that switching to LTE over 5G/5G auto gives me a stronger signal overall at times. Is it based upon usage surges? If thousands of Mint users are using a lot of data doesn't that effect the speed available. Does anyone know if the Mint app has daily graph or measurement showing slow and peak hour collective usage. It could be helpful in strategizing the best time, or use case to get the most out of the connectivity. Thanks for the video and I wish everyone well!

    • We've had problems with Tello. Me, my mom and sister moved from Cricket for cheaper/customizable plans. Two separate months my mom's phone disconnected from Wi-fi and accidently used up her data at home. Not Tello's fault by any means, but when her data was gone, it was GONE. Not slowed down, just no internet AT ALL without Wi-fi. The 1st time this happened they also cut off her text messaging even though its supposed to be unlimited. She could literally only make phone calls for 3 weeks. We've also had problems with calls connecting. Not dropping, just connecting. Text messaging is also very un-reliable. I'll text my sister when I get off work, asking if she wants me to pick something up for supper, with no response, because she won't get my text. Since I know this happens so often now, I'll call her. Then the call won't f*cking connect. So, I'll drive home and magically when I walk through the door, her phone goes off, finally receiving my text. The first couple of months, we didn't have any issues, but then all of these came about. I'm just sick of it, which is why I'm thinking about Mint Mobile.

Basically all apps use data to send you random notifications and harvest data. So I wouldn’t say people are getting data stolen. But not fully understanding how smart devices have to always be connected to the internet to give you all the features you enjoy. Which will use up your data.

  • Worst carrier ever. It's my 4th month with them and the service is terrible. I live in NYC and the signal is poor all the time. I keep turning plane mode on and off between 10 and 20 times a day for make it work. Contacted them twice. Told me to do this and that, but never solved the problems. I can't use zelle neither. At my bank they told me it's because of my carrier (mint). Too bad because i enjoy the branding with the green fox...

    @LoneWolfNYC@LoneWolfNYC2 ай бұрын
    • Wow I’m sorry that’s occurring. I know when you transfer carriers you sometimes have to reregister Zelle but after that it should work. I use Zelle as well with mint. I do think the service in your location does suffer. I would definitely look at changing carriers if the service is that bad.

  • if you travel overseas Mint's roaming is bullshit. i paid twenty bucks, it worked for exactly five cents (basically connected then immediately disconnected and never reconnected) putting me in some really fukced up situations, including in alaska!! (almost stranded in portugal and almost stuck at the alaska airport and had to borrow a stranger's phone). i called to get my money back and they wouldn't even credit it to my account because they said five cents got used (as if it's fuckin milk i opened and tried to return SMFH). it's been alright otherwise but i was put in such precarious situations in places i didn't know anybody at times when i seriously could've been stuck overnight, i pretty much hate em.

    @dm4954@dm495410 күн бұрын
    • Well this comment needs so much correction, so already disclosed I'm an affiliate of mint, so yeah... Secondly the plan explicitly states unlimited gives 40gb of high speed data and then slows down to 3g speeds (not 2g) and fyi, a lot of carriers reduce speed after a certain allotment. But thanks for the comment!
