Fast, Easy & Colorful 3D Scanning w/ Creality's NEW CR-Scan Otter
In this video we're going to take a look at Creality's new CR Scan Otter 3d scanner. A while back I reviewed their scan ferret which came in really handy for modeling the fairing on my custom electric motorcycle. But it was a bit tricky to maintain tracking with it and the object sizes that you can scan with it are limited. The new scan otter, however, is much easier to use, faster and with a wider range of scannable object sizes it's a lot more versatile than previous models. Your "preview" intro is really smart. This prevents the viewer from fast forwarding around. Once the fast forwarding starts, it ends with them moving on to the next video.
This scanner looks really promising and it seems like it solves most of the annoyances of my CR Scan Lizard (the cable mess with the power supply and separate cable to the PC, poor tracking with no marker support, limited focal range etc). But personally I don't trust Creality and more with 3D Scanners. My CR Scan Lizard is a nightmare. It is almost impossible to get a clean scan with it. Even with scanningspray and the included rotary table, it still loses track all the time. At this point they have so many scanners and several different scanning softwares ... I feel like they should focus more on improving what they have instead of releasing new stuff all the time.
working on what they've currently got is possibly the worst thing they could've done. Best course of action was to take the lizard/ferret/software out back to into the shed with 12ga. Then start over from scratch, clean sheet, with the lessons they've learned. You just learned the hard way the downsides of being an early adopter.
Creality seems to have abandoned the Lizard and Scan01 scanners, as there won't be any new updates for these two models. The new products CR-Scan Ferret, CR-Scan Otter, and CR-Scan Raptor all share the same software and are continuously being iterated upon. From Otter, it's evident that Creality has gained a deep understanding of user needs. In the past, scanning large objects required one scanner, small objects another, and medium-sized objects yet another. How many scanners do we really need to buy? Otter's design is excellent; with just this one purchase, it can cover various object sizes. We look forward to them fulfilling their promise and releasing a wireless scanning kit compatible with the Otter in the future.
@@joeyhuang6791lizard is still receiving updates via JMStudio of 3D maker Pro company. Lizard is a different scanner, with different use case, it's not abandoned ,just is finished, and works nicely, you just bought the wrong scanner or wasn't able ro learn to use it. Also is a different price.

What are your thoughts on the Raptor model?
What nozzle temp do you print at? What material? You should be between 205-215c nozzle if you are using PLA. Lower temps cause underextrusion problems, that you mentioned.

You need a usb extension cable. Easy to add 25 feet of range
Unfortunately not unless Creality produces it. This isn't a typical usb cable. It has usb connectors, but the cable itself is very different. Actually made up of two cables - both are larger than the standard and one is 4-5X thicker.

It's just aluminum flashing. You can find it at any building supply store.
so which is better between this and the einstar scanner
Einstar can't scan such a small object, but for large objects einstar works well. This Otter can cover small and large objects.

Einstar cannot capture the details of small objects, even in marker mode.

What is the largest object it could scan? Id love to scan furniture as big as a 2 seater couch.

I have the otter for 3 days now but i cant get any scans to optimize the point cloud... I've no way of knowing whether its the scanner's fault or the scanner software being incompatible with my PC.. or what.. the point cloud looks amazing i just cant do anything with it
If your PC specs don't match the requirements then it's your PC. If you don't have version 3.1.6 or higher, then it's the software (I'm using 3.1.22). Or it could be both. Your way of knowing is checking the device requirements in the user manual and checking what version of the software you're using.
You need a lot of ram to convert a point cloud to a mesh. I use 32gb for my Einstar scanner and this is the minimum I would recommend for a PC dealing with scan data.
