The BMP-1 is a Soviet amphibious tracked infantry fighting vehicle. BMP stands for Boyevaya Mashina Pekhoty 1 (Russian: Боевая Машина Пехоты 1; БМП-1), meaning "infantry fighting vehicle". The BMP-1 was the first mass-produced infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) of USSR. It was called the M-1967, BMP and BMP-76PB by NATO before its correct designation was known. The Soviet military leadership saw any future wars as being conducted with nuclear, chemical and biological weapons and a new design combining the properties of an armored personnel carrier (APC) and a light tank like the BMP would allow infantry to operate from the relative safety of its armoured, radiation-shielded interior in contaminated areas and to fight alongside it in uncontaminated areas. It would increase infantry squad mobility, provide fire support to them, and also be able to fight alongside main battle tanks. The BMP-1 was first tested in combat in the 1973 Yom Kippur War, where it was used by Egyptian and Syrian forces. Based on lessons learned from this conflict, and early experiences in the Soviet War in Afghanistan, a version with improved fighting qualities was developed, called the BMP-2. It was accepted into service in August 1980.
БМП-1 (от Боевая Машина Пехоты) - первая советская серийная боевая бронированная плавающая гусеничная машина, предназначенная для транспортировки личного состава к переднему краю, повышения его мобильности, вооружённости и защищённости на поле боя и совместных действий станками в бою. Была разработана в ГСКБ-2 (главном специальном конструкторском бюро 2) на Челябинском тракторном заводе им. В. И. Ленина для замены БТР-50П. Боевая машина принята на вооружение Советской Армии ВС СССР в 1966 году. Серийно выпускалась с 1966 по 1979 год. Впоследствии чертежи и прочая документация были переданы на Курганский машиностроительный завод, где впоследствии выпускалась и БМП-2.

@Babd it might stop bullets when the fuel tanks are around the vehicle, but when that big fuel tank is used as a stool for troops, and it gets shoot at, which you can expect because the enemy will try to hunt down the guy with the anti-tank rocket, everyone inside is getting a free fuel bath. Actually, in many games BMPs are a main target, all because of that rocket. That is not bad, simply not ideal. My point is that just like the Bradly, no personnel transport should have the role of an attack vehicle, because it wont be good at either. it will have a poor carrying capacity and its armor as a fighting vehicle will be terrible to favor mobility (you know, its one job). Transports don't need armor to begin with. It compromises the success of the machine, a Sherman, that's what we end up with. But I am all down for seeing dictators buy it because any good helicopter, tow missile, or basic armor piercing gun can safely take it down along with whoever is inside. Im just saying
