Here is the simplest iteration of the Monkey's Fist Impact Tool. This can be used as a keychain, but if you're worried about the ignition of your car, perhaps use a smaller, lighter ball bearing.

With the somewhat overzealous UK laws I just made one using a 30mm cork ball instead of a steel ball. Had to make six passes instead of five because of the larger circumference of the cork ball. Turned out beautifully. Thank you for posting this this jig-less instruction!
*>Oi you gotta loiscence for that steel ball m8?*
It’s funny if the laws define “steel ball” and one were to use a tungsten ball😂.
@@lordinquisitor6651 that kind of sphere could cure your mortality a man who wields tungsten can bear any object less dense
You can use a Jadeite(Jade) ball or an Aventurine ball and it will look like an accessory.
Still comes under "manrikigusari" (weight attached to rope) under UK law lol. Although i highly doubt you would actually get convicted for it.
Important note for anyone intending to use one of these as a weapon….. Most all state statutes classify a “slung shot” as a prohibited weapon to carry. A monkey’s fist is exactly what is meant by a slung shot… A “shot” in this case originally meant a naval round of “canister” or “grapeshot” meant to be fired from cannon. They were commonly made up and used by sailors… As weapons.
What's the difference between slung shot and sling shot, please?
@@Amira_Phoenix A “slung shot”, which is what this video illustrates, is a weight tied up in a “monkey’s fist” knot and used as a cosh or blackjack. A “slingshot” is the thing beloved by schoolboys (and some of us adults) which uses rubber bands to propel a projectile of some kind.
Slung shots are illegal but assault rifles are not. Makes sense.
A few states have slungshot listed as a felony to carry them concealed. Notably, California, Massachusetts, Michigan and Oklahoma. A few have it listed as misdemeanor if carried concealed. I don’t know of any state that has the slungshot listed as illegal when carried openly.
The laws have recently changed. These are legal in most states
First time i saw monkey fist was on ship ,a small rope is attached to it and you throw it overboard ,a guy catches it and pulls a big rope that is attached to a small one . Its used that way because it would be clumsy to throw big rope especially if it has steel cable in it.
The small rope is called the Heaving line and the big one is called the Mooring Rope, and the entire process is called Mooring.
I did it, it came out great. Thanks for another tutorial video!
I'm going to do this right now. Looking for a "hobby" to keep my hands busy while talking to my wife (she knits, why can't I weave) Thanks!
💙
Sweet. The Lock Master used to throw a monkey fist down to us so he could retrieve our tow boat deck lines when we’d make a lock on the Mississippi River. Now I’ll know how to make a monkey fist.
that last knot is a hang-man's knot 🤣
Ive heard they were commonly thrown at a person's face really hard for the initial attack, and the retracted back to be swung or thrown again. Flicked out fast it could catch a person off guard even when out of range of fists or a knife.
I've not used one. But i imagine that it would be sung like a cosh or mace ball and chain flail
i made these as souvenirs for best sailors of my sailng class camp. they were very happy.
I just learned of this device about 10 minutes ago--this video is very cool. I looked at some knot sights, but you really make it look simple.
Thì cách làm của nó như này rồi làm đơn guatn cái gì
That was so intricate. I loved it. Thank you. For sharing. Yeah make sure to stay safe.
Love this tutorial ! TY @ Weavers 🙂
Great video bud keep em coming. Stay safe and be well brother. Strength and Honor... 👊 🤙 🍻
Very cool! Always amazed to watch your vids.
I have the 7 Bight 1 1/2 version of your Easy Assist Mandrel, How do I set up the pins to do a 5 Bight? Or do I need to buy the proper smaller Mandrel?
Yes, thats a hangman's knot. Its a knot that was basically designed for sharp impacts in mind as the coil of the cord acts like an innate compression spring.
Thankyou for doing this sir.
hey can i please make a request for a bowling ball sledgehammer type impact tool? It would require thick braids that im unfamiliar with tying.
what would you say the practicality is of this knot for breaking concrete in a lighter, smaller, and cheaper package than a sledge?
Thanks for this video. Very useful to have one without tools. I followed this to make my first Monkey’s First, a dog toy, using a 9-ball sized rubber ball, and 11 wraps. Took me quite a few goes, and my fingers ached, but finally got there.
Glad it was helpful!
I just carry small solid flashlight with paracord loop as edc. Works same and fully legal.
What thickness of chord would you reccomend I've seen different sizes in mm
After 3 tries I can do it without watching the vid now, thank you. Although it is harder ( maybe easier with a jig) I think doing 6 passes makes bearing more secure in there
I think it depends on how thick the rope is.
Great video very helpful👍
Awesome video
One can use a scented wooden ball
Thank you for this amazing tutorial
Outstanding job explaining how to do this!
Thank you for the kind words, I really appreciate it!
Could you put a steel cable, wrapped in paracord in as a handle on it? I think that`s what the salors used when they were on land. Although i think it was from the 1800s or earlyer so they probably used something else.
I have a 1.18 inch ball bearing/pinball ball. How long should the cord be if I want to use it for this?
Very nice 👌 👍 👏 😀
I wasn’t bothered to wait for a steal ball to arrive so I just used a rock it looks super dodgy and I don’t fully trust it not falling out or cracking but its good so far from my tests
Where do you get the ball bearings?
Im going to search your videos for pulling slack in the monkey fist , its my most challenging issue
It's this one here: kzhead.info/sun/ortqYr2gqWV_q6M/bejne.html
Very well explained 🎉❤
I’m going to make one with a golf ball inside. It’s the perfect keychain size that fits in your pocket.
I'm using 7ft 4 inches of 550 cord and I don't have anywhere near the amount I need leftover to make the handle you did? I'm using a one inch steel ball.
Another variation on the sailors lifesaver/multitool. Well done. Thanks. BTW, I like the production value of your videos.
sailor?
@@NikosKatsikanis Are you referring to the sailors lifesaver? Also known as a blackjack, sap and cosh to name a few.
@@nauticalknotcraft no idea what these are
@@NikosKatsikanis They were/are used as weapons. Depending on the weight and density they can break bone and be deadly. I know it's not a pleasant subject but it is part of the history. They could save ones life, hence the name lifesaver. There are many different types, styles and materials.

Do you know of a good place to get those ball bearings? I'm having a hard time finding them
Probably Amazon or Ebay or even at a hardware store
Have you tried a farm fleet store?
@@JizzyPalms I don't live in the US so no
Ring up some auto mechanics, maybe a truck mechanic will have some old ones.
Home depot carriez them nesr the screws and bolts and stuff
I made a monkey fist with 1,3 inch lead ball atached to 4mm steel wire from car hand brake sistem.the whole thing is almost 1m long and it make very big dent in plywood board..
Success. Of course I had to do the tightening forever because I lost my place.. Started over lol.
What kind of lighter is the one you use?
How many ft of paracord do I need
Wonderful, so creative. I am new in paracord art. 1. How many type of paracord 550 ( 4mm )? Or they just one type with different brand? 2. What brand of this paracord 550 that you are using for this monkey fist? 3. And also what brand of 550 that you normally string your Begleri? Thank you.
Hay there dope as hell do you sell them ??
Is there a good way to "paracord" my powerbank?
Is it illegal in any state to have one. I read it’s a weapon and illegal in some states.
Yes they are illegal in some states including mine.
Any state somehow goes to some states
@@jmeib Carrying or attempting to use a slungshot is a felony in the states of California, Oklahoma, Massachusetts, and Michigan. It is a gross misdemeanor in the states of Nevada and Washington. In Minnesota, it can be either a misdemeanor or a felony, depending upon the circumstances. I expect this is not the exhaustive list. I sure wouldn't get caught with one in NY either.
@@jmeib If you reread the OP question you will find he simply miss punctuated and was not implying it was illegal in all states SMH.
@@ADKwarriors yeah ik, just realized, my bad
I hate how you made it look so simple... because now I have to try it. 😉
It was w while back, and I don’t remember who posted it, but there is a way to make a monkey’s fist where both cords come out at the same spot
Would it be considered a weapon if you use a pétanque ball? 😁
Nice video ....nice intro .....my Nickname is the Hammer 😂
How many millimeters is this iron ball?
I made one with 2 steel rings
Did you know this is a forbidden weapon in germany? As published in the Federal Gazette, the Weapons Act prohibits the possession and carrying of a monkey fist weighted with metal balls, for example, as it is classified as a manslaughter weapon by the Federal Criminal Police Office.
Can you still buy Stilletto Knives?...we used to buy them in Frankfurt in the eighties....switchblades too i believe were ok and verry big firecrackers for New Years Eve. We soldiers would line the street in Sachsehausen and throw them at each other, just for perverted fun.
You make the finger holding technique look so easy. When I do it, it's a total disaster. And the jig I have is utterly useless.
Tutorial for few playing tricks
👌🏼🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️

After a couple minutes of 'Google' research, I found that most ball bearings are “case hardened”, allowing the core to retain elasticity under load. Using a pair of vise-grips or a vice, you could grind a small flat spot onto the ball bearing. Clamping it into a drill press vice, you could (slowly) drill a 3/16" hole through the ball bearing - and then drill a 1/4" - 5/16" hole about halfway though. Your impact tool could then be simply suspended by a single length of paracord - thereby eliminating the need to wrap the ball in a monkey-fist knot... When you're done, it would be kinda like 'half' a set of Begleri beads - and you would be able to strike much harder surfaces with the bare steel ball without the worry of damaging the Monkey Fist. Wondering (also) if the 1" bearing was heated to red hot with a propane torch and then allowed to air-cool, it would then be 'annealed' - making it softer and easier to drill through. Then, after all the drilling, de-burring and chamfering were completed, it could then be heated to red-hot again and quickly quenched to again harden the steel. The different colors you could obtain on the ball itself from heating and quenching might make a good contrast of colors with different colors of paracord. You could also use larger diameter paracord for the lanyard. I also wonder - although not recommended because of safety issues - You could actually make them into an abnormally large set of Begleri Beads and play with them like vintage 'Clackers'. Anyway - Those are 'my' BB-In-A-Can runaway thoughts after watching this recent content - Thank you, for sharing! 👊
Jesus!! That is not the point at all. It's about creativity and art, learning to weave the cord into a traditional knot. Threading a steel ball on a bit of cord is pointless, ugly looking in comparison, bound to snap the cord and your theory of annealing and then heat treating is quite puerile. Quickly quenching makes it fragile! Try searching for martensite. More learning, less weed.
@@elmodiddly The point is that the TITLE describes this as an IMPACT tool. And although I forgot to mention sticking it in an oven afterwards for a couple of hours, the heat-treating would increase the ball bearing resiliency to HARD impacts. Wasn't a requirement, just a suggestion. The ONLY reason to wrap a ball bearing in a monkey-fist knot was so you could attach a cord to it, but I offered an alternative means. So please refrain from using the Lord's name in vain on a Sunday and pop a Midol or two.
wow
I'll make those. I just ordered the bearings and paracord .
This might sound random but we have the exact same lighter.
Also illegal in most of the U.S. The "monkey fist" is a form of weapon you can serve time for using.
According to Wikipedia it's only illegal in the following states: California, Oklahoma, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, Washington, Minnesota, New Hampshire, and Vermont. If you find documentation that states otherwise though, please let me know as I would be interested.
@@TheWeaversofEternity Getting your legal advice from Wikipedia is the equivalent of asking a rock to do your taxes. It is completely illegal in most of those states, in over half of the ones you mentioned it's a felony to even carry it, and in all 50 states it is considered assault with a deadly weapon, even if you used it in self-defense and are allowed to "possess" it.
@@defectiveparts8604 haha, true about Wikipedia, but I was only consulting it for general information, not legal advice. I'm not disagreeing with you, but do you have a link to reputable legal document or webpage or source that clearly states where the monkey's fist is legal and where it is not? I've always struggled to find a straight answer about the legality of the monkey's fist in the USA. And for all I know... you could be a rock 😂 EDIT: Also the States I mentioned were the ones that are ILLEGAL, your statement leads me to believe you read that as LEGAL.
@@TheWeaversofEternity 😮💨 Probably shouldn't sell something you're unsure on the legality of, but as a geologist I do rock, thanks for the compliment. Unfortunately in comparison to your daily habits, I do read, and I am not in the habit of repeating my perfectly coherent responses to illiterate trolls.
@@defectiveparts8604 I think we got off on the wrong foot. I am not disagreeing with you at all nor did I intend to offend you. I was just making a joke playing off your "rock" comment. All I was simply asking was some cited information. Your response is more than coherent and I fully understand it. However, if you aren't providing or linking me to a reputable information source, you're basically telling me to take your word for it. That's all I meant, no trolling or sarcasm intended.
