In July 2023 I set off for a 25-days solo bikepacking adventure into the vast and wild Mongolian steppe.
Mongolia is a place that, to me, has always been a land of adventure. Adventure because when you are there, alone, in the middle of the steppe, makes you fell really exposed, insignificant, vulnerable. At the same time gives you absolute freedom, makes you feel the master of your fate, the captain of your soul.
In the Mongolian steppe there are no marked roads, only tracks of those who have passed, if someone has passed, before you. I believe this makes the steppe, like nowhere else on this planet, the perfect place to question oneself and to search and chase one's own trajectory in the steppe, like in life.

ABOUT
I am Giacomo, a 27-years-old aerospace engineer from Italy. I am not an athlete, nor a photographer. I am just a sensitive solo cyclist and enthusiast explorer, curious about discovering different cultures and keen on travelling into wild nature.
In 2021, before starting to work, I went solo bikepacking through the wildest parts of Iceland for 50 days. That is how my passion for bikepacking started. In 2022 I spent 3 months in Nepal. In these months I had been trekking and cycling through very remote areas which often remain untouched by tourists.In 2023 I went solo bikepacking the wild and vast Mongolian Steppe for 25 days.

    • Thank you, for the compliment, I really appreciate it! I tried to put in the video all the emotions I lived first-hand in the trip. And maybe that is what in the end gave to the video this shape. I am happy if you can feel my emotions in living the experience and editing the video 🤩

    @user-yf5ct7zh7m@user-yf5ct7zh7m5 ай бұрын
    • Thank you very much! The landscapes can be really amazing, but the encounters with the people are really what I look for when I travel by bike. People see you alone with the bike, in the middle of nowhere, and they try to help, to communicate with you in any possible way. I think that by travelling this way you can really touch a very ancient human istinct, that we have maybe almost forgotten: helping others. Thank you for the kind words, I will try to keep it up.

    @bikepackingg@bikepackingg6 ай бұрын
    • Thank you for the feedback! Yes, a fat bike would have helped me a lot. But that was the bike I had, so I just went with that. I spent so many days worrying about my skinny tires before the trip. At times I had to push, but I always got where I wanted. If you have wide tyres definitely go with them :)

  • Ho girato in bicicletta la parte più occidentale della Mongolia. Esperienza unica. Per i mongoliani della steppe andare in bicicletta è una follia: perché pedalare quando la natura ti regala il cavallo?

    @weeringjohnny@weeringjohnny6 ай бұрын
    • Hai ragione, anche per me la Mongolia in bicicletta è stata un’esperienza incredibile. Non capiscono proprio perché qualcuno dovrebbe avventurarsi con la bici nel mezzo del nulla. Anche se devo dire che oltre al cavallo mi sembra che si siano abituati bene anche alla moto 😀
