This is about the battle for the city of Kovel in 1944. At the beginning of March, the Red Army launched a new offensive in the Right-Bank Ukraine against the German forces of Army Group "South". Exhausted and hardly combat-ready by this time the Waffen SS division "Wiking" was ordered to defend the city of Kovel ...

  • My grandpa fought in the 16th infantry division first, later split where he was part of the 16th panzer division and in '44 till war end part of the 116th panzer div. Called windhund. The stories he told where crazy, ever since the oroginal 16th inf. Division was splitin 2 they where always outnumbered by at least 4/1 up to 25/1. Orders comming from Berlin where crazy, hitler was all but a military Genius, he was a crazy lunatic fool, those poor mens fighting for him i still get goosebumps if i think about the stories he told me.

  • These firsthand accounts are so valuable. The fate of German soldiers in 1944 is tragic. Not because Germany didn't need to be defeated, but because so much valour and bravery was wasted in the vision of such evil folly.

Literally all things talked about by these people fighting for evil folly if you read their books. They opposed freedom. The one world order viciously opposed it and thanks to them we got international banks that let us live comfortably, entertained by circus and docile to the strongest and fittest.

  • I knew a Panther Platoon leader in Wiking...they were sent by train in a snow storm to reinforce and relieve the line ...as the train neared Kowel, the order was given " austeigen"! They literally drove the Panthers directly from the flatbed cars to fight the Russians. His platoon destroyed over 45 armored vehicles in less than 4 hours and he was awarded the German Cross in Gold and the Pazerkampfabzeichen mit " 25" einsätzen.

  • Interesting and informative. Excellent photography job enabling viewers to better understand what/whom the orator was describing. Special thanks to veteran soldiers/civilians sharing personal information/combat experiences. Enabling viewers to better understand what the orator was describing. Thru diaries/memoirs enabling historians to replicate those stories. For future generations to better appreciate. The hard ships/sacrifices suffered by the military forces. Fighting/perishing/surviving knowing certain death/debilitating wounds were often times possible. Yet still advanced forward regardless of the consequences. True grit style determination to succeed. By this stage of the war German forces would have been better off. Retreating closer to Germany 90 days before Stalingrad was encircled. Of course disillusioned leader ship in Berlin wouldn't hear of a logical tactical retreat.

  • I really enjoyed this video. The conditions were terrible, as we saw sometimes visibility was only 200m, countless people died for nothing. However there is a mistake, 9th Panzer Grenadier Regiment was Germania, NOT Deutschland. 3rd SS Panzer Grenadier Regiment Deutschland was part of Panzer Division Das Reich. Also at 9.17 the officers name was Karl Nicolussi Leck, not Lesk.. Who incidently after the war returned to his native Tyrol and became a major operative in the Odessa escape line helping fugitives escape to south America. Great video.

    • Was an immensely interesting period of human history. Very important to study regardless of country and to understand both the measure of human endurance/suffering and mankind’s potential for brutality. So many of these stories are absolutely terrifying and it’s impossible to imagine myself going through some of the things that soldiers of this time on all sides did. Important to understand so that we do not repeat the horrible things we have shown ourselves capable of doing to each other. Additionally interesting when thinking of how this period shaped so much of what the modern world became. Fascinating but definitely not fascist to have an interest in the topic
