Chasing after that dollar like it'll slow down my hurry
Settle all my worries when I get it in my wallet
Quit dippin' long enough to own a pair of jeans
That don't have a ring in the back left pocket
Laughing at myself, admitting when I'm wrong
That's what this good ol' boy's gonna go out workin' on
[Chorus:]
Workin' on coming to Jesus, kicking the bottle,
Wrestling with our roots,
Trying to turn off Mama's tears, and fill our Daddy's boots
Shutting off our pride, fixing bridges we burned, learning how to live and learn
Keeping our demons down and our trucks up and running
Loving them angels sitting pretty in the middle of 'em
Fighting with the man in the mirror til we gone
Yeah, that's what all us good ol' boys gonna go out workin' on
Gonna go out workin' on
Giving more forgiveness, picking battles worth choosing
Little less cussin' and losin' my temper and my tools
Dialin' down my restless, outgrowing my reckless
And my reputation for breaking hearts and rules
Realizin' what I got what I got before it's gone
That's what this good ol boy's gonna go out
Workin' on...
Fighting with the man in the mirror til' we gone
Yeah, that's what all us good ol' boys gonna go out workin' on
Gonna go out workin' on
Owning up to my weakness, keeping it humble but strong
Doin' the best I can with this flesh and bone

    • I was just given some good news today and wanted to celebrate with some good music and seen this comment. I Google it and realized he had a heart attack. I hope he gets back to his old self and takes it easy. Colt Ford has been a very big inspirational figure since day 1 of me listening to him many years ago! My family and I will be praying for you!

  • I'm not a country guy, not a religious man, not a veteran, but this song, without a doubt, appeals to me. Had a long battle with drugs and more than happy to say I'm going to be 4 years clean this summer. My heart and hope go out to anyone struggling with anything. You can beat it and it's never too late to start rebuilding

You gave me a home to grow up in that was safe and I wanna be just like ya'll out of highschool. Serving to give children a safe home. Thank you all very much, from the bottom of my heart. My family served and I hope I can too one day.

  • I'm not a veteran, just a man fighting his own personal war for his soul, but this song is the story of my last 3 years put into a song. Thank you Colt Ford, serves as a reminder we can all do better. That we can change. That sometimes a dad gets kicked around not because he was an asshole but because he still needed to become the man his children deserve. And that is what I'm gonna go out working on

  • So I never associated this song with the video until now. But, I’ve felt this song on an immensely deep level. Struggling with loss, life, and alcoholism this song has had a huge impact on my life in the last couple weeks. I’ve been sober since April of 2018 but I always struggle during the holidays. This song came by in the perfect time. The way I was raised, men don’t cry. I shed a couple tears when I listened to this the first time. So if you’re struggling, don’t quit. Even if you’re failing. All you have to do is not give up.

    • The Term Veteran is Reserved for Our Men and Women that Fight for our Rights and Freedoms Everyday. So think about it next time you decide to loosely use that term. That should also be considered Stolen Valor in my opinion. All Law Enforcement, Firefighters, EMS workers have all fringed on the status we earned, taking our discounts, using our holidays for themselves. It needs to Come to an end. Find your OWN Terms and holidays to take over.

Being a non-combat Marine veteran but having friends who died during and after coming home from these endless wars this song actually made this old man tear up a little. I don’t do social media but I keep in touch with as many of my brothers as possible. Just to remind them that if they need a hand I’ll be in my car and I’ll drive across the country to reach out that hand. Thank you.

Luckily though diagnosed with ptsd I have made it through. I battled with alcohol long ago and found comfort and a wonderful woman i now call my wife. We are expecting our first child and can not be happier. I have my good days and my bad days still. I really find peace while in the woods hunting and or out fishing. I encourage anyone dealing with ptsd to find something constructive to do and concentrate on it. Again thank you so much for this song.

I hope everyone thats experienced traumas especially our soldiers that have served can find it within themselves to have faith... thankyou for this song

  • I did 5 deployments in the Army, 3 for OIF, 2 for OEF and was medically retired following my last deployment in 2012... I was an absolute basket case when i got home. I was not AT ALL prepared to see and do the shit i did. Addiction became me, it almost destroyed my family many times. Through remarkably hard work, i have returned to a productive member of society. Its the hardest thing that i continue to do on a daily basis. Guilt, Fear and a lack of love for ones self make for a hell of a fight... forgive yourself, forgive those who have passed transgression on you... we need you back in the fight Bubba... once youre done taking a knee, you come back over here with us and reengage with the fight for life! I believe in you!!!

  • Thank God I was able to kick smoking before getting out of the service, now if only i could kick beer. I came home and dropped everything to gel my dad on the farm, my wife almost left with our baby, now he's selling of the land and cattle yards and I can't even bother him to help my family move a couple miles down the road. God I'm hurting.
