  • What Oakley said was low rent. Ewing didn't hold them back, the rest of the Knicks squad from the 90's did that to him. He had no one around him. If Starks is your second scoring option, you're in trouble. They could have won in '94. Starks went 2-18 from the floor. I'll never understand how Riley kept him in. And, how Starks kept chucking it up. There was the 90's Knicks problems in a nutshell. It wasn't Patrick. Oakley should be ashamed of himself.

    • @@pzooka with Ewing at center and Riley as coach the Knicks put up seasons of 51, 60, 57, and 55 wins. The type of cherry picking in that video ignores the big picture. You're telling me they would have put up those win totals without Ewing?? I'm just not buying it, no matter what stats this video cooks up. They were a contending team with Ewing, they would not have been without him. They had no real consistent scorers or elite talent other than him. That's why they could never get past the Bulls and Jordan...who did have Pippen. No one could at that time. They also lost to the Rockets for that reason. Also, to highlight the 98-99 season is simply not fair to Ewing. He was at the end of the line, even if he was scoring 17 ppg. I remember watching them and noticing that his skills had diminished, even before the injury. They also had Sprewell and LJ, two quality players that they never had during Ewing's prime. By that time, Ewing was holding them back. I can't buy that during his prime. He gets a bad rap, and always did.

And nobody was stopping Oak from hustling downcourt to convert in transition after Patrick's 3 block & 1 steal each game (during Patrick's 7 best seasons).

Jordan had Paxon, Kerr, Armstrong,Harper, and Tony K to name a few. Hakeem had Jet, Casell, Vernon Maxwell, Horrey plus others to pass to and they all hit really big shots for the team Patrick had super inconsisten Starks, Rory Sparrow and Derrick Harper.FAR lesser players than the help the other guys had. Oakley 5 pts a game should just shut up.He wasn't a differnce maker either. He couldnt hold Rodman's jock!

  • Patrick LED the Knicks for years-- the only consistent superstar on a team full of thugs, journeymen, and street-baller types. Teams would bang right back against Ewing and he still held up and consistently delivered. His supporting cast was goons like Oakley and Anthony Mason and guards who were either inconsistent like Greg Anthony or huge choke artists like John Starks. He carried a bunch of bums-- in the largest market and under the greatest media scrutiny-- and led them to the playoffs for 13 years in a row. And if it hadn't been for Jordan he would have won at least one title.

  • So underrated it’s sad, I’m a New Yorker and I watched so many Knick games w Pat in the middle and just to set the record straight New Yorkers loved Patrick. Sure you had detractors who are never happy but the majority of fans loved his effort every night! People also forget he was the center piece of the Knicks, the pressure in New York in unreal and unmatched and I believe ppl should factor that in when making comparisons to anyone including Hakeem. Yes Hakeem had more moves and had tons of blocks but he played in a small market with less then half the pressure and was actually a small center which made him quicker then most. Patrick carried so many Knick teams and battled the NBA’s best including making it tuff on MJ the goat. He’s the man, thanks Pat we love ya

Yes, he missed great layups, but still did all-star teams in a strong era, and he wasn't even a scorer, buthe had to do do that, if he should have a good scorer on that team in the late '90s maybe he gets some chips. Sorry, but the whole NY team that time was almost the same like nowadays, just they had a Patrick Ewing. No team building - no chips.
